    A few suggestions for you next fanny pack.... bright lighter colored fabric on the inside...it is so hard to see inside a black lined bag,
    A pocket on the side that will hold a regular size water bottle. Looks like you are great at sewing!

    • @jaclynbaerart
      @jaclynbaerart  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes! I had thought of that too, but only had black for the inside fabric. Such a great idea! And I'll keep in mind a spot for a water bottle that isn't too big to carry. thank you!

      @@jaclynbaerart Actually one of those little water bottles would work better. I have a purse that fits a water bottle in the side, and I love it. But a full-size water bottle would be too big for a fanny pack. Thank you for replying. I'll be watching with fascination as you work this all out.

      @@jaclynbaerart Thank you for asking! I do Baggalini, and can find them at places like TJ Maxx. I have a moderately sized pencil case from Lihitlab that is nice, but no straps. My issue is that I can't ever decide on which few things to bring, so I need ALL THE THINGS, so most of the time lately I take a moderately sized black backpack that has pockets and such. I use a 8 x 10 plain illustration board (unwrapped) to tape my work onto. Jet pens has some dreamy options!!

    Great bag Jaclyn! I have sooo many different bags and kits- and I don’t think I have ever brought the exact same kit of stuff along with me twice! It’s an ever evolving process! Your bag is perfect because I can see it functions well and it can tolerate all the changes of things you may add later! I love the detail of being water resistant- I can’t tell you how many times my drinking water bottle has sweat or dripped onto my art stuff… grrrrrr😡!
    It’s a great idea to make it water resistant for so many reasons but for me that’s #1 !

    • @jaclynbaerart
      @jaclynbaerart  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Hannah!! Oh I’m so glad you like the bag and the water resistant fabric. I do too! I’m wanting to make some changes to the next one I sew, so if you have any ideas let me know! But I agree, I also have an ever evolving kit. This is my minimal kit that are the staples. I also like to bring other mediums of art too depending on my mood. 😝 what are some of your staples?

      @@jaclynbaerart my main (basic bag) is a tactical gear bag (small) it holds a mechanical pencil (.05),Tombow mono zero eraser, 2 micron pens (.01,.03), white gel pen, ball point pen (one of those 4 color pens), 1 calligraphy marker, 2 charcoal pencils, 6” ruler, scissors, 5 index cards, and a small sketchbook.
      This kit pretty much remains the same but I do carry a larger sketchbook along most of the time.
      The basic kit gets tossed into any kit I carry- and that’s where the variety comes into play. Sometimes it’s small water color pallets and water brushes, posca pens, Derwent inktense pencils (my newest craze), colored pencils, fountain pens, carand’ache neocolor 2 kit, gouache kits, & acrylic kits, and a plethora of sketchbooks. Also easels, lawn chairs, back packs and pouches, and a 5 gallon bucket (I love the bucket) it had baseballs in it when I bought it- there’s a foamy top on it to sit and it holds all my stuff easily inside it- I use that at home in my own woods, its cumbersome to carry too far- plus I tend to put too much into it because it can hold a lot.
      I tried an oil kit once but…. Nope, I made a mess- I decided unless I can learn to paint more neatly with oils they have to stay in the studio! 😂

    • @jaclynbaerart
      @jaclynbaerart  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wow I love all of that!!!! I like how you have your base kit (pencils, erasers, pens) and then bring along whatever else you are feeling. That's a great way of doing it. And that's awesome you have a big bucket to carry art supplies and have a seat for your woods. That's brilliant!!

    You're really onto something with these new endeavors! the fanny pack looks great & so do the pouches. As a cyclist/artist who gushes over bicycle bags, your aesthetics are right on point with some of the best bag fabricators that I've seen. I can see these doing very well. Good luck with everything.

    I love well-designed and practical bags, and assemble all kinds of kits. Yours are really nice with great craftsmanship.
    Attaching an extra loop for adding a carabiner, or a strong Velcro loop of some sort, might be a great addition.
    And one last idea because I’m down the ADHD rabbit hole now… I hope you don’t mind. What about adding some way to attach your other pouches to the fanny pack? Like a way to mount, snap, or hook them to the back somehow for when you want to take a larger pad of watercolor paper, or sketchbook, etc.

      Thank you so much for your kind words! I have been loving sewing my own bag and love your ideas too. I'll have to play around with the attachment ideas (love that!) on my next one I sew. :) It'll be perfect for the fall and winter projects when I'm indoors more. ha!

    Good job on the bags! A couple of thoughts about your supplies--Liz Stoz has a video about how she both fills her pans and addresses the issue of shrinkage; I don't have the link but I believe it was called something like her five most asked for tips or something like that. She talks about stirring the paint in the pan to reach all the corners and so on, and when they shrink and crack adding a bit of gum arabic, then adding more paint in to fill in the cracks. I've tried it and so far so good, though it's only been a few weeks and they haven't really had much time to dry out. It's no fun when you're out somewhere with no back up and you lose your next color and can't see where it's gone because it's that well matched to what you're painting! Also, you can fix magnet tape to your board and your ArtToolKit will magically stay put without clips as it is both metal and has a magnet on the bottom of it just for such things. I use a similar board and have found that duct tape (the same color of course! :)) keeps the corners from catching and potentially wearing out light plastic coverings or fabrics next to them. Bonus tip--in the UK they have something called a pocket blanket--small squares or rectangles of waterproof ripstop that can be folded and fit into a tiny stuff sack that you can lay down on the ground if you don't want to set up a chair (a log at the beach comes to mind). I just used some from my own sewing adventures and it's great! Nice job on the videos and keep up the good work!

    14:40 💧 You can secure the dry colours with placing a drop of gum Arabic in the bottom. Since watercolours (and gouache) use gum Arabic anyway, the gum does not influence or harm the colour. The soft board is a great idea. I was using an MDF clipboard, but this is much lighter. I might protect the edges with duct tape when I make one. Thanks for the update.

    • @jaclynbaerart
      @jaclynbaerart  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'll have to get some gum arabic, but that makes total sense to secure it and not harm the color. Perfect idea, thank you!!! And I'm glad the lighter weight board is helpful for you, I like the idea of protecting the edges a bit more with tape, great idea!

    Pro tip, instead of repeatedly wetting and resticking paint back to its pa, just use a few drops of Elmer’s glue or craft glue. It wont fall out again and isn’t water soluble so it wont mess with your paint and it can be easily removed when the pan is empty if you want to change colors….
    Hope this helps!!

    Love your set up and the versatility of the pouch. Can it be used as a Crossbody bag rather than around the waist? 6:55 Brushes cannot dry properly if the plastic tube is placed after using. It is only good to secure during transport, when the bristles are covered in protective gum Arabic. Da Vinci (the brush company) sells some mesh covers for brushes, which allow drying and offer good protection. Fun fact: 😂 fanny in the UK is used as slang for the female private parts. I always giggle when I hear someone call their pack like that.

    • @jaclynbaerart
      @jaclynbaerart  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes! You can unclip the strap and make it into a crossbody bag too. In my next one I sew I'll be testing how big of tabs I should make it to make sure the strap fits nicely. :) And thank you for the tip about the plastic tube - I didn't realize!! (also, fanny is such a funny word to begin with, and it's extra funny for the UK audience...I might just call it a bumbag or some other creative word lol)
