      100%!!! I’d considered putting in a feature request ages ago before this happened and maybe I should do it now. Or maybe someone has already requested this and I can vote it up ⬆️

      As well as the idle throttle delay, this setting nav_fw_launch_min_time will ignore any TX inputs, accidental or otherwise, for a short time giving you the opportunity to pick it up without worrying about knocking any sticks etc. or treading on it :-)

      @@stevietee10 I had considered this for a brief moment but decided I wanted the ability to be able to shit off the throttle should the launch not go well and it ends up on the floor. However I didn’t look into this feature much and maybe there is an override by doing something like disarming 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Two words of advice from a fellow hand launcher - NECK STRAP.
    Great to see it repaired and back in the air, personally, I don't feel a plane is REALLY mine until I've repaired it ;-)

    • @AdamGdoesFPV
      @AdamGdoesFPV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha fair enough, thankfully I haven't had to repair too many planes in my time, this was the biggest repair job i've done. Neck strap is essential for planes hand launched with one hand, however I use 2 for this so have to place tx on the ground. Thanks to an iNav dev I have a custom solution now😁

      It's an intimidating plane to launch, especially as it weighs close to 4.5kg and has enough power to rip itself from your hands. Maybe as time goes on I'll get comfortable with the launch, but for now it's still a little intense. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it👍🏻

    Thanks so much for sharing ... for at least three main reasons:
    1 - we learn from that mistake - keep sensitive stuff out of the way you may step over, especially when you have to throw something heavy as fast as possible at the right angle that you may instantly need you to stabilize yourself after and do not expected moves in a wider radius ... and make a healthy compromise with the wind direction and the given environment (once I have almost been throwing my wing into the only tree around)
    2 - collect every little bit of debris from the crash, not only for environmental reasons, this stuff can be glued back up and it may save you from buying a new air frame ... when properly laminated and/or taped it regains its stability and doesn't compromise the airflow either (congrats on that fantastic repair job!)
    3 - it makes it easier deal with our own stupid/avoidable mistakes when we see that a much more experienced pilot also screws up things occasionally and most of all is strong enough to share this mistake in order to help others 👍
    You are a better pilot when you process your mistakes, create routines to avoid them in the future but also forgive yourself and look ahead without fear that would counteract the enormous joy this hobby brings.

    Dang. So happy to see how well it went with your repair afterwards. I would be pissed by myself to. Glad it turned out so well.
    We all been there once. I remember when I had my Raphax pretty fresh. It was in POSHOLD above me and some high trees next to me and I wanted to chase it with my Quad. But I was so stupid and cut the throttle when I layed down the radio to grab the other one to launch the quad and did not realize that motor stop override was on. So it circled down with no power and when I put the goggles on to change channel, I saw the last second before it hit the tree nose first, directly into the step. But fortunately, nothing more than a bit crumbled foam (that was replaced by a TPU nose afterwards anyway) and a few scratches in the lam. The Climb Action to get it out was a bit nerve wrecking though xD

    I did a similar thing during a 30 second Autolaunch myself...Casually picked up my Transmitter and just nudged a stick, enough to drop it into Horizon Mode..Still taking my time to get on the Monitor, it's heading out at zero feet towards some trees and hedges..just pulled it up in time...🤔😳😳🇬🇧

I think when we're talking aircraft this big (and Im not flying my sky hunter without one) is a bungee launch - I'm left handed and trying to launch and manage the throttle is a nightmare - I dont trust my feet to manage acceleration either lol but finding a decent launcher seems to be real hard and I dont want to make one myself as I'd hate for it to fail and wreck the plane - Im a bit cautious as you can tell :D Anyway - glad you managed to repair it - looks like a great job fella

    There is a parameter to set in iNav to make it ignore stick inputs for the first X seconds after launch. Set this to something useful like 3 to 5 seconds to avoid that...
    Also I recommend Bungee launch - takes just a few mins to mount on the field, but it will give you a 100% success rate launching whatever plane.
    Nice to see that you fixed it after this crash, impact sounded already expensive :-/ Beautiful plane!

    I feel ya on the launching of this big bird. I've always had friends throw the plane for that reason. I've blown the nose off of mine 3 times now, 2 tip stalls and 10k worth of 5s in the bin and then the third fail i was flying along after a great launch and wanted to hit the DVR button on my ORQA's and instead hit the power button which was set to press off at the time and power down they did. I was at 200' altitude and it pitched strait down went into the ground. It only broke the nose off again. This foam is some amazing stuff for sure. It's an amazing craft and demands patience as we have found out but is insanely forgiving in hard impacts. Cheers and here's to many more flights!

    Ouch. Very instructional. Sad to see such a nice plane crash like that. I used to discus launch wings quite successfully which allows you to hold your TX. Maybe intimidating for a Drak though but I bet it could be done. Also you are deep enough into this to look at Ardupilot. Love iNav but my planes fly Ardupilot!

    • @AdamGdoesFPV
      @AdamGdoesFPV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I don't think the Drak will be suited to the discus throw (which i've used on other wings). My current method works well when I don't play football with the tx haha. I tried Ardu but got fed up of issues using MacOS as I don't have a Windows machine, so I gave up. iNav is improving rapidly at the moment and I'm looking forward to seeing huge improvements in version 3.0 which is due to be released this summer. • @dagazenterprise
    @dagazenterprise 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    i've broken the nose off my full size drak 3 times, the first two were during landing where it tip stalled and center punched the ground, destroying the battery and nose. Some E6000 and i was good to go. The third time, i launched fine and was flying around no problem when i decided to turn the fan on in my ORQA goggles. I had the power button still set to one push off.... I hit the wrong button at 200 feet in manual mode.... Strait into the ground it went, again, breaking the nose off. Besides the wrinkles, it's very difficult to see what has happened. Also, it's not broken in the same spot. It is well worth the price, as you stated, any other model would have been confetti.

    So unlucky!! But it did repair very well.
    My only critique is the launches are kinda rotating the Drak out of your hand, so it dips the left wing before the verts/auto launch catch it and it levels off.
    I think this is where I prefer a manual launch for this one, gets the Drak proper weightless and you just give it a toss, but throw it straight without any spin. I have given mine a spin in a manual launch and it is a bit squeaky bum trying to recover it lol

    Of course, I've never done anything so stupid as tread on my TX, I went one step further - No one knows this but........During the maiden launch of my last FX61, for some reason I forgot to hook my TX onto my neck strap. As I let go of the TX to pull my goggles down, it hit the floor, battery cover fell off and the battery came out and ripped the battery connector off. This is when I realised RTH didn't work and I never saw the FX61 again. I have two of these , actually three , one built and two new in a box for anyone looking for one , with carbon arms, motor and servos sets , these came from Chris in the USA , The one that is built has a matek wing flight controller and 1.3 GHz FPV, it's also signed on the wing by Chris Click so a rare one for sure. They were £500 each . Top end on the repair , they are very strong planes.
    The launch with this model is dicey , I injury could Acure quite easily , your better of putting the RC controller on a stand or have the plane launched with a second person or catapult , that's what I used , safer for sure.

      I use both hands when I throw. I'm not the best at launching planes so a 4.3kg plane that's an awkward shape is a bit of a challenge. Thanks to an iNav dev I have a custom version of iNav now with an idle throttle delay so i no longer need to use my foot, works a treat

    That Drak Looks an even bigger PitA to launch than a big wing, and has a big prop at 100% throttle just gagging to chew your leg and hands up... maybe worth a ramp and bungee launch system?
    Yes, its a ballache setting the ramp frame out and staking the bungee securely, but it would give you 10/10 passable/recoverable and safe launches rather than 9/10 good, but with the 10th bad launch being almost a write-off or even worse leaving you chewed up and with what looks like 10s of miles to get to the nearest A&E hospital.

    • @AdamGdoesFPV
      @AdamGdoesFPV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it's a little scary and awkward to launch but I really want to avoid a bungee as it's a lot of extra effort to take it to the field, setup, pack away. What it would mean is i wouldn't bother flying it due to the extra effort. Anyway I have a solution now thanks to an iNav dev, hand launching is going well :) thanks for watching and commenting

    Big loss, I "felt" your regret right after that big hit. But Bro, look at 4:09 - you are doing the same mistake again! This sideway-backward move towards your radio while still looking at plane.

      @Mt1Dmitriy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AdamGdoesFPV this time:) but you will still keep this way 1-3% fail rate, if walking before turning head first :) Autolaunch works on your Drak perfectly, no need to rush so much and save 1 more sec by moving backwards.

      People ask this question in every video i use it🙈 Autotrim only works for 2 seconds, and you do it at the start of the flight to trim out the plane. Then the message remains on the screen for the rest of the flight
