Eternally grateful for this - I was just starting to think my ME-90 was faulty and I was going to have to send it back. I was finding that when I first switch on and use the pedals in manual mode, the effects don't work straight away when I press the pedals. Either nothing happens or they're not the same as the setting (the flanger doesn't flange, the wah doesn't wah) and I have to give the knobs a twiddle before if "catches on" and starts sounding like it should. I went through all the manuals but couldn’t find the answer. I now see this is all covered in the Parameters Guide section “configuring system settings” but I needed to watch this video first to know what I was looking for. I wouldn’t have known from the description in the guide that it was this causing the problem. Thanks again to this kind soul for sharing his knowledge.

I don't have one yet, but good video. I'm thinking about this one or maybe an IR2. I have to go direct or have a silent stage where I am going to be gigging. I have an old Peavey tube amp with a 15 inch speaker that I have been using with pedals, but I want something to go direct with multi effects with a loop and this has that. Will the levels work if you use it in Memory mode? I mean will they stay the same once you've saved your presets for the user presets and not factory presets? I only use about three or four sounds. Clean, slightly edge of break up, highish gain , and highest gain with delay and reverb and maybe some micro pitch from time to time and dual delay in the effects loop. I'm considering one of these hard, but also looking at the IR2 Since I have pedals and it also goes direct and has an effects loop that is very clever because you can put delays after the cab, etc,. Great video. I actually prefer the n1 mode and I can see why it’s really useful. If I’m editing a saved preset, let’s say the gain, I have no idea what level it is currently at - there is no indicator to tell me. Let’s say I want to turn it down by 1 or 2, it’s saved at 80 out of 100, but I don’t know this. My gain knob is currently at position 20, which doesn’t match the saved setting. If I try to edit this preset in n0 mode, and touch the gain knob, it will jump to 20 and I have no idea what the original value was. With n1, I can move it around safely until it catches the saved level 80, then fine tune it to 78
@@pstrokeslibsarcticI think so, yes. But for my use case this is fine, I’m using predefined/saved multi effects. I’m not going to turn one on or off during a gig. I’d much rather this than accidentally change the value and have no idea what the original value was
It depends on if you want to use the preamp models from the me90 or just use it as an effects unit. Both ways work. I did hook it up in the store through the loop of the katana and it sounded great!
@@the_guitar_generation hi 24-7Guitars! Thank you for your reply. Yes, I do like to use preamps on the unit also. Do you just have one cable from the mono out of the ME-90 go into the return socket of the katana? Or do you use two cables sent and return from the Katana into the ME-90? Hope you could clarify it a little bit more how you hook it up, thank you 😊! Have a nice day
@@laurens_livemusic I really don’t remember what I did. I think I just plugged it in from the send into the return of the katana? I’ll have to revisit that and let you know. Once I get my amp shipped to me I’ll be able to mess with it and get back to you. Sorry! It was a little while ago. I was just tryin to see what the preamp sounded like if I plugged into a simple power amp or maybe even a powered speaker. It did actually sound pretty good.
@@the_guitar_generation subscribed 👍 man, I just bought the ME90 and those knobs were driving me nuts. I was like "where did that sound go." I began to confuse myself as to whether red light was preset or blue 😂
Thanks, this was really useful. I bought my ME-90 two weeks ago and have been fiddling around the settings in a more or less puzzled state since. So this really helps. Now I just need to find out why the overdrive pedal sometimes just doesn't seem to create overdrive. But I'm sure there's a similar trick out there.
@@the_guitar_generation Thanks for your reply. Well, several times now when I switch on the overdrive pedal of the ME-90, the sound remains basically free of distortion (whereas the other effects work). But I get it to work after turning all the knobs. I will check the settings as you explain in your video, hopefully this will solve the issue. 🙂
@@cismercier8009 yes, it sounds like you need to change the universal setting to manual as I show in the video. It must be going to a predetermined user preset setting.
The Stonehenge Preset. “In ancient times, hundreds of years before human history, there lived an ancient people, Boss Engineers. No one knows who they were, or what they were doing, but their legacy remains, hewn into the ME-90”
The presets are interesting on my ME80, but I live in manual mode. They don't have any ME90's at the local music stores, can you tell me are the amp sounds noticably better and more dynamic?
Don’t get discouraged, it is actually very simple to use in manual mode. You just need to make a small adjustment to make it easier (as described in this video). It’s really very much like just using some stomp boxes. Go to a music store and give it a shot.👍
Ugh, those cryptic codes! I hope an ME-100 has meaningful text displays, and really nice would be to have rotary encoders and circles of LEDs around them.
Hi, I just use it in manual mode but I’ve found a couple of user presets that I love. I’d like to take the preset settings to show up in manual mode so I can tweak them for live playing. Can you help? Thanks from Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks for the video. Recently got mine. Manual is not so good all over the place and missing critical info. It would be nice if they included a companion manual with all the parameters like you explained. I'm still trying to figure out how to save a preset ? I'll check your other videos for a how to, Thanks again😎
I agree! But it is available online on their website. As for saving a preset, I’ll make a video about that and put it up shortly. It’s mainly about choosing where you want to save it and pushing the write button
When I take mine out of the box, I want to set up the ME90 so that all of my patches are to always retain the volume levels that I set them at , when created, and when later adjusted by me, is there a video on how to accomplish or solve 'JUST' this issue?
Thanks for the video , its really helpful..I bought bt dual adaptor but can't stream music through this.. only I could do edit the presets through the app. Could you please let me know how to solve this !!
Sure thing. It’s on the boss website. I Googled boss me90 manual. Then when on the boss site the products are in alphabetical order. Go to the M and click on me90. I’ll see if I can find a direct link for you, but that’s the process in the meantime.👍
Thanks! This has been a problem. But I get why. Let’s say you like a preset (and all the original ones are pre-loaded in the user section) but want to tweak some levels. Then you could go to Manual and make the adjustments and save them. The other way, admittedly better for Manual use, you can’t edit a preset on the fly (you can however do that on a computer or iPhone).
I prefer using it set to LINE and with headphones or an HiFi amp. The problem is that the other important setting is turning off the AIRD mode going on each Preset and setting the OUTPUT SP TYPE to USER 1 so it turns of AIRD OUTPUT. The problem is that I can't find how to turn it off on all preset, so every time Ihave to do it manually or save a Preset copy in User preset.
I’ll have to look into that. I agree, that would be a very useful feature! Unfortunately I think you can only use it for reverb or the fx loop. I’m out of town at the moment but I’ll check it out when I return. Thanks for watching and the support 🎸😎👍
Sorry for the stupid question, but how do I connect the ME-90 to Boss Tone Studio on my computer?! For 20 years I worked only with cubes and this is a problem for me! I downloaded the application, the drivers, everything that is on the boss's site, I connected it to the USB, but there is no connection to the Me-90, it does not work!!?
Good morning. I ask for help regarding the ME 90. Trying the delays: MODULATE, WARM, TAPE, ANALOG, STANDARD and also the one in the EQ/FX2 part, they are practically all the same and not even a stereo one. Is this the case or did they give me a defective pedal board? I've been using Boss pedals for a long time but never with this limit. Thank you and greetings. G.
Thanks. Have had any success finding a good boost option for solos while using it in manual mode? Like you I want to use the ME-90 as a stompbox pedal board.
You have to plug it in via usb c. I just went through it myself. It’d be nice and convenient if you could do it that way. Thanks for watching and your support😎🎸
One last Q! I've a fender tonemaster deluxe reverb which has no FX input and I've been seeing a lot of other channels talking about using the 4 cable method to get optimal tone from the ME-90, but you can't do that without the FX Input - Have you any info on using the ME-90 in amps without an FX Input - does it make a real diff? This is all new to me !
@@brianmcdermott3162 actually, I prefer to use it as a straight pedalboard straight into the input of the amp and bypass the preamps and just use all the effects. So yes, go for it!🎸👍
Got you, that's what I was thinking. Assume it's just a matter of switching to manual to bypass the pre-amp? I just received my ME-90 yesterday! @@the_guitar_generation
Are the effects and tones from this unit any better than those found on the old Cube XL amps? Just wondering because I am using a Marshall Origin 20 head and cab and I’m wondering if this would sound good. When I occasionally plug in to my old Cube 40xl it sounds like a toy. But that might be the speaker, cab and various other factors.
Thanks for watching! Yes, much better than the old cube amps. I would check it out for sure. Check out the other me90 videos on the channel to hear more examples. I hope you consider subscribing for other videos. 👍😎🎸
Thanks. Other problem : when I am in distorsion (OD DS) impossible to increase the volume with boost (on EQ FX2). The boost works only in clean. If someone has an idea to fix that…
@@jeanprune3255 that actually depends on how you have the amp set up. Which amp are you playing through? It may be that there isn’t any headroom left in the amp if it’s already maxed out for volume. For me, the boost does give extra volume if there’s still headroom left in the amp and the gaind drive is set to about unity volume or just above the amp volume
I am considering the Boss ME-90. However, I would like to know if you can use it also as MIDI controller for other amp sims such as TH-U, Neural DSP etc… ? Anyone could confirm that? Thank you.
@@the_guitar_generation FWD about one year later... I did purchase the ME-90 and it does work as midi controller using the usb cable. I can use it with amp sims like the wah pedal for example.
Unfortunately, no. It’s a receiver, so you can send Spotify or whatever music source through the unit to practice with regular headphones plugged into it, for example
Thank you so much! The manual is definitely a bunch of crap! You explained exactly what I wanted to know. I want my knobs to stay the same as before I turned off the unit. Why Roland choose to default to their preset I have no idea! Makes no sense.
Yeah, I don't appreciate someone saying that the manual isn't helpful because the manual already explained this for a while now. I mean, I appreciate this video so that you can help people figure out where this is coming from, but all these parameters you got them right out of the Bosch reference guide so I don't understand how you're saying the reference guide isn't helpful when it literally helped you figure this out
@@oneeyedcat6690 maybe you’re taking this too personally? Anyway, I was referring to the paper manual with the product not the online version. @@the_guitar_generation the manual works fine for me. Maybe you should've said "for me" instead of acting like no one can use the paper manual? I'd rather get the paper manual, like Boss products, than having to track down the PDF, even if I use both just in different settings.
@@oneeyedcat6690 fair point. Let’s keep things in perspective though. This is an off the cuff, zero budget home video trying to help. @24-7Guitars That doesn't stop you from being fair in your criticism by saying you don't like the manual rather than saying or implying that it doesn't work for anyone. My comments had nothing to do with the quality of your video. And to be fair, your videos are higher in quality than mine. All I was saying is that some find it helpful. I found your video helpful in terms of that one setting. I just found it sort of odd to act like the manual helps no one because the answer you provided is in the manual.

I wonder how many ME users actually use presets…ME peeps seem to be old school ‘physical pedal’ guys/gals. I tried the Headrush route for a year, but went back to my ME-70. I like to be able to reach down and turn a knob mid song if something is off. Excited to get the ME-90.
ME 50 🤔hey man, I haven't even opened mine yet, but I am pretty sure that U1 and whatever, would be user settings and P1/whatever would be presets already installed. If not, well that is just backwards. Also, this is the first review that I have heard of this issue at all. Kind of weird bro. 😬
Love your videos, really appreciate you making stuff like this. I've been playing with the ME90 for a week now and was equally annoyed by this out-of-the-box setting so your video really helped. Then I found this guy: th-cam.com/video/8wh4zILQTUo/w-d-xo.html with the older unit explain how he dials in his main tones on a user pre-set (clean, breakup, distortion, etc) on the 4 pedals and then clicks into manual mode to add MODs on the fly in the song. I thought this was an interesting way to use the multi-fx and the first time I saw it on YT so figured I'd flag it up in case anyone was curious as to why boss sets things up this way. Hi! When you connect the me-90 to a katana do you put it in the input or in the return socket on the back of the Katana? Thank you
It depends on if you want to use the preamp models from the me90 or just use it as an effects unit.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Thanks for watching! Glad it helped👍 that’s strange about the overdrive pedal. Which overdrives are you using?
@@the_guitar_generation Thanks for your reply. Well, several times now when I switch on the overdrive pedal of the ME-90, the sound remains basically free of distortion (whereas the other effects work). But I get it to work after turning all the knobs. I will check the settings as you explain in your video, hopefully this will solve the issue. 🙂
@@cismercier8009 yes, it sounds like you need to change the universal setting to manual as I show in the video. It must be going to a predetermined user preset setting.
Me too. The technology is fantastic but they need a simple A, B, C…manual to walk you through everything.
Thanks for the video. Could you do one, where you dial in some tones that you would use?

The presets are interesting on my ME80, but I live in manual mode. They don't have any ME90's at the local music stores, can you tell me are the amp sounds noticably better and more dynamic?

Is there a simpler pedal thats similar to this? This is just too confusing for me to try to use in manual mode, I thought it would be so much easier.
Don’t get discouraged, it is actually very simple to use in manual mode. You just need to make a small adjustment to make it easier (as described in this video). It’s really very much like just using some stomp boxes. Go to a music store and give it a shot.👍
You saved my life. Thank you! LOL.
Ugh, those cryptic codes! I hope an ME-100 has meaningful text displays, and really nice would be to have rotary encoders and circles of LEDs around them.

Hi Lorne, thanks for your video. Please can you tell us where you found the info of this "codes"?
Sure thing. It’s on the boss website. I Googled boss me90 manual. Then when on the boss site the products are in alphabetical order. Go to the M and click on me90. I’ll see if I can find a direct link for you, but that’s the process in the meantime.👍

@@the_guitar_generation grazie mille
@@DerrenTube ya that’s frustrating. I’m not sure about that one

G.
Strange! The tone of the delays are definitely different. What are you playing it through?
but is there a stereo of the deals I mentioned?
Can this also be done in Tone Studio?
Yes, I believe it can. Thanks for watching!
Thanks. Have had any success finding a good boost option for solos while using it in manual mode? Like you I want to use the ME-90 as a stompbox pedal board.
@@mfohr yes, I use the boost in the eq section to give it a lift for my solos👍
Hi snd God bless. Theirs an option before the one you are mentioning. You have it at H1. Mine came at H0. What does that do? Should I change it ?
H1 let’s you preview the bank switch before switching and H0 is more an an instant switch. Depends on how you like to use it.

Anyone know if you can connect your guitar to the ME-90 wirelessly and the ME-90 wirelessly to the amp?
It would require using separate wireless systems
Thanks, so using a Boss wireless or similar system x 2 - one for guitar to ME-90 and one from ME-90 to the Amp? @@the_guitar_generation
Thanks. Other problem : when I am in distorsion (OD DS) impossible to increase the volume with boost (on EQ FX2). The boost works only in clean. If someone has an idea to fix that…
That’s a strange one. Is this when playing through an amp or direct through the unit / headphones or a speaker etc?
@@the_guitar_generation playing through an amp. I you have the ME90 you can see that. The boost increases the drive but not the volume
