Thanks for the detailed tear down, John. Over the last 4 decades i have rebuilt just about everything on my cars, but i have never taken a brake booster apart, interesting to finally see the insides. The fact that i have needed to tear one apart just goes to show how reliable simple technology is.

      Steve,
I really like taking things apart...sometimes royally screwing them up in the process, but over the years it's how I've learned a lot of things. Works for me, my friend. 😛
      Regards,
      John

Both boots are vacuum seals! My bakelite plastic was broken. I very carefully and specially repaired it with slow cure JB Weld. ! Hope you get it to work.

There are no one left now. I got a new master cylinder, and the booster done by a man, who had all things to do it. The whole deel was at 860 dollars. Right now I am going true the carburater. More than 1 wrong spelling. Thank You, for the work, on the videos. Valiuble information.

I had my booster for my '65 which is the crimp style they installed a new boot, and check valve and shipping for $324 holy mackerel! Gee, I think I will have a brand new car by the time I am done.....

I just did my 65 Monaco Booster. That bayonet mount has a rubber valve behind it.

Looking at the video I see no reason this booster wouldn't be OK. Just clean everything and assemble and I bet it will work just fine. I rebuilt many boosters back in the day. Take care and Merry Christmas to you and Wifey.

I agree. I'm surprised at how pliable the rubber seals still are. I figured they'd be hard as rocks with a million tears and cracks throughout. I'm not complaining, my friend. 😁

John, that brake booster would look really good painted in Ford Blue... just saying !! That was cool watching you disassemble that part... as you always say NO RUSH !! Merry Christmas John to you and your family.

Makes me wonder John if parts from the Lincolns from that time might have interchangeable parts with the Birds of that time. I know that some parts between the Merc Marques, the Crown Vics, and the Town Cars had parts that would swap.
You know, back in the 60's and 70's I use to go to Flatrock to watch the stocks run. I probably watched Brendan run that track a time or two.

    • @joernone
      @joernone  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Carl,
No doubt the Lincoln parts would be interchangeable, also a very heavy car and all that, but they would still require tear-down to see how they held up over the years. And as for Brendan at the track...chances are you did see him, my friend.
      Regards,
      John

Superb video, watched it extensively before I pulled my booster apart to see if it might have been a simple fix. Had less brake fluid in mine by the look, but more cracked parts and a lack of retaining clips on the input/output rods
Mind If I use a clip to direct our watchers over this way for more thunderbird content in our next episode on our '66?

Hi John, I'm Adrian, Chris and myself are building a kit car, restoring a '66 Thunderbird and a few other cars in the UK. Been keeping up with your rebuild for a while and found this one extremely useful trying to redo my brake system. Happy to send you a link to a pre-release of the video tomorrow
Thanks again for your videos and help!
