Hi suzi and travis, here are mental as anything another one of my favourite Australian bands singing one of their hit 80s songs iF you leave me can I come too? The mentals (as they are know affectionately) started in the late 70s and had several big hits in Australia in the 80s. They are still performing to this day . Slightly quirky pop rock but always fun. Enjoy!

One of the best pub bands in Aussie history. Must have seen them over 20 times. Mental As Anything - He's Just No Good For You (1987) is a great single take video.

Loved The Mentals growing up, just an incredibly fun band. This song, Live It Up, The NIps Are Getting Bigger, Too Many Times and Your So Strong were their biggest hits. Greedy Smith, Martin Plaza and Reg Mombassa became household names. Great reflection of the Australian Psyche at the time. Irreverant, even when discussing serious matters.
You've got to listen to their first biggie " The Nips are getting Bigger " .

A side note on this awesome Aussie band is that one of their video's was being filmed in a suburban area and the production crew went out trying to recruit locals to be in the video and told them "The Mentals are in your street" lol..I am sure many locked their door and windows but a lot did understand and turned up. Reg Mombassa the lead guitar player is also an accomplished artist and is a lead designer for the label MAMBO.

The Mentals kept me sane in boarding school. “Date With Destiny,” “Big Wheel,” so many others. Definitely a rabbit hole for you guys, memories for me.

I've seen Mental As Anything a few years back now, and I tell ya . Even though the boys are older .They still rocked ! Think it's about time you guys checked out The Dyvnals again.Jealous and science fiction are both fantastic.
"The Nips Are Getting Bigger" is easily the best song from the Mentals.

The Bass line at the beginning is very unique.
I saw them perform this live at a lunchtime concert at my uni early in their career. That great title line reduced to 'can I come too?' became something we say in our marriage if one is a bit annoyed with the other, still breaks the tension with a smile all these years later.
Saw them in concert a few years ago. In a nightclub. I wasn't expecting the Mentals. Good band

MAA just one of the best feel good Aussie bands. Understated but 100 % quality 👌 . I always loved the fact that this clip was filmed in Hobart Tasmania. The house they walked out of, used to be well known on the Brooker Highway with it's standout lovely red flower hedge 😃👍🤗

I think of Mental As Anything as a bunch of art students who formed a band and never took themselves too seriously. Consequently, their music isn't going to go down in the annuls of rock history, but they sure were quirky and a lot of fun. (They were good artists)
Martin Plaza's white singlet makes a very funny statement.
The rest of the Band following him down the garden path was funny then and still is funny today.
They all met at Art School in the late 70's.
They really knew how to write a great 'Pop/Rock' song.

Great to see my home town feature in a music vid, the iconic kunanyi / Mount Wellington and Salamanca Place in Hobart, Tasmania.
Wasn't it great? I never knew there was a video clip filmed in Hobart.

Haveta do Berserk Warriors Mental As Anything...it was a tribute to ABBA and their breakdown as couples.
It was written by band member Reg Mombassa who is also an accomplished artist providing designs for the Mambo surfwear fashion brand

PS RIP to Andrew "Greedy" Smith who passed in 2019 of a heart attack whilst moving house at 63 years of age. He was in the Red Jacket in this clip. He sang some of their other hits, but was not singing this one.
This band is another one from the 70s in Australia. My goodness what a time period for our music! I loved them in my teenage years.
They were the first band in the world to play at Live Aid 1985
the guy with blue jacket & crazy hair was an artist who had his art on Mambo surf wear which is a huge brand here in Australia. not sure if the brand is overseas, you should check out their shirts very cool. 😎🏝🌞🌊

He and his brother, the other guitarist, founded Mambo...Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
Its a catchy name as a restaurant went with the theme and called themselves Lentil As Anything (vegetarian of course).
Great Australian pub band I grew up in Sydney lots of the mentalist live. Please check out if you haven't Stevie Wright's Evie parts 1,2 and 3 Sydney Opera House 1979 possibly Australia's greatest rock song ever.
There are many vegetarian restaurants in Australia named Lentil as Anything.

I thought there was only one original member, Greedy Smith, left in the band, but then he died a couple of years back. Did the band still continue after that, as per what was read out at the start?
The studio recorded version for radio or film clip is much better.
Do you want to hear a god sing? Go to Tommy Johansson's YT channel and listen. He played guitar in Sabaton until recently and has his band Majestica. Releases a cover every Friday. Godsend. Multi-instrumentalist and does everything himself, sings and plays all instruments. Go in and enjoy

This is not the best video, the true video is very hard to find. Blonde guy Greedy died a few years back, got the knickname as they got paud in KFC at a university gig and greedy ate the lot. The lead guitarist is the brother of the shorter guitarust now in a band called Dog Trumpet, inspired by Reg Mombassa and his Mambo clothing line. They never took them selves seriously.
seen them 3 times in the last 35 years, always a good gig, each time 10 years apart. the first time was the Geelong Hotel, Victoria, AKA The Refinery Night Club, down there for trade school and running a muck as we always did on a thursday night.
