Went out with a guide for my first time and he made me learn. It was hard at first but I got better. My issue is always worrying about oncoming obstacles. It turned out to be one of the greatest days of my life. I was soooo sore the next few days.
Thank you so much for this video. I literally watched this when I drifted out into the middle of a lake and realized I didn't know how to row! Life saver
Great video for a beginner rower. I'm sure the technique can be refined and personalized by folks as they improve! I'd (selfishly) love a video on the crab stroke, or otherwise when folks have got one oar facing perpendicular to the boat and the other parallel, as a means to move across the river while holding the boat in line with the current. Thanks again and happy fishing y'all.
The last part of his pull stroke is just arms; it should be mainly torso. Lean back as much as you can! When you pull both with your arms AND with your upper body, you can row indefinitely - regardless of how strong or weak you are. And you will finally get rid of that back pain which you've been complaining about for ages!
Get rid of the oarlocks, take your thumbs off the end of the grip, snap the blades out of the water at the end of the stroke and learn to feather the blades.
Thank you for taking the time to add your opinion, Stephen. You row without oarlocks? Or did you mean oar rights? We have noted that the oar right topic generates quite a bit of animus from the anti-oar right set. Some of our guides use them and some don't. John has rowed around the world a couple of times and he likes 'em. Some folks like 'em and some don't. We're just here to tell you that it is okay either way. Happy rowing!
This is also a good place to drop the link for the oar set up video where the oar rights are part of the discussion... th-cam.com/video/3VNa12OWDCg/w-d-xo.html

The double oar turn... probably the hardest thing to build muscle memory on. Such a difficult move. You do it with ease.
Nice
