- Travel along the Puffing Billy Railway from Belgrave to Menzies Creek in the Dandenong ranges in the East of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on the 2ft 6inch gauge railway which was once the lifeline connecting this area to the rest of the state. Now a magical ride for tourists, it runs through the beautiful scenery that the ranges have to offer. Well worth the trip and easy to get to with the connecting Melbourne suburban railway at Belgrave.

As a girl from North Bayswater, I first went on this beautiful Puffing Billy when I was 6, and I remember sitting on the edge of the carriage window and I dropped my best handkerchief onto the bush. I was devastated 😂. Have been on it a few times over the decades and always loved it. Most Melbourne eastern suburbs kids know and love this train ♥️ Thank you for the memories.
Great memories of happy times. I'm sure many others have great memories also as you point out. I wonder if your handkerchief is laying somewhere. 🤔 🤔 long gone. Glad you enjoyed the video. 👍😀
Brilliantly captured the sound of Puffing Billy. Great video
@@daniellecarlisle5683 thank you. I am very happy you enjoyed the ride 👍 😀
667 you have excelled yourself, this is one of the best rail journeys ever, very relaxing and what amazing scenery along the way. 🌴🚂🌴🚂🌴🚂🌴🚂🌴🚂🌴🚂🌴🚂🌴🚂🌴🚂🌴🚂
@@noelroberts8199 thank you. I am very happy to hear you enjoyed the ride on puffing billy. 👍😀
Great video. Nice view and the sound of the train was magic. As a young`n I would get a close up look at the trains. Dad used to cut sleepers up for the trains to burn. He would take me to where he was cutting and of course there where the trains. So from a young age I got a liking for steam trains that has not lessened.
@@dhall4363 they do have a magic about them. Glad you enjoyed the ride 👍 😀
Amazing Long too one of your best. Stunning visuals sound too I have ear buds on Perfect
@@thomasrobinson8336 very happy to hear that you enjoyed the ride 👍 😀
I am wondering will you be posting the whole journey to Gembrook? It would be good if you could
I rode on this 20 odd years ago. I never realised how much of a climb this journey is 😮
It is steep, that's for sure. 👍😀
Our kids went to school at Menzies creek. I always thought that it would have been cool to have a school train.
@@yapvoonyee1778 a different and great way to get to school. 👍😀
The sound of the whistle on the "Na" class is unique.
It is a nice sounding whistle. 👍😀
I live in the Hills. Puffo's whistle used to characterise this place, until the wowsers moved in and complained. Now it's only the compulsory hoots. ☹
That's unfortunate. The sound of the whistle is music. 👍😀
This is a classic train ride you would have gone half way in summer it goes all the way to Gembrook
@@Mediawatcher2023 😀👍
Stuck to GoPro on the outside of the steam train it's an excellent idea
@@thex-wing it’s a great idea

I start working at Puffing Billy in July
Wow that should be a great experience
I'm a member of Puffing Billy. I was an active member as a conductor, occasional worked in the workshop, worked in refreshments at both Belgrave and Lakeside as well as helped relay track from Fielder to Cockatoo before the Lakeside-Gembrook section was reopened back in the 90s. I stopped doing the volunteer side of things after December 1997 when there was a tragedy in the family that messed me up. Wouldn't mind going back to work there behind the scenes away from the public but I live up in the country and I'm not sure if there's anywhere to stay for a couple of days as I think Moondarra is not used anymore(?)
👍😀
I would give the section of the Belgrave line from fern tree gully to Puffing Billy.
I don't think they could handle the patronage or want it today. 🤔👍
@@driver667 true but that section feels like the ranges
@@legosc5265 👍😀
From Upper Ferntree Gully to Belgrave used to be part of the original Puffing Billy up until it closed in 1953.
@@oneeyedrichmond yes it was. 👍😀
Looked like it was so well balanced on the right rail, I almost mistook it for a Tassie freight train.😄
🤣🤣👍
I've never noticed how narrow the track gauge is.
2ft 6in wide. Fairly narrow. 👍😀

Top of your class were you?
