So, one big thing I think you're missing is that Karn the Great Creator is a win condition himself unless there's a Moat in play. Yeah the +1 can be used to blow up lands and 0 mana rocks, but I'm pretty sure you just forget it can be ticked up on, idk, a spare crucible or smokestack or something, and bash in for 3 or 4. It's not particularly "exciting", but Karn is an actual win condition outside of simply making your opponent miserable.
Karn’s Sylex doesn’t stop Ancient Tomb for a more obvious reason: Ancient Tomb doesn’t cost life to activate but instead deals you damage when you activate it. That’s why The One Ring and similar effects protect you from your own Tomb but don’t stop you losing life you paid for fetches and the like. Also Void Mirror only stops Unlicensed Hearse sometimes because it cares about coloured mana being used to cast it, not about whether a spell has coloured mana in its cost.
also ancient tomb doesn't pay life to activate it's ability, it does 2 damage as part of the effect. this is different from paying life to activate an ability.
Void Mirror is cool, the effect is potentially very powerful but so narrow that it's tough to find a good application. But when you do, you just feel very smart. I like sideboard cards like that.
Okay but why Elspeth, Knight Errant? Specifically in comparison to Archangel Elspeth. The tokens are worse (outside of humility anyway) and the buff ability costs more and wears off. I get that the emblem works with Armageddon and Tabernacle, but that's magical christmas land. Who's going to let you play a 4 mana card and deal no damage to it for 4+ turns. In comparison, Archangel's Ult is much closer, only 2 turns. And while it's a worse ability overall, bringing back your lock pieces can be pretty good.
And we've come full circle. This is almost identical to my homebrew from 2008... We didn't have Void Mirror or Karn yet, but I played Bitterblossom and Vindicate with Helm combo in the sideboard. Edit: I think I played Dark Ritual, but I can't remember anymore.
Is there a viable version of this that goes for Blue instead of White? Armageddon never seemed to be fast enough, and being to play at instant speed seems like it'd be really helpful for the deck.
There actually was a girl who was hospitalized because she drank too much boba tea and the pearls were blocking her digestive tract, so, just make sure to chew them
Aside from being am alternative win condition, it actually has some sinergies, it pairs well with humility against creatures, it also can win through moat cause pumps your soldiers and gives flying.
Do you only have 5 cards that can actually win? the Karns and the Elspeth? so if those get answered the deck just can't win and potentially deck itself?
While I agree that the lack of wincons is bad, and that it would really suck if your opponent made you play out all of the games, this deck has zero draw and the only deck thinning is flagstones. If the opponent is doing anything they’re decking first (and if not, Elspeth/Karn just kill them).
@@masonwhitehead7203 Yeah, I just know if they figured it out, you could mulligan down to have more cards remaining in your library. Just hold on to force of wills and negations for the 5 threats.
Void mirror was great, worst case it was force bait, best case it was game ending, maybe replace smokestacks with Path of exile, maybe just a dream to path a creature then Armageddon the land.
@@robinsvensen1324The problem is that prison decks like this can't usually play removal because they're built on shoving stumbling blocks in front of efficient spells, which most playable removal is. You can't be a chalice on 1 deck with Swords to Plowshares, not that STP lines up especially well against Bowmasters. Removal saves you when you're playing from behind and you're already losing if you fall behind with a prison deck.
i think a deck like this really misses a win con. maybe Sarevok's Tome(s) should be in the main board instead of void mirror. or maybe even Seasoned Dungeoneer instead of humility. maybe urza's saga? playing against this deck just looks miserable but since it's doesn't have win con, appart from kary for tome -> win with initiative, it looks miserable to play too. with so many artifacts in the main deck, i am a bit supprised to not see 1-2 copies of mox opal
Smoke stack is sadly bad this day so I don't think it's a good deck but let's see Also once again the guy always saying play more win con once again doesn't play any win conditions
"But how does this deck deals damage?" Asks little Timmy...
EMOTIONAL DAMAGE
If only banning Sticker Goblin could make it 2010 again
ikr.

Pleasantly surprised by this one. I saw the runtime and thought we might be in for the dreaded 0-4 drop. Good work, Phil!
"This is a very important turn cycle for my opponent etc etc etc....anyway, this deck is unbeatable."
Subbed lmao
You: Void mirror was good?
Me: *in astronaut suit* it always has been.
🔫👨🚀
39 min legue? Assuming we absolutly crushed all OPs, no mercy.
It turns out that it doesn't take long to click the concede button XD

the one ring synergy babyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
"But how do you close games?"
"That's the neat part. You don't."
I think the phase you where looking for in the segway is "Lets turtle"
I'm very simple; I see Stax, I like.
Gotta love when the stax videos are always under an hour long 😅
Void Mirror is cool, the effect is potentially very powerful but so narrow that it's tough to find a good application. But when you do, you just feel very smart. I like sideboard cards like that.
Oh baby this is right up my alley
I've loved void mirror since it came out. Hoses tons of unfair stuff. Glad to see it getting its flowers!
Beautiful, thats peak magic
hahha great deck great puns
"my wincon is my opp conceding" 😂
Armageddon/Mana rocks/Covetous Dragon.... my first real tournament deck back in the late 90s/2000.
I was just wondering the other day if you could use ob nixilis the adversary with bowmasters in some kind of rakdos shell
21:20 "We're here for a long time but not a good time" says person who registered a deck with Smokestack.
Isn't that the point of Stax?
Boba tea? I like the taro smoothies with boba in it.
always wanted to play Dutch Stax with Moat, humility and elspeth, I only ever had one Moat that I picked up for enchantress before price spike

I agree! Didn’t even know this card existed. I’m making the Change.
When we're running this many soul lands it may be worth trying out Tangle Wire in place of the Smokestack
I have never seen Smokestack do anything useful in Legacy, and I'm excited to see it finally perform! :)
back in the day... oh nvm...
@@morgoth2425 LMAO

This is another good one ❤
feels like one or two urza's saga could fit resonably there...
I love how much trash you talked about void mirror and it kept delivering!
He hates void mirror for some reason. The thing is, if it eats a force, then it did its job.
Lol love it. Its basically one of my edh decks
Bubble Tea can't kill you, but the 'beetus will.
Boba tea is a good source of fiber
I was hoping to see a deck give Void Mirror a shot!
SMOKESTACK BABY GIVE IT UP FOR SMOKESTACK THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT BABY WOOOOOOOOO LETS GOOOOOOO
not unless you choke on them bobas, always good to drink boba tea in the safety of pairs so that there's someone to perform the heimlich maneuver lol
17:52 missed lethal, easy kill if you tap your lands
I guess replacements for Void Mirror and Smokestack would be considering some creatures?
Lodestone Golem, Walking Ballista, Thalia (bad against Bowmasters) come to mind
There actually was a girl who was hospitalized because she drank too much boba tea and the pearls were blocking her digestive tract, so, just make sure to chew them
Would a swords to plowshares or 2 not be crazy in this deck?
Ahh chalice 😮
Old armostax would use ghostly prison and magus of the tabernacle to brick creatures. Shouldn't need to scoop to a bowmaster
boba is life
Void mirror counter colorless eldrazi?
What's with the Elspeth? I don't see the synergy.
Aside from being am alternative win condition, it actually has some sinergies, it pairs well with humility against creatures, it also can win through moat cause pumps your soldiers and gives flying.
something like this, but with supression field
I see the title of a stax list.... then i see the length of the video 😬😬😬
I sat down expecting a long, drag out league. WRONG!!!
Do you only have 5 cards that can actually win? the Karns and the Elspeth? so if those get answered the deck just can't win and potentially deck itself?
It's a shame to see people fold, my response to these pain decks is to never fold make the opponent win.

Do you win game one 🤔 if you discard the wasteland and play the the sol land turn 2 with the humility 😉, i think so.
Boba wont kill you, but the sugar one day might.
I wonder if you need to put a ban on Smokestack and Tanglewire lists, though that might stop the 30-40yo crowd from donating :')
We need more "cant be countered" in magic. Screw free counterspells

Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the cruelest of them all?
Only if you are drinking boba from a can.
Needs tangle wire
Ahhhhh, my favorite type of misery
This deck is played at my fnm, its tougher to beat than you’d think for a 15 year old deck
“I’m just gonna die to one orcish bowmasters” is the MTG experience right now
Or you can just put removal in the deck idk

Playing 2 Armageddon instead of a split with ravages of war? Come on man! gotta build around cabal therapy! lol

"Good honest magic... with Armageddon"
Hmmmmmm
Fun is in fact a zero sum game.
You can die from drinking too much anything
Moxfield's deck list is not accurate. Missing somethings.
You can die from too much of anything.
