With the Arturia, I like to dial in the compression I'm after, then dip in to the advanced settings and grab the range control. Bringing that down inside the GR level then starts to bring out some extra character as it begins to break-up/saturate
Theyve shot this out against the physical unit...this is the best Drums Comp VST Hands down....in this plugin...WAVES blew Slate Digital, Acustica Audio, Nebula and UA away...this sounds 90% Identical to the Hardware...a $500 Unit for $29.00 cant beat it
A true Studio Legend. It wasn't that expensive, i think? Hence many studio's (incl smaller ones) had them. Always wanted one. haha. Recently i finally got 'one' though; The Arturia emulation ;-) Love it!
I feel like I’m hearing additional/extended reverb when the compressor is not bypassed. Especially in the last emulator. Am I hearing things? Is this the added flavour? You’ll go back to rack effects one day mate, I’ll bet my MPC on it! Good luck with the channel too, It’s going to blow up one day. If I had 2 MPC’s, I’d bet that as well. Yes it brings up the noise floor, so things like reverb, room noise, etc will be brought up. It’s reducing the dynamic range overall. The 160 is especially known for that. That’s why I love it on live drums and breaks etc
Hey dude. It’s subjective really. The 160 is known for its smack in drums so if that’s a sound you want, then it’s still relevant. I tend to use the UAD version because I like its characteristics, but there are great versions from Waves, Arturia and a few others.

Ah cool, I will have to try that. As I said in the video, I rarely even open that panel. Thanks for watching.
Yeh man you’re right. It adds some character. Nice shout.
Thanks for the detailed introduction to the 160. Great video! I really like the way it makes snares hit; going to be trying it out for sure!
Yeh man, that "thwack" sound. I love it. Thanks for watching.
Looks like Softube currently have their VCA Compressor (DBX 160) for free on their site for a limited time. March 2024
Amazing. I’ll check that out. Good shout.

You definitely can't beat 29 bucks. Thanks for watching.
Do you have a link to that shootout? Where was this done?

Yes I do like the Arturia one for sure. I love them all though. Thanks for watching dude.

Wondering if this plugin still is relavent or are there any modern alternatives for this plygin in a different form ?

Thanks buddy
Your youtube image had me thinking you we're about to use the hardware. Since you are using plugins, you should change that.
Noted. Thanks for watching.
