    I have a 40 hp mariner on a bass tracker had the same issues. Changed gas line to motor like you and the impeller last was the fuel filter like you said and boat is running like new. Thanks for help figuring out the fix.

    Awesome video! I’ve had all these same problems with my portable fuel tank, especially here in Texas during the summer. Keep up the good work!

    Take off the fuel cap and undo to screw holding it together. Pull out the rubber plug inside the cap. Your vent will now work as it should.

    Change your fuel too the black fuel line especially in a tank like that that's not letting the fumes out it will eat a stupid cheap liner in the fuel line and clog up your carburetor and filter , I did it a couple years ago I cleaned the carburetor 2 times before I took the line off at the tank and it was clogged with like a white gel.

    Also, I want to add this about one of your vids on cooling water impeller replacement on a Tohatsu /Mercury 5 or 6 HP , 4-stroke outboard motor . You edited out the part where you fought like hell to get the drive shaft splines to engine, lower water pick-up tube to upper water pick-up tube, and the lower to upper gear shift linkage all aligned up together at the same time so the lower up will mate to the middle unit . 🤨 This is the trickiest / hardest part of water impeller inspection/replacement !

    How would you decide to get the 6 HP outboard *with* or *without* the internal gas tank?

    • @Skinnyriver
      @Skinnyriver  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’d rather have an internal tank. Having one with internal tank and carrying a small 1 gallon emergency tank will get you almost any where you want to go. If you have a bigger boat the external tank maybe best, but it takes up a lot of space and is heavy

  • @Pskiff18
    @Pskiff18 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My motor bogged down on me last week after I filled my tank. Guy on the boat ramp said I over filled my tank causing some vent issues. Could that possibly be an issue for motor to be bogging down?

    • @Skinnyriver
      @Skinnyriver  ปีที่แล้ว

      Man I haven’t heard that, it’s possible it created some weird suction issue preventing the vent from working and it starved your motor of gas. Fill it up less, try it again, if it doesn’t bog down then yeah it was a weird issue with the tank

    • @CEvalley
      @CEvalley 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah i just bought a new gas tank (having these issues with it) and was doing some research and saw a couple of times where it was mentioned that you shouldn’t fill the gas tank all the way up

    • @Skinnyriver
      @Skinnyriver  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @CEvalley yeah good point, I had an issue where I filled it all the way up on a hot day and when I opened it, it shot gas everywhere

    • @CEvalley
      @CEvalley 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Skinnyriver Right…? And I know no one wants that. I bought the 6 gallon Attwood and the other day after I installed it the temperature got to 70 and it swelled up so damn big it was forcing fuel all the way through the carburetor and was pouring out the bottom of the cowl. Needless to say I wasn’t really pleased about that…. I live in central Alabama and it gets a little warmer than 70 here! As many people are posting complaining about that they really nee to address the problem before someone does get hurt.

    • @Skinnyriver
      @Skinnyriver  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah I keep some head space (don’t fill it all the way up). The legal way to fix the issue is add a fuel demand valve. Others not “legal” lol is to leave the cap cracked or remove the rubber valve in the vent. I’m not suggesting the illegal methods 😅😅😅

    What should I do if the fuel goes into my internal tank when I try to prime the engine with external tank ? Am I trying to prime too much

    • @Skinnyriver
      @Skinnyriver  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That generally means you internal gas tank valve is closed. You have to close it when you use the external tank

    • @aarongonzalez7913
      @aarongonzalez7913 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Skinnyriver thank you, I just tried this but it didn’t seem to work, the internal tank was half way full and after running it with my external tank connected it ends up being completely full, is this something I should be worried about? It even leaks gas out of the internal when I have the valve open

    • @aarongonzalez7913
      @aarongonzalez7913 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just wondering if this is normal for the fuel to be pumped from the external to the internal, I don’t have much experience with these motors and wanna make sure everything’s good

  • @candoslayer

    Have you seen born again boating on fuel stabilizers? He stated no to use them as all they do is mix the water with the fuel which in the long term can cause damage to the engine instead he says buy ethanol free gas for your boat .

    • @Skinnyriver
      @Skinnyriver  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah I’ll check it out. I usually use ethanol free but sometimes use an ethanol treatment / stabilizer but it’s all probably a scam

  • @andrewklahn7899
    @andrewklahn7899 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Gas suspense from the heat internal pressure inside these cheap gas tanks will cause them to spend and could possibly blow up and killing somebody😊

  • @TopBananaMan
    @TopBananaMan 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I just bought a new tohatsu 9.8
    I am reading through my owners manual.
    They recommend to use a filter to separate water.
    Have you tried that before?
    Or do you think a fuel stabilizer is enough to do the trick?

    • @Skinnyriver
      @Skinnyriver  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I just use a fuel stabilizer. It’s worked great. Biggest risk is long term storage, make sure you run it dry or use something like sea foam.
      I don’t have experience with ware separators, there is risk of condensation build up and other ways water can get in that these help with. But I just use stabilizer and try to cycle through the gas and not let it sit very long.

      Yes, good on a calm day. But when the chop kicks up, you may have fuel spillage out of the tank and onto the floor of the boat. And not good when fishing in the rain.

  • @mt_9076
    @mt_9076 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    You are NOT fully correct in your statements. There is a tank pressure relief valve in the system also . This doesn't allow the tank positive pressure to exceed more than 5 PSI.
