Interesting to see footage of the oval when it was just 2 years old (There was another oval before the war, but the present one was built in 1955). I recentely visited the Monza Oval and filmed also a kind of onboard, but then with a bicycle :)

I have been there to a few years back. Me and my father went there to visit the track and we could just walk on the oval part and the part where the races are hold on these days. Its a real shame that the state of the oval track was pretty bad when I visited. Trees fallen over the track, grass growing trough and bad maintenance... such a shame...

That's a sport-racer Bentley from the 1920's-early 1930's. The F1 cars in 1957 were much, much faster, and just about to go rear-engined. They were seriously fast even then.

@@maxrudder6091 Mm. When the Indy racers went to Monza for the 500-mile race that year, the pole time was just over 177mph. It wasn't until Peter Revson in 1971 that they were lapping faster on the flatter, tighter Indy track.

They’d run the front stretch twice in one lap. There were cones separating it down the middle.
You’d exit parabolica and you’d be on the right side of the front stretch and you’d head onto turn 1 of the oval.
When you came off turn 4 of the oval you’d be on the left side of the oval and you’d head down to curve grande to start the road course.

I believe that in 1957, the Monza oval was used for an event called "Race Of Two Worlds", in which Indianapolis-type cars raced against Formula 1 cars.
Since Indy cars could only turn left, both the Indy cars and F1 cars ran counter-clockwise.
Supposedly, the fastest F1 car finished behind all of the Indianapolis-type cars that finished the race.

Altrimenti come ?

I realize this is coming in late, but the full race course with the oval was used in the Sports Car International Championship of Makes in the 1960s; with the race length being 1000 km; or 100 laps. Imagine driving a Porsche 908 or a Ford GT 40 for 1000 km with being on that banking for 100 laps; of course, the race had a two-driver tandem.
The oval was no longer used for the sports car races in the 1970s.

Ciao Fabrizio

nascar cars are designed to race on ovals, F1 cars are very fast ND designed for cornering, it would be unsafe

The patchwork paving is a sham to have drivers going so fast. I wouldn't want to drive my Mazda van on the rough pavement. There's a 1966 video of Monza oval that shows the difference in the cars & the track (much better) here:

That footage you linked is from a movie and it was made 10 years after this.

As a motorcyclist would love to see how Formula 1 would deal with this kind of circuit layout…of course they couldn’t …
