I just did my Canon AE-1 a few days ago, 42 odd years old lol ,, used yarn in the door tracks and replaced the mirror bumper with the peel off felt 1 mm thick,, also did the door ends with the felt.. have not used it yet but hoping I did a good job.. I bought the camera new in 1982 I think.. It really has only had maybe 10- 15 rolls of film through it back in the day.... I fixed the shutter noise with a drop of oil a few years ago but never used it. I have an old roll of Kodak film in my fridge, I will load it soon and give it a try....Also Just bought a Canon sl3 last week , first camera after the 1982 AE-!.. 42 years apart lol...wish me luck.. lol.. got an adapter to use my fd lenses on my new camera also .. Canon 50 mm and a Canon 70-210 macro,, looking forward to have some fun with it all.

Outstanding! I used the same web site for my light seal kits. I peeled the white backing and used a 75% Alcohol hand sanitizer to lightly coat the pieces and they slipped in nicely and the alcohol dried relatively quickly.

Everybody on TH-cam has their own way of doing this, but your's is better than most. I too have done a few dozen of these and I get better, smarter, and faster with each one.

Couldn't help noticing the wrestling photos are spectacular. As a newspaper guy, I wish I had taken them.

for removing he residue in channels and edges I used alcohol prep pads and tooth picks to clean any foam or rubbery residue to clean the channel and edges without leaving much in the camera. worked pretty good and the prep pads are readily available.

I use non-adhesive foam for the light channels- it doesn't fall out & it's easier to insert than the sticky type.

On really old cameras, say 40 years plus, new light seals are a must. Any good shop can do it. OR you may be able to do it yourself.
These classic and vintage cameras ARE worth saving.

Have you ever tried to use soft (40A) neoprene rubber? The foam is so delicate that I broke it when using the seal kit. Neoprene is much tougher and should work very well for those narrow channels.

Any information on the light seals for the Nikon F? It has a removable back so the sealing is probably trickier to do.

It has A felt cloth material that should last a lifetime.

What do you do about the area in the channel the tab from the door goes into to reset the film counter. I'm thinking its ok to cover because the tab will poke through.

I have a Minolta XG 1 and it needs some work done on it. Do you provide a camera repair service or know of a good place I can send my camera?

Using string is a good idea, I will have to try that. Can you give me a link to the glue you are using.

Amazon Prime and Michaels has it. If you Google gs hypo cement you'll find all kinds of information about the product from the company who makes it including solvents how to care for the dispensing tube.

This is not a tutorial. There is a lot of talk about how to remove and apply material, but zero video on how to actually remove or apply the material. He does show you, however, how to drink beer.
