Super helpful! I bought a replacement SD card reader and the tools to open up the Switch. What ended up happening is that the OEM reader was simply unplugged, I suspect when my son dropped his Switch. Simply pressing to plug the pins back together and it read the inserted card immediately. This was a great video and helped me through the process, so thank you!
Thanks for this comment. I think my card reader was slightly disconnected. I disconnected it completely and reconnected it - pressed firmly and then tested it, and it worked! I decided to put a bit of electrical tape over to secure the connector in place a bit better, hopefully it doesn't happen again.
Thanks man! My system hasn't been able to read the card in a few months. I recently bought a new card with more space just to see if that was the issue. Nope! It was just a loose screw that I needed to tighten. If anyone needs tools for this, I used a bit set from Walmart that was labeled for technology repair
The same issue was happening to me, i replaced the card reader and the message still kept popping up. What i did was a little unordinay and maybe a bit extreme. first thing i did was add some 3m tape underneath the micro-sd reader to hold it in place better. Then i placed a square semi thick piece of plastic just enough to fit inside the plug area (on top of the plug of course). then, i added some 3m tape on top of the piece of plastic and stacked it just enough to where when i place the cover back on and bolt everything down, it would create pressure to hold down the plug and thus not being able to move at all. Make sure to get the 3m tape inside the gaps around the piece of plastic for more stability.
I am so happy to have come across this. My nephew girlfriend is having this issue on her switch and after I tested out my sd card on it, I figured the reader was bad. This showed how easy it is to swap out so I appreciate you putting this out.

So mine is saying sd card has been removed and I’ve replaced the sd card reader a few times already and replaced the sd card im not sure if any movement triggers it but it does do it if I move it a lot. I’m not sure what to do anymore. Any advice? No pins are broken or anything I checked all of that.

Thanks for the video! I wish I'd have seen it before I started maintaining or repairing my switch..lol I've removed all the screws on the sides every time I go in. My switch won't recognize an SD card after I replaced the thermal paste. I'm fairly certain I left a connection loose or something, but watching this I'm happy even if it's more that, it's a reasonably simple repair to replace the reader.

it worked for me just to clean it. Thank you so much for the tutorial. Also, those Y screws can be a pain so there is a video circulating of how to use an alternative to a Y screwdriver. I had to this that method to remove those pesty Y screwdrivers and it totally worked. Thank you again for the awesome tutorial. My SD card reader for some reason was loose I removed it cleaned it and put it back and it totally worked! 😃
Just updated my switch after it being turned off for a few months. Now I consistently get the "micro sd card removed" while its still in place. Never had this problem before and only started after the update Edit: my sd reader broke during my move. So I ordered a new one. Edit 2: 3rd party card reader didnt fix the issue. Just ordered a "new one" from a broken console that was parted out. Fingers crossed for me.
What size bits did you use for each type of screw? Some of them will come out, but others won't. I can't tell if I'm using the wrong size or trying to remove a stripped screw.
Dude, followed your lead when I got to the part, I noticed it didn't have to put any effort into disconnecting it. turns out it was just not connected very well straight from the factory. Just gave it a nudge, and put an extra piece of tape over it and it golden. Now I have a spare reader if it ever really does fail. Ignore my typing. Sorry.

So he’s knocked it of the shelf and it’s snapped the Hdmi cable in the hdmi port and when I’ve picked up the Hdmi port came out the back so I’ve taken it apart and the pads our out the motherboard is it still possible to be fixed thanks and much support from 🇬🇧 👍

Hey man, Do you have any videos that help fix corruptions for the Nintendo switch? I even switch consoles to a brand new one and they all give me the same kind of corruption when trying to download games or they go through and are unplayable. Is it something with my account or an SD card issue? Getting the SanDisk extreme 1tb card. Most games work fine but then the ones I really wanted to play wasn't working.
i got to the part where you disconnect the touch screen. paused for a second and reconnected it. turned it on and it worked! sometimes it just comes loose, saved myself the trouble of replacing the touch screen, the peel looked daunting. so for anyone who has a touchscreen not working try this first, just disconnect and reconnect the ribbon it might work!

i don't know how youtubers are opening the switch so easily only 1 one my tri hex screws is unscrewing. only the top right one is working my top left bottom left and right just won't turn. i don't know this is annoying because i just went to a repair shop to get my fan fix and the fan got fixed but either he forgot to reconnect the sd card or broke it somehow. but now my sd card reader isn't reading my sd cards and i thought well since he got it open maybe everything would be looser and it can open but nope i don't understand what's how he was able to open it. did i just buy the wrong 1.5 screwdrivers or something?

Quick fix: I had dropped mine and thought I have to buy a new reader. Before ordering a new reader, I just opened it up and noticed the reader was unplugged. Pressed it back with my finger and now it works no matter how I squeeze my device. My advice: check if your existing reader is just out of place before ordering a new reader. i have previously bought a iFIxit screwdriver set so it had all the screwdrivers needed. Either yours is broken.. or like mine, not connected well. Mine acted like yours.

Yes that’s seems to be the flaw with these. That they easily become unplugged with minimal movement

Its a y or tri wing screw diver easily 5 or less bucks in a pack set and a phillips i think theyre bith 50mm

Dope! I took mine apart and the old one worked just fine. Looks like the connector came loose. Used a spudger to push it back in place

Problem is error message The microSD card has been removed.
The console will now turn off. I even switched SD cards and still get the same message.
One of the pins on the connector was detached so had to resolder to fix my problem

My 2 switch handle slots have 1 metal plate. After remove it. It works correct.
My switch(OLED) sees the sd card but when I try to download a game into it doesn't it says that it can't detect it....and yes I have space....help?
