Heya, glad you gave it a whirl. Your matchups were definitely weird here. I found it quite fun as a grindy midrange deck with an "oops I win" button you sometimes press. It definitely needs some tweaks, my donor asked me to run it again so I'm going to have a tinker with it. The league I ran with it was some of the most fun I've had for a while, it really popped off and worked through spaces it maybe shouldn't have. I suspect my experience was above usual and yours below given matchups etc. As always, a pleasure to watch your content :D
I've been running a similar Necroburn list, and I think that Cellarspawn should be Sorin of House Markov. Then, you can max out your lifegain spells like March and you can even run Alms of the Vein as kind of like extra copies of Soul Spike you can cast when you discard to hand size. Having your combo piece be a 2 mana flip walker that can combo with itself as well as lifegain cards is so much better than a 3 mana creature that requires other cards.
I think that filigree sylex is marginally bettr than ratchet bomb, and even ignoring that its probably better to split them just in case an opponent needles one of them? Powder keg might be able to fill that role as well.
1x Bomb, Filigree Sylex, Keg, Karn's Sylex has been a pretty nice package for me in mono black. Karn's Sylex becomes a possible turn 1 win off a dark ritual shutting down fetchlands.
Hey, in the second game of round three, couldn’t you have responded to the goblin charbelcher activation by casting soul spike and hitting them for 11? They were at 14 and had to bolt themselves in order to play their land untapped for the turn. That would’ve won you the round, unless I’m missing something.
In order to cast soul spike for free, you have to be able to pitch two black cards. Unfortunately, he only had one black card, which is why he mentioned if they hit a land drop, he loses.
before starting to watch this i feel like the cellarspawn would deff be better in a blue/black shell for having force and daze backups to keep it protected?
21:40, why didn't you take a ring draw? You could have legend ruled your ring and then killed Nadu with fatal push. Also, weird sequence but would it have been correct to try to kill Nadu on their turn? The Nadu ability only triggers twice per turn so if he was able to counter the kill spell you are still getting rid of a Nadu trigger.
Still could have legend ruled the ring to trigger Revolt even without being able to draw, which is definitely not a situation you *want* to be in, but probably better than just conceding.
Was it correct to use Necro as a bait to resolve Ring vs Cephalid Breakfast in g2? If you resolve Necro instead, you get to draw cards much faster to look for a kill.
What do you think of drawing up to 12 cards with Cabal Ritual live, especially since whiffing on pitch spells means you likely have a midrange threat to Cabal out, and hitting a Soul Spike gets to 12 life for next turn??
narcomebas are useful to do things like sacrificing them to cast cabal therapy for free so you can get bridge from below bodies or poxwalkers on the battlefield (narcomebas return when milled; poxwalkers only return when you cast spells from places other than your hand (eg: flashback spells from GY)
Unless I'm missing something, could you not have tapped one ring at the end of round 2 to hopefully draw a land or ritual, legend rule with a new one ring to activate revolt and fatal push the Nadu?
Hey thraben....I've been playing magic since 94'.....I've gone to local legacy tournaments since 2010.... I've got spice deck ideas.... if you want a spice deck ideas, hit me up... I know the spice of the spice.........
Sideboarding round two, I can't fathom any reason to not including the faerie macabre. I'm gonna assume Phil plays magic better than me so comment section please help me understand.
macabre is a pretty dead card vs a massive portion of cephalid breakfast (everything but the combo) and you actually need to have 2 copies of macabre in hand to meaningfully interact with the combo a LOT of the time thanks to memory's journey just beating one macabre if it mills over before oracle does
I feel like this is kind of a gamble. It also feels a bit like, "how can I play Belcher without playing Belcher" I feel like a deck that folds to Vexing Bauble needs to be in Red/White/Green so it can remove a Bauble.
@bazejruba8750 other than Ratchet Bomb in the SB, I don't see this comboing through Bauble. All those pitch cards get countered. You get some damage through via Cellerspawn but those Soul Spikes do a lot of work.

I saw this on your channel and was literally looking for someone else that was playing this. Thanks for recommending it to Phil!
Imagine being the burn player in R4 and going up against maindeck Soul Spike. You just gotta mulligan to Roiling Vortex or lose
R4G2, Phil places Soul Spike on the bottom in a mull to five. Also Phil "oh, I guess Soul Spike was my last card in my library."
36:16 the soul spike was at the bottom because you mulliganed it down there 😊
yeah, maybe we should run some fetches in this one lol
@@vincentvangoo7078Fetches feel bad in a mana black deck that has Necro.

I love this black deck.
Some black leylines can be pitched for unmasks, and will also give you a sollution vs gy decks from turn 0.

Hell yes! I've been messing around with ancient cellarspawn in a death shadow shell with shadow of mortality and sickening shoal
Round 2 against @magicAids amazing :D
This is such a cool deck.
Lips look like they're healing but on that 8 week plan. I'm sorry, Phil!

one question about the 0 land spy deck in round 3, why run 1 narc and 4 poxwalkers ranter than 4 of narc and some other good card?
