Yooo that was a solid repair! You're getting good at this! Also, not an expert, but in (I think) the latest TronicsFix video trying to fix a camera, he showed you can replace just the single pin on those types of connectors if you don't have another connector to replace it.
@@StezStixFix I'll add to this. I replaced the pin on the game reader socket by transplanting just one pin. its a similar style to this sd socket. I was prepared replace the whole connector if that didn't work. but luckily it did. I do however think replacing the whole connector is a better way of doing it, as I assume the pin is glued/moulded into the plastic slighty too. keep up the good work
Except, there's a follow up video where it's revealed that some of the connector wires didn't solder properly and came out when he unplugged the SD board.
Wow. Great fix! Watching that connector come off the donor was magical. Beginning to think we need to see a compilation of fails before we forget you're just a regular guy. 😜
@@StezStixFix So it did fail on you sadly? If that's the case that is not good to hear, I've had this problem with my original switch sense I've opened it too many times apparently to where the connectors became loose. I have the little prongs I guess that came out to where it's not able to fully read the SD connector and is just the whole hassle. I looked at the oled switch and it seems to have it to where it's on a separate piece like how the switch card reader is instead of directly on the motherboard. I would love to get the console fixed and be able to mod it as well but for all the hassle that I have seen as well as barely any info otherwise, yeah it's ridiculous to try and even think about fixing it in general.
Yet again a priceless reaction to a successful repair. You still over do it with the soldering though and when it's in place, maybe leave it in place instead of nudging it all over the place with the tweezers.
very nice repair Stez, i recently had to do the same job, but instead of replacing the whole connector I copied another youtuber who just took a single pin from another connector and soldered it on the missing one.
Thanks Roy! In hindsight, I should have tried that but I couldn't find the pin which was missing. I didn't think to just remove a pin from the donor and try that! 😬 I definitely will next time!
Haha, yeah, I thought I'd heat from above to get the original one off and experiment a bit. Seeing it curl up like that was definitely a sign to never do that with one that you want to keep! 😁
actually no. theres a huge gap between the heatpipe and the metal back shield. Nintendo used a thick thermalputty here, so using something like K5-Pro does the trick.
got this one to do myself in the next day or so when the component comes in , hopefully i surprise myself too :') Good job again lad , i come back for inspiration haha!
Thanks Kieron! I was really nervous on this one, but I'm pleased with how it turned out! I'll definitely be more confident on my next one too, so all is good!
I’ve got one that has a broken connector that has had jumper wires installed onto the reader. Sadly it doesn’t work since, maybe wire has come adrift! You fancy a go of fixing it?
Steve you are a clever man well done don’t know if I am talking silly but could you buy that part instead of taking it off a donor board keep up the good work can we please have some old sets to repair like the radio you put Alexa in take care 👏👏👍

A common issue with Switch Model 1, don't know if they fixed this on Switch Model 2, but they definitely did on OLED model. Mine was saved by jumping a wire instead to the SD card reader.
happened to mine also i nmanaged to save it but good shout on soldering to the sd pcb directly if i ever do take it apart again which is highly possible aha!
Mine wont read any cards..not sd or games..no other problems at all except switch was off for a month and battery took five days to fully charge. Dont know what to think..could it be that it got used to having no cards in it???
Thank you so much for this video. Was having the same issue and when i opened uo my switch the sd card reader just fell off(daughter likes to drop the switch) reseated and it worked without a flaw. Thank you so much as someone without a working switch for months
This is exactly the problem I have. although in my case it is 50/50 on whether the sd is recognised or errors out which confirms there must be some form of damage on the connector. Maybe this might be a good video case for him to investigate.
Thanks Danny! Yeah, sounds like you may have a loose pin. The first time I "fixed" this, I just thought the connector was loose, but it must have just been making a slight connection, and as soon as the console was jolted, it lost it again. I think those tiny pins must be quite susceptible to a bit of corrosion!
@@StezStixFix wished I had the soldering confidence to do this myself. But I do know there is a wire bypass trick that can be done where the connector doesn’t need to be replaced but again that needs not only the chart but hand and eye coordination as one wrong move and your switch is fried
I had a modded switch and while the repair you did fixed the issue, it was unnecessary. It normally throws that error when the boot file on the SD card is not getting recognized by the dongle as well and has something to do with the RCM mode as well. For someone who doesn't have experience with the modded switch, definitely a great fix! It can be an extreme hassle, but it's mostly just reloading atmosphere or the newest patch of atmosphere on the SD card again.
thats one of the most impressive fixes ive seen you do, thats so much harder than it even looks. Well done!
