BlazBlue Entropy Effect is an excellent showcase of the best aspects of the roguelike genre. It takes the core features and expands on them tenfold to deliver only an addictive action experience. Repetition should be expected, and although early boss battles overstay their welcome, they really find their footing after you progress past the opening chapters. So, even though this isn't the BlazBlue we're used it, Entropy Effect respects the series' characters by retaining what makes them so beloved.

The full 1.0 release actually changed the game quite a bit, so some of the information in the review is a little outdated. Entorpy was removed (yeah I know lol) and instead of gaining buffs/debuffs by progressing you get them in the beginning, in exhanges, events and so on. The Rest rooms only give you health now since you don't passivly gain Entorpy anymore. Also HP Mixtures (healing potions) aren't an upgrade anymore, but you start with 1 and can buy or find other ones during a run.
Edit: Okay Idk if it was added with a new patch, but you can gain more hp mixtures through upgrading, though the progression system works a lot differently than in Early Access.
Entropy is it's own unique system, that is akin to the heat system in Hades, you can customise your own difficulties. They didn't remove it, it goes up to 100, but it's permenant for each run.
Noisy Pixel and The Kiseki Nut
both SUCKS and only cares about triple AAA game for dickriding profession
I wasn't much of a rougelike/lite player until Hades came out, which made me want to dive deeper into the genre. I played Dead Cells and loved it as well. However, I am a COLOSSAL fighting game fan with Blazblue being up their as one of my favourite series. So, you could imagine my excitement when a genre I recently got into crossed over with my favourite one.
I logged so much time into this game since early access and dove right back in with 1.0. I finished the main story in a day and that final boss fight made my head explode with hype. This game quickly became my favourite rougelite/like and I hope that more games in the genre take a page out or BBEE's combat.
All I need now is for Azrael, Kagura, Nine, Makoto, Naoto, and Bullet to join the roster and I will be a VERY happy dude.
Awesome review, thank you. I hope they add more characters in the future, like Rachel and Hazama.
I'm counting on it :)
I've always liked the art style of blazblue but don't really like fighting games so never got one. I'm very excited about this
Huge Blazblue fan! This would be perfect to play on my Steam Deck!
It’s on sale too
I also LOVE Blazblue, and I can confirm that this is awesome on the Steam Deck.
@@kode-man23 yup! I picked it up and I'm loving it too!
I had no clue what BlazBlue was, simply saw it had great reviews on the roguelite subreddit and picked it up.
Very fun!
I went for it and bought this last night, its super fun!
I didn't know you can play as other characters. That's pretty rad.
From the opening moments, I didn't expect to like this game, and then I couldn't stop having fun.
Ugh I wish I could play this on switch, looks amazing 😭
same, would be so fun to have on switch so i can take it with me 😵💫
Been playing early access on Steam Deck for two months now. I am so happy to have traded in my Switch
This is the perfect game for portability
It might get a mobile release later.
This reminds me a bit of Trinity Fusion, but better. Just picked this up after your glowing review! I think I'll need to get a second job come February after picking up all your recommendations!
so your telling me we got games like hollow knight and this. and there is still no fighting game story mode that surpasses subspace emissary. why tf is this not just the blazblue story mode
At least blazblue ip it's not totally dead, but to me the best of the franchise was the comic nature and characters
His complaint about the way the story drags down the face paced gameplay reminds me a lot of how I felt while playing Hades, but it's weird that nobody else every complained about that game.
I see what you’re saying. I’ll comment since I’ve played both of them. I think Hades turned into a game all about narrative with deep lore. This game was developed by a Chinese team within a sci-fi setting. Due to the love of high fantasy in that region story scenes can drag on desperately long with lengthy conversations with no movement on the actual narrative just more exposition. Sometimes it works like in Sword and Fairy, an RPG, but here it doesn’t flow well.
Totally see your comparison, though!
Mechanics changed dramatically with version 1.0, making a lot of this video already out of date. Core gameplay is the same though, which is good. Just a lot of the progression in the game was overhauled
The footage is, but I played ver. 1.0 for 2 weeks before release and the early access since last year.
I was expecting a 3D metroidvania, but a robocop vs terminator is fun too!
tnx for explaining some points
I really hope Guilty Gear gets the same treatment as well!
nice video! i want to ask, is the game replayable? meaning, after you have done with the story would you play it again?
The official release change a lot of things in the game
Hoping this comes to PS5, I’d definitely buy it!
heck yeah, new game to checkout!
Is your review on v1.0 or Early Access? These seems b e a lot of discourse on the steam page about the version. Curious on what you've reviewed?
I had access to version 1.0 for 2 weeks before launch. It’s fun :)
@@NoisyPixelNews Cool. I played for an hour and a half to remain within the refund window. Does the gameplay get to being anything like in the trailers? Fastpaced and Flashy?
@@NoisyPixelNewsI had the same question as this guy above me.
@@zerovirus999 yes, it gets very fast-paced and flashy, however depending on the character you play the gameplay feels more or less dynamic!
@@maxd.2239 You're right it does. I intentionally unlocked of the slowest characters. I went with Ragna and Hakumen
Hopefully now that 1.0 is out they can get it on console.
I love noisy pixel
NP loves you back
Does anyone know how much variety this game has apart from the 10 different playstyles ?
Not much... The elements are gimmicky and most upgrades are much worse than other options. If you really want you can fish for fun builds but the games take a long time...
7h in . better than hades and dead cells . my 2 cents
“The result of this becomes one that is the most addictive roguelikes that I’ve played since maybe Hades, but its combat systems are on a whole other level.”
THIS. The early access version was honestly my favorite game of 2023. Considering it was incomplete, and the insane number of behemoth releases in 2023, that’s saying a lot. 🎮😎👍
Great minds
VoidBlue Terrarium Blaze
tanx 4 the rev noisy
Any word on multiplayer being fixed?
Needs to release putside of steam.
Lots of explanation of game mechanics without stating how that influences your enjoyment of said mechanics. I think you said it had a story, but you didn't say how you liked the story or how it compares with Hades' storytelling or other games with great stories.
Seems like the 1.0 launch is becoming controversial...
Looks AWESOME. Hope it'll be available on PS5.
I'm sorry to say, but PC has an INSANELY LONG list of underrated games that never come to consoles because of reasons (what I mean is that anything can happen, from gameplay being hard to adapt, to bad number of sales or dev team issues), and things aren't looking great for this title. I hope it ends up being available on consoles too :/
Is this 1.0 review?
Switch?
W
so confuse...
Is this a roguelike game? You only mentioned it about a dozen times.
playstation?
I was all hype until the intro to this video facepalm 🤦♂️ removing from steam card 🤣😂🤣
imagine if they made a guilty gear roguelike
Prefer of it was a Metroidvania
Garbage
