I’m so glad to see this review… this game is truly special. I’ve put 40ish hours in so far and my appreciation and love just continues to grow. Weapon diversity, meta progression, build variety… this game isn’t just good, it’s genuinely one of the greatest Roguelikes of all time.
This males me excited to jump in and play this tonight! And my absolute favorite action roguelite right now is Astral Ascent. It's soooooooo good! Check out out!
As for gank bosses, I think they're a good thing, at least for games that primarily have combat against multiple enemies, (like this one). It's easy to get into the headspace of a fight being annoying because you're fighting multiple strong guys unlike the enemies, where it's primarily multiple weak guys, but that means they're doing their job. Like you mentioned with the first boss, single target enemies usually struggle really hard against your player character who's entire identity is fine tuned to beating the crud out of multiple targets at once. Annoying enemies are always more fun than boring enemies.
That’s a good point, honestly. The second boss also becomes much easier once you get better at the game. I will say though that leaving the bow guy for last is absolutely NOT the play as he’s a slippery SOB in his stronger form. Part of it I think is the developer became better at designing bosses at they got further into the game, because the other solo bosses I found engaging/not doormats.
@@sl1ppey good to hear about that. And I'm glad you had a great time with the game, I hope to pick it up soon enough myself! Been loving all your recent recommendations!
agreed! the primary example i'd give for this is the mantis lords/sisters of battle from hollow knight, which end up being literally the most fun fights in the entire game once you learn them
@@fuzzy_freak As i approached tne arena i said aloud "Are they Mantis lording me right now? My next words were "IM GETTING JUMPED HELP" somehow i survived. I proceeded to not be able to get back there the rest of the night after having to deal with warlock.
I just have under 50 hours picking it up with the 1.0 release and I already 100% it. It’s such an amazing game that oooooozes so much charm. The art style is so pretty to look at with the animation of each spirits blessings showing on screen buttery smooth. The music IS AMAZING. I’m just patiently waiting for the day when the whole ost is released for purchasing or on Spotify because tracks such at the high priestess, leader of the order and the outskirts are seriously addicting. Don’t want to get to carried away but I just love the game so much, and also favorite weapon has to be Link blades base variant, so much fun packed into one weapon
i liked the part with the little guy and the sounds he makes and also when you did the wombo combos and all that other stuff. very cool vid and great lookin game!
I personally disagree with your group boss fight take. Fighting more than one boss fight at once is one of my favorite things in gaming... when it's done right.
I think it’s partially because I’m a big Souls fan, and besides the obvious exception of O & S, I think most of those types of bosses are ehhh, so my taste is kind of tainted in that regard.
Try haiku the robot, it's a metroidvania in a robot world. The true final boss is a triple fight and it's my favorite boss I've ever fought. They follow each other up perfectly and depending on who you eliminate first the attacks drastically change
I find the "Smash Bros as a single player game" aspect to be really interesting, bc I've always felt DMC is that for fighting games. Also, I've had that same gay wolf meme saved for years, but haven't put it into a video yet, so kudos for working it in lol
The only thing I didn't quite like was how expensive it is to unlock new weapons. I guess I was a bit of a tryhard. After mastering the starting weapon I kinda realized I could just funnel whatever currency I found into other more meaningful upgrades since I was OK on the weapon department. I like how it's not as punishing as other roguelikes, but at the same time, I was kinda molded into that kind of difficulty so it's hard to not sweat my way through.
Yeah, the upfront cost is bit of a hurdle, and while I love the battle-axe, it’s also arguably the least flashy out of all the weapons which can lead to a less impactful first impression.
(the comment was translated through a translator who... mistakes sometimes) SpiritFall sounds like "kill enemies by clicking X until they die and collect all damage bonuses until you complete the game. and when you get through, go through it again, because it's Roguelite"
It is admittedly very stat-heavy and also pretty button-mashy, but I’d say the mashing is similar to Hades where I call it “strategic mashing.” Like yeah, you’re spamming attacks a lot, but you still have to pay attention to what your positioning, cooldowns, and what the enemies are doing.
@@sl1ppey as for the position of the player and mobs, but should look at how often player can kill a mob faster mob hit player. but as for skills, player can spammed skills (but it depends on the game design. and yes, I didn't play "spiritfall")
While not quite the same, this really looks like it'll help scratch the itch i've had since finishing sakuna of rice and ruin. It's got similar air juggling, grappling, and ping ponging enemies off of not just walls but also each other. Highly recommend you try it out even if you're not into farming sims, since you can lower the difficulty of either farming or dungeon exploring independently of each other.
hey, i think you might enjoy a game titled Worldless, its a glorious challanging game for those who like to suffer before they beat something (especially later on), and its combat is utterly captivating :P
What sold me on the hammer-axe was the enchantments that add a projectile to a perfect-charge and the one that makes your launcher charge instantly but gives it a short cooldown. That combo is so stupidly busted and fun to build around.

i hugely slept on this game based entirely on the steam screenshots, actually looks super fun
also so based for clown awarding steam reviews lol
First time seeing one of your videos. Subscribed. Quick review, funny humor and just enough in depth for me. Hell ya bud
Thank you!!
I've been enjoying the heck out of this game since early access and I'm happy to see it get more attention.
I played the demo for this during a Nextfest, and man, was it ever a blast. Glad to hear it sticks the landing as a full game!
i got nothing to say about this review. it was just amazing as always. great work
You got my attention on roguelike, but when you showed that platform fighting footage , you got me hook! Will try it someday, thx for the vid Sl1ppey!

The link blades give me Darksiders vibes and I'm here for it. Glad you're enjoying the game!
2023 was a banger for rogues. this, voidigo, and astral ascent are 3 of the best run based games I've played
Past few years have just been winner after winner for indies, it’s really reignited my passion for the medium in general.
I'm really happy that I'm subscribed to you lmao
I'll play the shit out of this

You're one of my favorite review channels, thanks for the great videos
🥺 Thank you a lot for that. It genuinely means a lot.
Ooo cool! I played the demo of this during a steam next fest and haven't kept up with its development.
I am so your target demographic its crazy

@@sl1ppey Well, good group boss fights that come to my head are the Mantis Lords and Nailmasters Oro and Mato, both from Hollow Knight.

If you want another roguelike to check out, I recommend RAM: Random Access Mayhem. It’s only a demo currently, but it’s pretty good.

Welp time to put too much of my free time into yet another roguelike. Thanks Sl1ppey!
Hey thank you for watching!
Great review, this game looks amazing, I think it would be really nice on switch 🥺🙏
That’s the other downside: the fact that it’s only available on PC right now
I no longer play Smash Bros. cuz is so sweaty but this got my attention!

Sounds neat, I’m into farming sims so the combat->farm loop sounds up my alley
#relatable! #kirbygang. However, I experienced nostalgia, especially down b'ing a brick into my older bros head.
Wow, i have no idea who you are or what this game is but this video was pretty cool so i'll give it a go !
Hey thanks a lot!!
OFF when?
I have no idea, but I thank you for reminding me of it
hey, i think you might enjoy a game titled Worldless, its a glorious challanging game for those who like to suffer before they beat something (especially later on), and its combat is utterly captivating :P
In retrospect I hated that line. Should wrote/VO’d something different there LOL. Adding it to the wishlist!
@@sl1ppey it certainly stands out, but doesnt that just make the video more memorable?
How do you know my little brother was so good at smash bros
Because I was the little brother spamming down+b as Kirby
almost all of the negative reviews on steam have the clown award did you do this?
Pfft I can only dream of being that petty. I think I hit like 4 or 5 with the Jester award including the one for the video.
@@sl1ppey ah ok lol, great video btw i think im gonna check this game out
U should try out soul knight, it's a really great roguelike (altoughts it's only on mobile)
Link blades alt, bow and equinox alt are my favorite weapons. I like the others too but i HATE the crossbow and base hammer axe, they're boring asf

@@sl1ppey i thought that was hammer axe alt form, but maybe its on both can't remember
Consoles? Ever
Please get the game on console for us console people. Advocate for us
If I had the power it would've been on console yesterday :(
i really wanna say first guys... please dont make it cringe... guys...
Ok
Can you shutvhp

Proud of u
I can report that I’ve seen Sl1ppey pour countless hours into this game via Discord status.
