I’m the complete opposite!Growing my hair out rn to donate it but it’s curly and it’s already way too much to handle. When it’s short I just do a blow out that holds all week until I wash it again
That's how I feel. When my hair is long, I can throw it in a bun in 10 seconds. I suppose you could do ponytails with shorter hair just as quickly but I always found that they pulled.
Just cut and thinned out my daughter’s very long hair yesterday. She wanted 8-10 inches removed. Did exactly as you directed: wet hair, thoroughly combed (no knots or waves), fine sections starting at the nape of the neck, and worked methodically until the entire head was done. Our problem is that we laugh too much and have fun, so we had to take frequent breaks to keep from having a mishap 😂 Another pro tip: KEEP YOUR THINNING SHEARS AND SCISSORS AWAY FROM EACH OTHER!!! Especially if they look similar and you are talking while doing it yourself 🤣 (No, I didn’t screw up and learn that the hard way. Just a helpful hint. lol)
I went from very long hair to short hair, and I have never regret it. But of course, I suggest to go to a professional hairdresser for this big change!
I did that too, was very happy, but 4 yrars latet I started to miss the long hair, started growing them out, but it takes about 3-4 years to go back to my original length, so I am tempted to go short again every tine I go to hairdresser, just to get that excitement of a new short haircut :D wouldn’t do it myself thought, if I am doing sth big and exciting, I want to be really happy about it.
I love watching your videos! I learn a lot, I have long hair but I just get it trimmed because my son is autistic and developmental delayed. He just turned 40 but has the mind of a child. He loves my hair and it would be very difficult for him if I changed it. So I live vicariously through these videos! Thanks!
I'm always so on the fence with these haircutting commentary videos. I find your advice for bleaching at home to be spot on, but as far as what you recommend for haircuts...I'm really not sure if it's replicable for **most** non-hairdressers. I know it sounds easy (and surely feels easy for you!), but as someone who has attempted the "guide piece" method at home and ROYALLY screwed it up (not your fault, ofc😂) vs using the wolf cut technique 10+ times with results that ALWAYS get me compliments....it just puts this nugget of doubt in my head when you (mildly😅) shade other hairdressers who recommend this technique for non-pros. Those creators may not believe this will be ideal, but at least **achievable** and presentable to non-hairdeessers (i.e. most of the population😂). I think ofc this all in the end comes down to hair type/tool type/desired outcome/skill level/individual techniques, etc, but it feels like a nuanced discussion that I would love to see broken down more in a video if you were ever inclined to do so. Just some thoughts - love your vids😊❤
Every haircut I have had has been impulsive BUT... my styles are all punk styles (various shaving and spiking) so "bad haircut" has no meaning to me 😂😂
I've been cutting my hair myself since I was 12 (after a salon messed up really really bad) I still do now but the one thing I tell my friends who want to cut their own hair is to cut it about 2 or 4 inches longer than you want, so you can room for it to be fixed by a professional
This reminds me of one of my 1st jobs when a young lady came in with her 2 cousins, all teens, to get a trim on her waist length hair. They kept telling her to cut just a little more (I could see them giggling with malice) and I kept trying to convince the girl to not do it. I got to a point where I had to say I wasn't comfortable cutting anymore length and I told her to sleep on it & she could come back the next day with her parents if she wanted more off. At that point it was halfway down her back.(Of course, she was leaving town to go back home the next day). That should've been the end of it, BUT she started to get visibly upset and give me attitude and told me that they knew her more and they knew what they were talking about so just listen to them & do it. I gave her the final out & asked her again if she is 100% aware that she's making the decision, on her own, against my professional opinion, but as a customer she had every right to get the cut she wanted on herself. Long story short (hehe) she ends up with hair maybe 2"-3" below her shoulders and has the audacity to be surprised and upset. I'm sure she cried and blamed me for the worst haircut of her life lol. It was a great cut just not what she wanted. Lesson learned.
I will never get hairdressers' obsession with straight lines. Maybe you learned it like that, but not everyone likes it. From my teenage days on I never wanted my very long hair's tips cut off in a straight line. I always told the hairdressers to NOT do that; I wanted a nice V-shape. They still did it. Every single time. Even when I got a short hair cut in the beginning of 2020, I wanted it shorter on top and in the front and a bit longer in the back and I got the very opposite, having a bob cut. I'm not saying that the cut was badly done, it's just absolutely not what I wanted. I started freestyle cutting my own hair around 2 weeks before last Christmas and I finally have the layered, shaggy cut that I always wanted. I'll never go back to a hairdresser, sorry. Not only am I saving a huge amount of money, I also don't have to walk around with a haircut that I don't like. The first girl in the video did a good job in my opinion.
to the second girl: nobody is forcing you... if you have a full blown mental breakdown just thinking of cutting your hair by yourself... eh... maybe it's your sign to NOT DIY your haircut... ... or at least to wait until you're not drunk or high anymore
Hi everyone! Hi HB! I have 2C/3A hair , black with three large poliosis, which I LOVE. I have a matching hair shears/thinning shears that I’ve learned to use over the years. I accidentally grabbed the regular shears and started thinning 😬 Now I’m looking to cut my waist length hair to a collarbone bob and hope it blends. Yes, I’m seeing a professional for this. I look like Joe Dirt. Yay for winter hats 😂
Full disclosure: I gave myself an undercut and a pixie a couple of years ago. Loved how out of the way it was, hated styling it. Now I fight the urge to cut it at all costs lol
Stopped at 8:04 to comment. After work she should go to a salon and get it fixed properly. I have a feeling if she does it herself it will be a lot shorter. 14:01 second girl, stop ✋ go to salon and let them fix! Happy Monday everyone!
I cringe when I see this beautiful long hair cut mostly because I'm trying so hard to grow mine long. I'm thinking even so, she could have donated her hair and had a nice professional cut.
Who else is watching this after cutting their hair? Beginners never pull all your hair forward to cut it do it in sections because the back will be V shaped and longer and make sure to keep scissors straight for thick hair I put it in 5 sections. Thanks Buddha you always make my day 🥰
I cut my hair myself following a DIY made with ponytails by a hairdresser. It's like a pizza sectioning. However it's a shag not something that needs to be this precise. My hair is wavy/curly and it works fine for me. There are plenty DIYs explained by hairstylists and I've never effed it up.
I basically did that last week (cut it to a little bit under my collarbones). Been really unhappy with my long hair for a long time. I was growing it out since 2019 but lost half of it in 2022 because of covid. It grew back long but ends still seemed like they remember ''covid time'' also 2022 was literally the worst year of my life due to some personal reasons. I decided to cut that hair off to let go of that year and forget about it once and for all. I wear my hair up in a bun all the time anyway so i won't notice the length difference that much (i was unhappy with it to the extend that i refused to wear it down). I will try again after 2-3 months when it grows back to the length i want.
How to cut hair at home: Step 1 - use the ponytail technique guaranteed not to work Step 2 - faff about point cutting which does nothing to fix it Step 3 - go to the salon to fix it which is what you should have done in the first place 👍
First one looks okay. Obviously not professional or neat, but it's alright. I think shoulders might have been better, but it looks fine. Second one, obviously it looks chunky and, blunt, but again, not totally terrible.
While that second girl was scared and nervous and whatever, the first cut was good because everything below needed to go. I agree that she should have waited a few days to get used to the length before cutting again. The shorter you cut, the more noticeable that back part is . Also, people, cut WET, brush/comb smooth, before you put in the pony holder if that's how you're insisting to do it. Also, while it's still a bad idea to pony cut, if you put the pony more to the back of your head, like behind your ear, and cut it without bringing it forward to in front of your ear, you'll have less to fix later.
Last August I went from long hair in the middle of my back to full on pixie above the ears. It was really freeing and I feel like I have more style now. I always had my hair in a pony tail or knot to now I actually style my hair. The good news is that it only take 5 minutes to do😊
HB, HELP!! I have shoulder length, wavy to slightly curly hair. Growing up and in my teen years, it was short and it looked good. But i always wear my hair in ponytails, and it has that bump in it from that. How do i get used to liking long hair and what is a good cut/trim style that looks good with wavy hair? As low maintenance as possible. I'm trying to like my hair long down but i always put it in a ponytail and like you said, I'm used to that. I'm at a crossroads and don't know what to do. I'm considering cutting it all short again especially because i live in the Phoenix Arizona heat, but i really want to try and let it grow long and pretty and get used to having long hair. I made it last summer without cutting it off and I'm really unsure what to do, i want to keep growing in but a part of me wants to cut it short again. 🙏🏼❤
I've cut my waist length hair so many time, I can't even remember how many time. But everytime if it's shorter than my jawline I would go to a hair salon to cut it. And I can confirm that cutting your hair yourself is never easy, specially the back but once you have a clear view of your back it's not impossible.
So many people think short hair is low maintenance … it’s not ‼️. It needs to be styled as opposed to just scraping it up in a bun , and you became a slave to the salon if you want to keep it neat and tidy . Long haired gals proceed with caution ⚠️
You need to style it if you care what it looks like 😅 I've shaved my hair a few times in the past when I couldn't deal with taking almost an hour to wash it and dry it and to me it was low maintenance until it was long again because I never cared about styling it or keeping it short 😂
@@alicegaiba LOL 😂. Good for you 👍🏻. I’m one of those people that if my hair does not look right it ruins my day 🤦🏻♀️ I suffer from female pattern baldness so it’s particularly difficult to get it looking good . I would love to buzz it all off TBH but can’t quite pluck up the courage .. yet ‼️
I am a natural copper-like strawberry blonde. I made as a student big mistake going black. Coloring destroyed my scalp and the structure of my hair. People, please listen to experts. This what people do in these videos is certain mental damage. A self-hate.
I've cut my long hair twice to the bob, but always with hairdresser's help. It was fun and I liked my hair so much. I don't understand, why do you cut it if you feel such a negative emotions. It's much better to go to the salon with good hairdressers and get your dream haircut nice and clear.
I never understand why people do this, in some places in England you can get a dry trim for as little as £20. If you want to cut off your hair and nothing else, just go to a hairdresser.
Exactly. You don't have to get the full works with an award winning stylist. Also, colleges that do beauty/hairdressing courses and larger salons offer "model" appointments. A student or trainee will do the cut under supervision. It's only around £10 to £15 in my area, and I live in an expensive region.
@siangriffiths3691 so true, I've got curly hair so every 4 months I straighten it, go and get a dry trim. It use to cost me £12 pre covid but now it costs £20 which I'm fine with. What baffles me is people will spent 200quid on a pair of trainers or a grand on a phone but then want to be cheap on something they've got to walk around with on a daily basis on their head 🤔. Doesn't make sense!
They always say its only hair and how it will grow back right before they mess it up. Bless her it's not bad as a hairdresser I've seen worse, she looked like she wanted to cry
HB, would you ever tell someome if someone DIDNT have a face for short hair? 😅 "Ma'am, you should NOT do that." Short short hair makes me look like someone from Deliverance. Could you give us some advice on what to look for to tell what will look good on ourselves? Ive seen professionals who couldn't cut hair this well. Lol
Cutting hair - few seconds/minutes Growing up hair .... years I had my hair fried by bleach, cut after taking off black and now when growing them back (had waist long beautiful black dyed hair which I was growing back almost 3 years) I am never going back to bleaching, cutting. I remember my mom lost her hair during chemotherapy (got back but 1/10 of what she had, the most important that she is alive) and she was always saying "hair are never just hair, you can't be sure that they will grow back". For me hair are like obsession.
I've gone from long to short a couple of times and donated my hair each time. First time I didn't realize how long my hair was until I measured it. 18 inches of virgin hair! My hair dresser asked a few times if I was sure about cutting it. I did look good with a bob, but short hair is too frustrating for me. The self hair cuts weren't bad. The second girl's hair looked much better once the ends were off. Both of these dears need to step away from the scissors and visit the salon. ❤
4:47 why not just go to a salon and donate, if you got so much and so strong hair?! I got ONE of those ponytails combined. That's an amount you can cut yourself..but I never dared. I tried once, couldn't see nothing and so I didn't cut it at all Edit: I mean... You can still cut it yourself in the salon. Just for the feeling of it an some footage. But the hero with the scissors is there to fix it😂
My hair is shiny and thick, and my hairdresser says in very good condition. It is straight cut around the bottom and the only hairdresser services I get is colour every 3-4 months, I have a few greys I like to cover but I also get a treatment. My hair reaches down to my buttocks now and I only need about 1-2 cm trimmed off the ends at my appointment. My secret is a really good shampoo and conditioner once a week and a good shampoo once a week followed by an Oleplex mask which also acts as my conditioner. I swear by this.
I’m a fairly new subscriber and I enjoy your videos so much. They make me laugh and I learn something each video. I have naturally curly hair and I can say at the age of 61 I get compliments on it all the time. I’ve learned from you that I need to be gentle with it and make sure I keep it moisturized. Thank you for that advice. 😊
Oh my...that last "okay, okay, okay, oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh" girl...I could not take more than approximately 60 seconds of her! What an annoying person.😊
Love the videos…but one quick English lesson …. hairdresser language CUT, there is no ‘cutted’ I, you, he, she, they, we CUT hair past tense…to be (is, are, am) CUTTING…CUT is also an adjective that CUT hair [as in hair that has been cut] 👍 and now back to the video….or as a profession people CUT hair
Pony technique works ok, but you need right pony technique. Not two or more ponytail, but only one, proper hair band and sharp scissors. And always cut along the rubber band and not above it! I cut myself almost nine years now and I love it how easy this is and how much I have my hair under control :) This tutorial work for me very well in 0:30 :) th-cam.com/video/kgYVImOwYiI/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=PatryJordanEnglish

I will never understand the people that cut their own hair right before having to be somewhere. That is tempting fate way too much for me 😂
When it's long I can just tie it up but when it's short, I've got to style it to leave the house and not scare small children.
Depends how short🤪
I'm the same. It's much easier for me to keep it long. I'm lazy

"Look at my short hair" hair: 5 inches past the shoulders

And I can confirm that cutting your hair yourself is never easy, specially the back but once you have a clear view of your back it's not impossible.
So many people think short hair is low maintenance … it’s not ‼️. It needs to be styled as opposed to just scraping it up in a bun , and you became a slave to the salon if you want to keep it neat and tidy . Long haired gals proceed with caution ⚠️
You need to style it if you care what it looks like 😅
I've shaved my hair a few times in the past when I couldn't deal with taking almost an hour to wash it and dry it and to me it was low maintenance until it was long again because I never cared about styling it or keeping it short 😂
@@alicegaiba LOL 😂. Good for you 👍🏻. I’m one of those people that if my hair does not look right it ruins my day 🤦🏻♀️ I suffer from female pattern baldness so it’s particularly difficult to get it looking good . I would love to buzz it all off TBH but can’t quite pluck up the courage .. yet ‼️
It takes such a long time to grow long hair I could not do it
I am a natural copper-like strawberry blonde.
I'll tell you what...one good thing social media has done is put the revenue for hair stylists up due to the multitude of fixes that are required
Si totalmente, a mi muchas veces me ayudaba mi madre de 70 años, yo no me veía detrás y lo hacia mejor que yo usando 3 espejos
I have always had long hair. I would like for you to do my hair
1. Get yourself a hair guru.
2. Don’t be impulsive.
3. Don’t cut or color/bleach your own hair. See #1 and #2 above.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
They always say its only hair and how it will grow back right before they mess it up.
Bless her it's not bad as a hairdresser I've seen worse, she looked like she wanted to cry
You were in the sun Hair Buddha?! Your bread is so light. The gingerness got blond...ish
Lol
Cutting hair - few seconds/minutes
Growing up hair .... years
I had my hair fried by bleach, cut after taking off black and now when growing them back (had waist long beautiful black dyed hair which I was growing back almost 3 years) I am never going back to bleaching, cutting.
I could never cut my hair myself
Good morning HB ☕️
Good Morning
It’s always a good thing to stay on your meds .
Never fails to make me laugh that the products listed are hats… to cover the hair fails 😂
9:52, look at the shade of red on her face😊, she hates it!
4:47 why not just go to a salon and donate, if you got so much and so strong hair?!
I got ONE of those ponytails combined. That's an amount you can cut yourself..but I never dared. I tried once, couldn't see nothing and so I didn't cut it at all
Edit: I mean...

That last girl was too annoying to watch. If she didn't wanna do it, don't do it?!
I cut myself almost nine years now and I love it how easy this is and how much I have my hair under control :)
This tutorial work for me very well in 0:30 :)

Do people not own mirrors, so they can look at the back of their heads??????😂
She needs to stop and see a professional and have them fix it. It's not as expensive as coloring
