    I grew up singing "Davy Crockett" and still sing it time to time. This was an absolutely wonderful video. Thank you. I keep up with Col. Martin in Kentucky. I have visited the birthplace of Davy and it is pretty neat.

    Excellent video, Scott! Your video on "Davy" is one of the best on TH-cam. My 4th great-grandfather, George Russell, and 5th great-grandfather, Maj. William Russell, knew Davy Crockett. Videos such as yours, really bring history alive and bring us closer to knowing these great men. Thanks for making this wonderful video!

    * He was NOT just an Indian figter... he was an Indian defender! He abandoned that cushy Washington political life because he spoke out on what Jackson and his government were doing to Cherokee at that time was beyond criminal. He was one of the first to advocate for Native American sovereignty. A TRUE HERO

    Such great information! Already an incredible character, Davy’s life has been steeped in fable and folklore. He’s truly fascinating!

    My Dad still sings that song ever so often. We visited Davy’s birthplace too. He wasn’t born on a mountain top in Tennessee, he was born in a field! Lol It’s a great place to visit. My family has been back several times to visit. Well worth going to see! Enjoyed watching the video very much! Great work.

      My Dad is 78 and Mom is 74. I cherish every second we’re together. I live across the little lane from them on the family farm so, I really never left home! My Dad taught us a love for history. We’ve tried to visit as many historic sites as we could through the years.

    Disney first used Davy Crockett as it made a great tune, but in all his writing and speeches he always used David not Davy. I noticed the Historical Markers in video used David.

    His life as a child was one of slavery. Indentcured from six years old to twenty one. His wife Polly was heard to have said" if you were a woman or a child you were a slave. Had nothing to do with color. Linclon would grow up the same way.

    Thanks for the video. One of the founding families of the State of Franklin was the family of Samuel Billingsley. They came there because they were being persecuted by the Colonial Governor of N.C. over a rebellion about taxes. They were neighbors to the Crockett family and knew them well. When the revolution happened Samuel and his brother James were captains under Greene. The Redcoats hung they're father in the front yard of his home because of that. They were captains at the battles of Cowpens and Kings Mountain along with they're Crabtree and Poteet cousins. Samuel's grandson was Jesse Billingsley, the son of a preacher who told Houston to "Go to Hell" when ordered to retreat from San Jacinto. He gave a speech to his men that coined the phrase "remember Goliad remember the Alamo. When he refused to retreat Houston was forced to fight. Jesse lost the use of his left hand in that battle. Samuel's mother lived to over 100 and was still telling the story of her husband being hung by the Redcoats to her great-grandchildren one of which was Jesse. Elizabeth Crabtree Billingsley was the aunt of my 5x great grandmother Elizabeth Crabtree Poteet. Jesse was also a famous Texas Ranger and member of the House of Representatives. He is buried in the state cemetery in Austin not far from Chris Kyle. Because he opposed secession the only friend he had left when he died was his cat.

    I've also read somewhere that David's full name was David STERN Crockett. Will someone please cite me at least one source that supports this information?

    Can you do the Bishop homestead on the James river Virginia ? I believe it was 1650ish when captain John Bishop sr. Came hear , I'm not sure though. I had enough of Oregon and the West Coast but, I came back to Virginia. Clarksville where the James river pooled up at the Kerr dam and returns to the ocean just like the Oregon grand round river that kissed the snake river in Idaho and continues back to the ocean. I got my first memories in virginia Beach in 1964 -1965 . Long story short, I returned in 2020 to Buchanan off the 81 both and followed the James river down through the mountains to Roanoke then, down to Danville and bought a map . I saw the water at Clarksville and made it my final resting place .
    I intend to head north to D.C. when the time is right. I have a few things in life to accomplish before I'm finished . I sure would appreciate a video on the Bishops . my pops is aging and sending the video would be a blessing
    Thank you for your attention. 😊

    Kings Mtn, Cowpens and the battle of Guilford Courthouse, which really was a loss. Anytime you have to fire on your on people and your enemy at the same time, it is a ruff victory. Then Cornwallis went to Wilmington NC could not resupply. Then went to Yorktown. The French fleet bottled him up, between Washington and the French. Little of a history nut myself

    Had Davy Crockett ever met Daniel Boone?

    • @familytreenutshistorygenealogy
      @familytreenutshistorygenealogy  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s highly unlikely, and most don’t realize that Boone could have been Crockett’s grandfather (age wise) as Boone was 52 years older than Crockett. Many think of them interchangeably and don’t realize that their is so much time between them.
