Gobata's appearance did change it was just very minimal. I personally believe that the reason that Gobata seems to be pretty strong and has a knack for learning new techniques is because most of the power of his name transformation went towards more internal changes.

The reason you were sick yesterday was due to shion’s tea. But like Gobta, you now have a poison immunity.
I think the reason Rimuru underestimates people is because of his time as a human on Earth. His animal instincts are dulled. If he was more attuned to them, then he’d be able to guess the strength of people who are weaker than him. As it stands, the only time he can accurately gauge an enemy is when his instincts are screaming at him. As of now in the show, that’s only happened when he met Gazelle the dwarf king. Even Ifrit didn’t set his alarms ringing like Gazelle did, so that should tell us how many beings are below his radar as far as strength assessment. He needs to rely on Great Sage to understand the strength of his subordinates.

Lets not forget that even though Gobta looks no different that he did as a normal unnamed goblin it seems he might actually be rather tough. Not only did he learn Remaru's kick after experiencing/seeing it only once, but he took the kick rather well. Normally you'd expect a kick like that from Remaru would probably flat out KO someone.

I know it seems cliché but, looking deeper into it, it makes sense that it was Shuna and Shino's reaction to Rimuru. They both wanted to be his primary handmaiden, using archaic terms.
Take note, they came from an ogre society greatly influenced by an Otherworlder samurai so things like ranking and favors and being of use to the powerful noble lord is a big thing, especially as women with shots at high standing in the village.
Rimuru gave them a new place to call home, offered them a chance for revenge, and also gave them power. In addition to that, he was nothing but a generous and amazing character as a ruler. They really like him, like fan girls working for their idols in an organization, so it's a love borne of loyalty and gratitude instead of lovestruck harem reaction.

Rimuru's VA Miho Okasaki started working in 2017 in bit parts. Her first starring role was in 2018 with Ongaku Shōjo. I believe Slime is only her second starring role. She's doing a terrific job IMHO.
there’s really only one thing that’s saving Gabiru as a character to me, and that’s the scene last episode showing that he does respect his father and can think responsibly, but he’s too gullible and believes the hype of his crew. Hopefully he does grow into more of that character because we’ve avoided the ‘idiot’ trope so far and this show has by far benefitted from it.

Gabiru, to be fair, he did recruit 7,000 goblins doing what he did to other villages. He just didn’t understand that he was dealing with people that were on even or greater terms than he was on.
Rimuru is strong cause he was born from the thick atmosphere of magicules veldora emitted. Veldora helps Rimuru name his followers, that’s it. Veldora sees Rimuru as equals friends.
Also, rimuru absorbed a ton of magical enemies, ores and plants to he has a high concentration of magicules in his stomach which he can use

OK here's a little story of Gobta before he met rimuru( this is what I remembered from a short story in the LN)
Little Gobta and the village is struck with no food soooooo The goblin leader sent gobta in a journey to the Dwarven Kingdom... Ok so, Little gobta has to travel like 3 months without transportation, food, and is weakened. Heck, Gobta almost died in the process of his journey but to Gobta's surprise he met a party of adventurers in a caravan ( While lying face down in the middle of the forest) and is verrrrrrrrrryyy lucky to have not died but here's the twist(Just making this from memory so I dont know the details that well) Gobta traveled 1!! and a HALF MONTHS!! without food,shelter or anything to survive ( Forgot to put that Gobta DID got some supplies from the village but only a little) He's fucking amazing, while in the caravan a Female adventurer taught Gobta some.... Stuff( I Didn't what stuff she said to gobta) Whilst Gobta leering the female adventurer's boobies, As the story goes..... (I didn't know the rest at what happened so... Yep) ....As Gobta finally finished His errands, the adventurers was generous enough to give Gobta a ride back home, BUT while the Gobta and gang were escorting Gobta home... An ENEMY has appeared(Forgot what the enemy was...) The adventurers went into action to protect gobta BUT the enemy was stronger than expected to be!!. The adventurers wounded, The Enemy moved closer to the female adventurer, As it gets closer... and closer... A WILD GOBTA APPEARED!!! Gobta grabbed a weapon from somewhere and sneak attacke'd the enemy from behind, The enemy is defeated and Gobta won, The female adventurer looked at gobta's Heroic back and fell in love with him. After the the fight gobta said to the adventurer's that he will go alone on the journey of going home, The adventurer's, shocked, but the female adventurer from earlier said it was ok for gobta to go alone now as he is a man now, and gobta thanked the adventurer's and went home...
As gobta's back fade away from the distance...

One of my favourite moments was when Ben asked if he could kill Gabiru, and Rimuru is like 'Yeah, go ahead' and immediately backpedals when he realized what he just said. Given how annoying that lizard was, it actually seems like a slip-up a lot of people would make in the situation. Little moments like that somehow make this series more fun and relatable.

If we're going by RPG tropes, Gobita is probably like the Jester from Dragon quest, starts off as a joke, but has the potential to be one of the most powerful characters in the game if leveled enough.

Read Gobtas adventure in the light novel. In that story he defeats a B class monster by himself two times, killing it the seond time. He is not an ordinary goblin, and remember he did not grow once named so it could very well be that he, like the ogres, is presenting a superior form where his size is small but strength great.

When it comes to how the lizardmen presented themselves to the faction mentioned, it is understandable in their case as initially they thought the town or settlement was occupied by only goblins, albeit its still not the best way to present yourself, its still pretty appropriate to the situation. Just imagine an even more grandiose entrance that isn't meant to be whacky, if any of you know Machiavelli's the prince then the action would be perfect if it were executed to give off that impression. Like I'm sure the lizardmen were TRYING to give off that impression, they were just terrible at it.
To any of you who don't know Machavelli, the premise is simple. You're a good ruler if you are both feared and loved. I digress it also teaches you that the ends justifies the means.
goblins are F rank, while lizardmen are C rank monsters after all. thus youre right, gabiru cockyness makes perfect sense.

to be honest, i was a little disappointed that in the anime, rimuro did not recognized gobta's kick....it was great in manga to see rimuro acknowledging gobta's abilities.
Well Gobta is extremely adaptive. Slime lord has only left him for dead once, and almost killed him once... Also think he's a Goblin dark mage, quite rare, so he's a very rare monster and quite powerful.
He is the most powerful goblin.
Gobta is one of four Heavenly Kings and representating Hobgoblin in Tempest Tournament (who got lose against Diablo n Shion)
