      I completely agree. I rarely comment but this is absolutely fascinating. Thanks. I'm going to subscribe in hopes of seeing more educational, classic footage of motorsport. I dig your narration, research and thoughts giving the rarely seen films some insightful context. Just a real down to earth relaxed voice. Shout-out ourafilmes from Seattle WA. ✌️

    My Canadian dad worked for Englebert Tires between 1957 and 1963. We lived in Spa itself, which is a few Kms to the north. My brother and I attended every F1 race during those years and had access to the Engelbert Tower and paddock area. We were there when Stacey and Bristow were killed and also when Moss had his awful accident. I was just a kid, between 8 and 14 years old ... this is bringing back vivid memories.
    I went back two years ago to check it out. There was some sort of Porsche race going on but nothing serious.
    Thank you!

    One small nit-pick, Jo Bonnier's crash in 1966 as shown in the footage from Grand Prix, is the actual aftermath of the real accident, not a recreation. The film crews were actually at the Belgian GP that year to film footage for the movie, they were filming the start of the race when the now famous rainstorm took place. The chaos the cameras captured was included in the film, because it's amazing footage.

    This is the best track documentary I've ever seen, and I watch every one that I can find!
    The sheer quantity (and quality) of period specific photos and film must have taken forever to assemble. The track tour using multiple films, windows, photos, and little pop up info items was wonderful. I know I'm sounding hyperbolic, but I know how much work, thought and editing that it must have taken.
    Your love of the track really shows, and the little tidbits of information along with historical comparisons of the track layout using postcards, and overhead views from what must have been very primitive aircraft.. well, it's amazing. Where on Earth did you look for all your visuals?
    Then, you do a great job of maintaining the historical flow of the story. I could go on and on. Very well done! Naturally, I'm a new subscriber, and thank you so much.
    PS: Thank you for NOT imposing the obligatory musical sound track. Your narration was right on, understandable, and very enjoyable.

      WOW! Many thanks for your very detailed comment my friend! To finish this, it took me more than 1 month working 12 hours a day on it. But, unfortunately, I had to remove about 7 minutes because of copyright issues that I could not avoid.
      I learned my lesson so I tried a different approach on the Monza video also because there is a lot of footage for that track as the Italians always were crazy for racing.
      I have 2 jobs so sometimes it is a bit of apian to work on these after work...
      Thanks for watching and for your nice words.
      Cheers from Portugal!

    Spa is synonymous with this man, he won there four times in a row - JIM CLARK - By far the greatest driver ever - no doubt. He is and was "The Best of the Best" (Fangio and Senna about Clark). No other driver in history until today was so superior as Clark - No other driver as so much "Grand Slam" - Pole/Win/Fastest Lap/Leading every lap of the race - like him. And all that from just 72 starts... !
    This man is the Olymp of driving - the Michelangelo of racing - a dynamic art at the highest level. So smooth, so precise, so fast....simply out of this world. One, who won in Spa by 5 minutes (!) in monsoon rain with only one hand at the wheel (!) because of gearbox trouble...One, who takes back a complete lap (!) in Monza and back into the lead... One, who took pole on the original 22,8 km Nürburgring track by 9 (!) seconds and more....One who won Indy by 2 whole (!) laps...For eternity and by lightyears unmatched in the sport. That`s just four examples of his mesmeric unique genius...

    • @ourafilmes
      @ourafilmes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like Jim Clark but he hated Spa, as far as I know. True, he had impressive numbers but he was too clean for my taste! I prefer crazy and extravagant drivers like Nuvolari. Thanks for your input.

    • @guydavies3035

      @@ourafilmesJim Clark hated Spa, because his friend Archie Scott Browne died in Clark’s first race there. Scott Brown must have been an amazing man. He was born disabled due to rubella. He needed multiple operations on his legs to be able to walk, and only had one hand! But he was quite a driver apparently.

    Thanks for this video. I'm from Belgium in origin and I love this circuit - my favorite one in race simulation. I knew of course an older and longer circuit. I knew of an interruption of F1 in the middle of the 70's the circuit considered to dangerous and the Belgian GP taken place in Zolder - which ended with the death of Giles Villeneuve and the circuit of Francochamps rebuilt. But I knew very few of the details of the history. this video had filled many gaps and must have taken quite some time and a lot of effort in finding footage. So thanx for making this

Starting in the mid sixties till the late nineties I was at Francorchamps for F1 Grand Prixs, the Spa 1000 sports cars & prototypes and of course the Spa 24 hours touring car races, I don't know how many times. What great days they were. You did such a splendid job expelling the track's evolution with the limited footage available. Keep it up. The F1, sports car, and other motorsport drivers who did this track (and others) back in the pre-safety era are truly a totally different breed of human being. I started watching F1 back in 1958 & never been to a GP but will always love the sport & watching this type of video makes everything memorable to us all.. because in those days drivers were real drivers... @ourafilmes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Glad you enjoyed it! I have a playlist with more videos like this - check the description. Mate, to me, Tazio Nuvolari was the best driver of all time and by far! After a big crash he escaped from the hospital by fooling the doctors and took a taxi to do the GP on the spare car to finish 7th; winning a motorcycle race with both legs broken and plastered; winning the German GP of 35 with an outdated car with 100hp less - an impossible task; the only driver who could handle properly the Auto-Union rear engine car; being 50s, very sick and still leading the Mille Miglia and being 27 minutes in front of the other Ferrari, and so on... Only a World War could stop him! They don´t make them like this anymore!!! Cheers from Portugal!

      Modern TV-based F1 would absolutely hate Jim Clark. His usual method of winning a race would be to get pole position and then after the race start, motor off into the distance leaving the rest of the field behind, and set the fastest lap along the way. Didn't he win one Belgian GP be something like 4 minutes and in his famous 1965 Indy 500 win by two complete laps?

    What a brilliant video so much work to compile, I remember the late 60's onwards and I was always in awe of this circuit with the speeds, the rapid changes of weather and the appalling accident statistics. Like the original Nurburgring Nordschleife, these two circuits are legendary and reward and punish in equal measures.

    Thank you very much for presenting such an excellent video. Your commentary is eloquent and easy to listen to. Your knowledge of racing is extensive. I liked the section withe split screen showing the same parts of the circuit in different years. It is sad that racing loses so many drivers for as many diverse reasons as there are people who drive.

    • @ourafilmes
      @ourafilmes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that! Since that release I found out that they organised some Seaman Trophys (motor races) in the 60s so I was glad that the British ended recognising him as a great english historic racer and not messing about the war and his career. It´s not the drivers fault that the nationalists are in power during their racing career...

Not races but more of running old cars and bikes round in a sensible pace. Thank´s for the fantastic film You have produced.

    This is a marvellous documentary and includes much rare vintage footage so the author must have invested a lot of time in research to source all the material. Spa has always been my favourite circuit on which to drive a race car and you don't perceive how steep the hills are when you watch film footage. It's still a favourite circuit with current GP drivers so let's hope the governing bodies don't get too greedy for cash and award the 2023 race slot to an obscure, characterless track in the Middle East or Asia just because they bid more money.

    Incredible job! Great editing... I visite the 24h of Spa every year. You have excess to all spots and coverde areas. F1 races are very expensive and harder to watch on a good spot. I only visit it on friday and saterday. I prefer to see the race on TV. It's one of the most epic circuits in the world, that's for sure. If you are around, do visit the museum of the Spa circuit in Stavelot.

    Once again your story telling has kept me in silent awe as you bring to life the ghosts of the past. i know many real drivers and many fans of motorsports , but i know maybe 2 or 3 others who have that understanding and passion that goes beyond the average , reaching heights only eagles as you are , dare to fly. Bravo amigo.. Question , would you be interested in a bit of live commentary, for a Gt3 race ? its a group of over 50 year old drivers , guys who probably fit right in your demographics. i would love to have the Mistro of Motorsports sit down for a chat over a race .. let me know and i can provide all my details and more information , cheers and again WOW i feel like ive just walked out of a time machine..

      Man, many thanks for your nice words. Really nice to read. Look, I am a really busy man. I have 2 jobs and other occupations like doing these videos. On one of them, I am 24H on call as I run my family business and I am the "firefighter" - they call me when I least expect to solve difficult issues or maintenance... I can´t commit to a particular schedule because of that. Another thing is... LIVE... man I have no confidence whatsoever in doing those and that is the reason why you don´t find any live videos in this channel... I like to prepare things, do my homework and work deep in the post-production. These videos really take time and effort so live... it´s a bit daunting for me, if you understand my words. Many thanks but I think I will pass, this time, at least. Cheers from Portugal.

    Great Video, so glad you mentioned Steffan Bellof, he could have been World Champion, I met him once, nice chap. There was a recent crash at Spa in the Formula W race this year, luckily nobody was seriously hurt. Still the best circuit in the World.

      Hi Robin. This video was released before this year crashes. Bellof was, as far as I know, the only fatality on Eau Rouge/Radillon while it was in its old configuration (but a bit enlarged). Now they made it a kink and the crazy crashes don´t stop...
