    “Is Psychic really that busted?”
    For the early Gens it was *the* most powerful type. They had to make new types just to balance it out for Gold and Silver. It was only dethroned when Fairy Type was introduced in X and Y and some Pokémon types were changed.

      @sterlingmuse5808 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Eh, I think it's been a general slope downwards. Literally overpowered in gen 1, then they added Dark and Steel to counter it in gen 2, then in gen 4 the Physical/Special split hurt them again by making a lot of stuff like Fire moves that they were still able to handle in gen 3 but now can't, etc.

      Yeah, Psychic in gen 1 was basically uncounterably OP considering in the original games its Ghost weakness was actually an immunity instead, Special being one stat to cover Attack and Defense (that would be split in gen 2) meant pretty much every Psychic powerhouse was also a tank and vice-versa, and its only true weakness - Bug - only having incredibly weak moves like Twinneedle or Pin Missile and the stronger Bug types like Scyther not even learning any Bug moves. Not even mentioning how some of the best Psychic types like Alakazam were also fast af and, in gen 1, critical hit chance was actually tied to having higher Speed, so the Psychic sweepers swept even harder.
      The only types to ever even come close to Psychics gen 1 dominance in modern Pokemon was Steel and Dragon, which led to Steel losing some of its resistances (to Ghost and Dark) and Fairy being introduced specifically as the Dragon killer the same way Dark was introduced to hard counter Psychic.

      x/y is a bit late. id say it was in the lower half of typing from gen 4 onwards - it wasnt THE strongest in gen 2 already, and the split made them actually kinda bad. the only meaningful thing theyve had going for them for a while now is theyre the only real hard hitters against fighting types, and those arent known to be too bulky

    If you wanna keep reacting to Alpharad's content (after you do his randomized nuzlocke + Jaiden's final nuzlocke), the solo runs he does with certain Pokemon are also really good. His Mudkip one for Gen 3 is especially popular so I recommend that one.

    Yes you can lose the first trainer battle. In fact it’s actually recommended in Yellow to lose since you can actually control what your rivals Eevee will evolve into based on how many battles you win, lose or skip against them. Losing the first fight makes it a Vaporeon later giving giving your starter Pikachu an advantage. Sadly you can’t do that in a Nuzlocke since the rules kind of lock you into making it a Flareon or Jolteon.

    8:49 This is something you’ve gotta know. Any Pokémon that evolves through an evolutionary stop:
    Gloom->Vileplume
    Poliwhirl->Poliwrath
    Growlithe->Arcanine
    Pikachu->Raichu
    Their evolutions always have worse level up movesets than their pre-evolutions. You usually have to level any of them up to at least level 40 or so before evolving them, that is if you don’t wanna be stuck with Ember as your strongest Fire type move on Arcanine. At that point, you’d have to search the land of Kanto for the tm to teach Flamethrower to it, and there’s other worthwhile things to teach flamethrower’s TM on than Arcanine.

  • @MMAddict39
    @MMAddict39 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    So in regards to Sabrina's fight he firstly was way too under leveled. He wasn't actually playing with any level caps for his team so this was entirely something he could have corrected with a bit of training. As for his strategy in battle he could have just started with Lapras and immediately went with Perish Song, Sabrina had no other Pokemon so it was a guaranteed win since Lapras is a special defense tank and would have lived anything Alakazam could throw at it (before it started building up Calm Minds). He also was playing with items so he could have just kept healing his Lapras and then switch out to Snorlax on the last turn to avoid Perish Song KO'ing him. Another strategy would be to just lead with Snorlax. Snorlax is even tankier than Lapras and could have just muscled his way through Alakazam's pitiful physical defense even though he was so under leveled.
    Him using a Master Ball on Onix didn't actually matter since Onix was his final encounter, he couldn't save it for anything else so he might as well throw it. That being said he really should have kept it and used repels until he got to Moltres to ensure that it would be his encounter instead. This is because Onix is one of the absolute worst Pokémon in the entire game he would have been better off with just about anything else because there is virtually no situation where Onix is actually helpful outside of death fodder.

His other videos are worth watching too, like the one where he plays chess with the guy from Down the Rabbit Hole

  • @itsturniptime3699
    @itsturniptime3699 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So quick explanation
    A ton of Pokémon who evolve via items, like Arcanine, don’t learn good moves when they evolve.
    Growlithe can learn Flamethrower by itself at level 40ish. Arcanine can’t learn Flamethrower without the use of a TM or by already having it as a Growlithe beforehand. This was done to incentivize people to not evolve their Pokémon immediately to not just steamroll the early game.
    Also, concerning the Onix situation, Alpha’s friend thought Onix had Sturdy, which it may have.
    Sturdy is an ability introduced in Generation 3. Since Gen 5, Sturdy makes it so that the Pokémon it is on cannot be killed in one hit and will remain at one HP.
    however, in gens 3 and 4, Sturdy would only protect the holder once from one hit KO moves like Guillotine or Sheer Cold.
    Onix wouldn’t survive because if this, but even if it did, Jynx was going to outspend next turn and kill Onix anyway if it’s Quick Claw didn’t kick in, which it probably wouldn’t.

The *only* main series game I know where it learns moves through leveling is the Hisuian Arcanine from Legends Arceus. Which give the unfortunate implication Arcanine lost the ability to learn new moves after hundreds of years.

    For the evolutionary stone thing, that's well... complicated.
    For Eevee, given its entire gimmick, can and does easily learn new moves through level up. However, other stone evolutions: your Cleffables, Ninetails, Arcanines, Nidos, ect, are more complicated. You CAN learn some moves by level up, but they are either so high (level wise) that they functionally irrelevant, or in that weird pre level 1 gap that requires the move reminder/tutor. Furthermore the moves that CAN be learned through level up are simply not worth grind.

    What should he have done? Used a physical attack with his Arcanine, since not only does Alakazam have naturally low physical defense but high special defense, he also used Calm Mind multiple times, so his special defense (and attack) were boosted to at least twice their normal level. Most likely, Dig would have one shot the Alakazam as Arcanine has high physical attack.

    Love this video! Love doing Nuzlockes 😊 if you do play Fire Red or Leaf Green for a nuzlocke on stream, let this be a small warning... Sabrina is no joke! That is the #1 run ender in this game in my opinion. Do not take her lightly 🤣 also... Good luck and have fun! 😊

      Side note, at that point, Perish song was the right call. You can stop the perish count on your Pokemon by switching it out, but he could have saved more if he did it sooner. There was a lot of changes that could have happened in that fight in particular, but the perish song was the best call.

    You know, since you're getting interested in Nuzlockes, you might wanna consider watching some of Team FourStar's Nuzlockes. They've played several full Nuzlockes on their gaming channel, as well as some other cool stuff worth checking out. The Nuzlockes themselves would be too long to watch for your channel unless you're interested in reacting to 50+ episodes of Pokemon gameplay with commentary from TFS, but a highlight or death compilation would be worth a watch though.

    After you watch the next Jaiden Nuzlocke video, I recommend watching MandJTV’s video, “My First Pokemon Nuzlocke”. It’s not as popular as Jaiden and Alpharad’s Nuzlocke videos, but it’s a good one and deserves more attention.

    I think probably the only thing he probably could have done would be to use dig on it with arcanine because not only is it’s physical attack better than special but not even bite would work because In generation three dark type moves are special and alakazam’s Special defense is slightly better then it’s physical defense
