Eachine Wizard 220S - Does it Suck? - Change Receiver, Update VTX, Replace Arms

- The Eachine 220s leaves alot to be desired. On paper this is the best quad for the money, but in actuality, this quad has some deficiencies.
Update 8/23/2017 - There is HOPE!
• Eachine Wizard 220s V1...
Grayson Hobby does a quick tutorial on how to change the RX, flip the Receiver, and what to do with the "carbon fiberless" frame.
The Frame is not fully carbon - but has the same bolt pattern as the x220 V1
The Stock RX has known issues
The VTX needs to be flipped 180 degrees (and has lines)
Hopefully there will be an update to the Eachine 220s version because this has lots of potential.

Hey guys! I'm so happy I still am flying my original 220 with your gold tune package on it. Looks like Eachine, in trying to give you more with this model, is actually giving you less. Keep up your videos....you guys are the greatest!
This is cool. Super technical guy and someone who just doesnt know a thing(like me). He literally asks the same questions that i am thinking. It may be annoying but we cant understand your technical language(yet). Every interruption he makes allows me to understand more. Honestly its still a little to technical but I'll catch on. Cant wait to get paid and order a few of these upgrades. Thanks guys!

Hey guys! That was a great video, thanks! I've had the X220S for a few years now, and had to by the PNP version, cause the BNF wasnt available. Due to my total noob status I've never had it in the air, but Ive finally figured out all the proper wiring thanks to this video!

Thanks for your video's. I learned a lot of them. It also convinced me to open up my x220s and do some modifications, even though it is my first drone and I had no experience in building drones, the different components and soldering whatsoever.
I was having terrible FPV reception with a lot of noise at first on my Wizard x220s. After having installed a low esr 1000uf 35v capacitor on the battery lead, an LC filter between the esc vbat out and the flight controller vbat in and a decent antenna I was having perfect reception and no more noise from the battery at punch outs and/or active breaking. And thanks for the advice on the X6B receiver. It is so much better, no more failsaves within 100 meters.
Unfortunately this new found vision and range made me a bit too enthusiastic and I crashed it, big time. It broke in several pieces... Luckily after watching all the content and my initial tinkering I'm convinced I can rebuild it. I'm also going to remove the LED lights on the arms and the then useless PDB. But leave the side plates on in the future, for some structural fortification (I crash a lot...) I've also soft mounted the flight controller and removed the gyro notch filters. I know I'm a noob but I think it now ripped!!
But I have a question, do you know which connector is used for the camera. It flew off, and I don't know which one to get. It has 3 cables but 4 pins? Which size? Hope you can tell me.

if you got the FPV bug but want a plane, look into the Blade theory wing, I've been very happy with mine, and uses the same lipos (3 or 4s 1500)

Grayson Hobby just looked it up. That looks awesome man...im still using my old spektrum radios and receivers. ...next thing i want is the taranis special edition. Then i will try that....i did planes first but that thing looks fast!

I bought the wizard x220 one week before the new x220s came out. At first i was mad that the new version came out a week later. But after seeing all the reviews im Soo happy I got the original x220 . Did some modifications to it but still fly's great! (:

Loved the video. I'm a noobie and just got my Wizard220s. Wish I would have waited until I saw this. Ugh. I also finally placed my first two orders with you guys. I hope you guys will put together a upgrade package for the Wizard220S so all the people who impulsively bought this thing can now fix it so it will take a crash. Wow so depressed now. Ugh

Banggood is sending out replacement arms for all who received 'carton' ones. @Grayson Hobby@ you need to share this information just to make sure there will be no duplicate orders on these arms.
Marwin, after testing we quickly postponed stocking this version, so we have no customers that are stuck with the issue. I guessing other vendors informed their customers already.
Could you guys show in more detail how to install the LC filter and what type of LC filter that will be used(V8.3 or V7.3) stuff like that. That would be great, thank you.

So, why couldn't you just solder the new receiver to the same uart port 6 ? I'm new so I apologize if that's a dumb question. Thx very much. I love your videos. Would like more off these to learn this hobby. You guys have a way of keeping it simple even when it may not be.

We would like to inform you that the frame arms of the Eachine Wizard X220S have been upgraded to carbon fiber ones, which are stronger.
We will send the carbon fiber frame arms for X220S to you for free. However, this item is currently out of stock and should become available again in 6-9 days.
1000sabor no they're still not 100% carbon fiber.
@@vampcaff idk I have hear the same thing. Since people complained eachine has changed It to full carbon fiber. I’m not 100 percent tho.

Just a random one I had in my parts bin at home. google "mini lc filter" there are several that look to be the same unit I used. There maybe better out there, but its what I had on hand.

Unfortunately I have two of these quads. Ordered a second one because the first wasn't working and I had heard they fixed a number of issues. Both of mine flip uncontrollably when I give the quad throttle. They are fine below half throttle but as soon as I throttle up they go crazy and crash. Using Spektrum sat. Tried upgrading firmware on one with no success. Not sure what the issue is and can't find solution. Not happy with this purchase.
Jim Atchison check the soldering of the motors to the esc. One my my wires to one of the motors was loose and caused similar issues.

I WAS thinking of getting this quad, and its still a decent package, its got some good internals, but things I've been hearing, from what reviewer to another, such as things like, poor cheap frame, fragile, shoddy soldering, crap receiver, a paGOda antenna that performs poorly than other pagoda antenna's, top frame that's brittle, side covers that are also brittle, its propellers are inefficient and show stress marks within a few minutes while eating up battery, the so called 1500mah lipo they give you may or may not be a 1500 or the actual "c" rating, cool LED's (which I like) but added an entire board just to power them, what else did I miss.
I thought the point of RTF was so you could get into and start flying without doing much. A tweak here and there and you're ready to go. Save some money and time. But instead, they give your the frustration and show that they cut corners to give you a so so product.
I still think there are some good parts internally, but there seems to be so many small issues that you end up spending money on replacing all the cheap poor parts, you might as well just used that money and bought a better quad to begin with.
Please keep making these videos I have been learning from you guys. what is the bonus receiver V Batt order SKU and LC filter I am building my 220s up like yours

Eachine is hit or miss on quality. I have a Wizard 220 that burst into flames in the second flight and has had every major component changed except the frame!
The carbon pattern is non-conductive, just test continuity on with a multimeter, if your worryed just use some electrical tape
I am near to buy one. I need some clearly advices, did you prefer x220 or x220s, if you change the poor frame of the S?
It would be great if you do a step-by-step tutorial about the X6B receiver on the X220S. I bought the ARF version and I'm researching about It. I have a FS-iA6B receiver but I don't know if it's compatible with the F4 (and I don't have the cables, ports or plugs)
I am currently in the same situation. I have the ARF X220s and the FS-IA6B. I have done some research and was thinking to connect/soder my FS-IA6B via IBUS cable to the flight controller. Plan B was to buy the X6B RX and do what they did in the video above. Would be helpful to know what you did?

Hey guys. Is it possible to connect the new reciever to excisting wires? Wires to the old reciever I mean..... soldering wires together is a bit easyer for beginner like me... or.... Is the only option to solder them to the uninverted uart1 port?

No need to rotate the VTX. I just cut a small 12x12mm square in the side plate. You can access the button and the LED no probs.
great info.. How did you cut the carbon fiber. Let us know the longevity of the frame.
Cut it with a razor saw. I rounded the corners with a file to reduce stress points. Very little material removed so fingers crossed!
PS I was checking out the barometer - got to 400ft and the crappy RX went failsafe. Dropped all the way down to the field - zero damage.

I'm going to be using a spektrum reciever that is 3.3 volts, does the f4 board have a 3.3v pad?
It has a dedicated satellite port right next to the USB port. it *should* be 3.3v on that, but I would confirm before using just in case.
Do you have the kit available to update the receiver and remove noise? And if you do how much is it?
Also maybe a suggestion to props?

Oh dear it's ashame they've released this version especially after the success of the original Which I purchased, it's more of a back up quad, flies lovely and smooth. I soft mounted both the FC and motors on the original, works a treat. Seems far too much effort on the new version to get things right, as for the quality of that frame, all I can say is shame on you eachine, shame on you.

Bummer on how these Wizards are shaping up to be. If the target crowd is entry level they'd be better off buying a "full" carbon clone frame and building that up. Learn on that, keep it around as a beater and then move to the fancy name brand. If I was a noobie and that happened to me I'd be pretty disappointed, might even toss it all in the trash and say forget it.
Now we know what the "S" means.
