This episode made me understand why Moxxie had reservations about murdering a family and or why he would've been okay with killing a mob family and it makes me think that his dad might be the reason why Moxxie became an assassin to begin with, Not to become his dad but so Moxxie can kill those that are like his dad.

I remember when I first saw this episode, I was a little disappointed that Moxxie didn’t break himself out and show what a badass he is. But you’re right, Moxxie doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone, because he already had his badass moment when he openly defied his father. Millie willing to kill the entire mob was just proof at how far Moxxie had come to have the love and support of those closest to him.

    • @sampepper7682

I agree. Plus Moxxies dad is still alive and I think Moxxie will have another time he has to face him but Moxxie is starting to grow and overcome his trama and defy his father and Millie just showed how she will support him no matter what

    • @AH-is5yg
      @AH-is5yg ปีที่แล้ว +16

@@sampepper7682 Yeah as for Moxxie, in order for him to really put his past behind him and for Crimson to leave Moxxie alone for good is for Moxxie to beat Crimson in a fight. In the future episode, Moxxie will have to face Crimson in a shoot out. During the fight, Crimson will see how good Moxxie is and not wanting to lose to his son. Crimson starts to fear Moxxie. Crimson shows his true colors when he's in a fight. He will cheat and taunt him for being weak and also mention how Crimson enjoy killing his mother. This will throw Moxxie off for a bit until he gets help from Mille, IMP and/or he remembers what his mother taught him. If his mother shows up in flashback and gives him the encouragement and a lesson that Moxxie holds dear, Moxxie can overcome it and finally beat his dad. Moxxie defies his father and disowns his father. Crimson lost control for good. If Moxxie kills him or not, Crimson loses. By defeating his father, he will finally put his past behind him.
I think the upcoming episodes of Moxxie and Millie fighting Striker and other missions he and IMP are going to toughen Moxxie up and get better.

    • @helsmify
      @helsmify ปีที่แล้ว +6

Don't know if I agree with that. It's not about proving anything to Moxxie, it's about knowing his father, knowing that the minute he defended himself, he should've known his father would do something to keep him in line. Getting sneak attack also undermines his "you'll see how skilled I am" line. Should've shot the shark in the face to prove his point and leave. I'd exchange Millie's badass moment for Moxxie just walking away, sometimes less is more.

Therefore, Moxxie's mom's actions (especially at the shooting range) explain her open defiance despite potentially knowing the consequences that would follow. Maybe not defiant in combat, but still so in other ways.

One thing people somewhat overlooked that I'm surprised no one noticed:
Moxie has admitted he is pegged by millie sometimes...meaning millie loves him for who moxie is. Moxie clearly does like the male/male relationships, and he's clearly submissive.
Meaning millies pegging isn't just a funny joke, she is actively letting Moxie feel COMFORTABLE with who he is

Her parents supported her and hoped that she would make it big in the Upper Rings. While part-timing and doing some gigs in small time theaters, Moxxie's Mom somehow met her future husband... And would end up and what could be an unhappy marriage. But not before giving birth to the most wonderful imp that you wanna protect!

There are enough odd lines from earlier episodes - like joking about the mafia, dreaming about his parents being killed - that just don't jibe with this exact story. It's amazing and I see how it fits in broad strokes, but it also feels like a bit of a retcon.

If It was an actual Oedipus Complex, He would be married to his mother, and have no idea it was his mother. People are attracted to men/women who remind them of their parents, not so much in physical appearance as in personality, because our relationships with our parents are one of three invironmetal influences that guide someone through their romantic/sexual/platonic relationships later on.

    • @-alovelygaycat-
      @-alovelygaycat- ปีที่แล้ว

An Oedipus Complex would be him having the hots for his mom as a child, not being attracted to someone with similar traits in his adult life.
“Oedipus complex, in psychoanalytic theory, a desire for sexual involvement with the parent of the opposite sex and a concomitant sense of rivalry with the parent of the same sex[…]” (Britannica, last updated April 19th, 2023).
What is being described can be better attributed to one of two theories.
      1. A person who lost a beloved parent seeking out someone who reminds them of said parent as a way to ‘have their parent back’
      2. A person finding the qualities of their parent attractive in other people because the parent is familiar, and people are attracted to things that are familiar.
Or Moxxie just finds Millie, a strong-headed woman, attractive because she compliments his shyer and less violent demeanor.

Moxxie coldly reminds Crimson of his promise, his threat before taking out Crimson's bodyguards one by one. Then we zoom out to kilometer or mile out where Moxxie is perched atop some building or something, with the Carmine-Crafted Blessing-Tipped Rifle that used to belong to Striker. The last shot he we see is Crimson through the targeting scope, between the crosshairs, panicking, completely out of control of the situation, at the mercy of someone he thought of as *weak*, as a "*sissy*," before cut-to-black in time with one last crack of a gunshot.

(please read the whole thing it seems abit lacking in evidence at the start but deeper into the comment it becomes more clear) Not a big complaint with Helluva Boss, just something that makes me concerned for the future of the show is the fact that it introduces soooooooooo many enemies and antagonists to the series, in episode 2 it introduces fizzoralli and Blitz's backstory with him which does not set him up as a main villain or antagonist but does pose himself as a reccuring character that is against blitz, in episode 3 a similar thing happens with Verosica where she is set up as someone that is against blitz, then what is abit more looser is the Cherubs in episode 4, they were angry at IMP and then got kicked out of heaven and abandoned in the living world so where it goes with them is unclear but again sets up someone who is angry at the group and may reappear, then the strongest point of evidence all the other ones being weak, is the introduction of Striker who wants to kill stolas and is set to return later on in season 2 possibly episode 4 , Striker is 100% intended to be the main villain so why then in episode 6 would they introduce a second "main" villain in the form of the agents who want to actively shut down IMP and stop them, then in episode 7 they further the fizzoralli and verosica plots however I dont think Fizz and Verosica will lead to any big conflict that affects the whole group like striker and the agents do, anyway finally is Season 2 episode 3 where Moxxies father is now against IMP. So in conclusion I am abit worried about the future of the series as they are setting up so many villains that are against IMP and actively want to kill them and I think it may hurt the show if they do not have enough time to properly devolop the antagonists as they have 3 people who seem like big reccuring enemies and then 3 others that are smaller enemies but still are against IMP/Blitz. But I do think they are making a good direction by making striker return and not setting up another villian. again this is not something that ruins the show for me this is a just a small thing that makes me worried for the future of the show. Thanks to whoever read this :)

That’s a very good point! If it helps, I’m fairly confident that Fizz and Verosika aren’t necessarily “lethal enemies”.
See, I don’t know what happened b/w the actual Fizz and Blitz but it seems like a case of jealousy as both of them were in the show business and perhaps wanted to reach the absolute peak of it. While Fizz was the one made it to the top, Blitz couldn’t and ultimately felt abandoned by it.
We’re pretty aware of why Verosika hates Blitz but I doubt she or her gang would straight up murder him or I.M.P. The only reason they’d have anything against Moxxie, Millie or Loona b/c they’re connected to Blitz.
What Blitz did was awful, and it’s a bit of a tired/used excuse, their demons in Hell. Worse things have probably happened to her and in comparison, sees Blitz as that shitty ex you’ll annoy/screw over if it’s “doable” and completely ignore otherwise.
Also, given that Fizz and Verosika are huge celebrities, they have much more important matters/priorities.
P.S. I’m also 50/50 on the Cherubs situation. They’ve been in the human world for a while, lack Heaven’s support and are, presumably, smart enough to know how screwed they are. They would want to kill I.M.P. but would need the time and resources to do so, which could take quite a while.

I think it also contextualize a lot of character detail that are important:
    - Moxxie is shown to understand and care more about the financial side of IMP more than any of the others. Likely given how important money is shown to the mob family
    - it’s also why while being only okay he care more about logistics and plans for killing more than the free for all Millie and Blitzø tend to have
    - Moxxie’s self reserved, known anxiety, and high strung attitude clear come from having to walk on egg shells extending from an abusive family. While Blitzø trauma and abuse made him more rough around the edges, Moxxie’s made him more of a doormat and hyper aware to the aspects around him
    - The childhood also likely left him wanting a lot of validation from peers and likely Blitzø from his constant mocking and belittling, I think something that the most recent camp ep started to show with how he tried to act with the students and leading his first solo planning mission.

I think the only way for Moxxie to really put his past behind him and for Crimson to leave Moxxie alone for good is for Moxxie to beat Crimson in a fight. In the future episode, Moxxie will have to face Crimson in a shoot out. During the fight, Crimson will see how good Moxxie is and not wanting to lose to his son. Crimson starts to fear Moxxie.

He should've shot his Dad's horn and or arm off. That way Crim can still be a villain and Moxxie gets his lick in hehe

I love how you use warrior cats as an example. I absolutely love warriors and I believe that it gave the abuse victims more choice to deal with their abuser. Again with squirrelflight going against bramble star. She could’ve not done that but chose to be herself instead of letting her abuser control her. But with moxxie, he doesn’t even get to stand up to his dad besides the one moment he gets upset with him. In all honesty I do love the millie representation but I’d rather we get a whole episode for just millie(many others think so too!) this episode was about moxxie so I feel we should’ve seen HIM talk back to his dad in the end and show him how he feels about it.

What I like about Chaz’s reaction to Moxie getting his leg caught, is that the episode never clarifies if he was distraught because his lover got caught, or if his ticket into the mafia got caught. It could be either, but given everything else we see from him, I’m inclined to lean towards the ladder.

Now while Moxxie doesn’t need violence to prove his worth he can definitely bring in a body count when motivated to do so. In Truth Seekers I counted at least 42 DHORK Agents that Moxxie killed, and that’s just from the on screen kills(plus implied kills based on his gun shots) and the bodies beneath him while he kept shooting, so yeah Moxxie can be pretty deadly when he wants to be

We used to think Valentino was the most evil character Vivzie made...well right now Crim is fighting him for that spot. Kind of makes you forget the "villain" part of villain protagonist when it comes to Moxxie

Also I want to note that a lot of people have wondered if Moxxie’s cheek marks were scars or freckles of some kind, and now we can DEFINITELY say that they’re decorative scarring, given his up upbringing.
And the fact that he had them as a very young child means it probably wasn’t a decision he made.

If Millie parents find out Moxie's father is. They would be in shock. And be real surprised that Moxie survived their pain

This episode, hanes down, elevated Moxxie from a character I enjoyed to my second favorite character in all of Hell. Being able to have, arguably, the worst backstory out of the main cast and still be one of the most well-adjusted characters is honestly kind of inspiring. The absolute fucking joy I felt for him when he threatened to kill Crim for threatening Millie was indescribable

12:17 Hes shitty but i love his design, his voice, and his looks. Hes just a dominant little man who I oddly wanna see more of, if you catch my drift. His horns are sharper and bigger then moxxie's, his suit is great, and so is his tail. His tail looks broken but interesting.

I've just noticed, in the episode Exes and Ohhs a big deal is made of Moxxie and Chazz reaching for the same grenade, well in the credits of the Helluva Boss Pilot storyboards of Moxxie singing to Millie have him presenting a grenade to her like an engagement ring; thematically (and potentially retroactively depending on how far you feel they planned all this) Millie is shown wholeheartedly embracing the love Chazz was indifferent to.

I enjoy your analysis vids a lot! I really loved your point about Moxxie wanting to identify more with Wrath culture since his mom is from there and his few fond memories of childhood are linked to her over his abusive father, but that culture doesn't accept him. He doesn't fit the standard. He doesn't fit the standard in Greed either, but his skills are more appreciated and valued there, so in a sense he "fits in *enough*". It adds a layer of complexity because he still tries to use the skills he has and enjoys versus become someone he isn't in spite of struggling to find acceptance/a home. I think his character is not trying to fit in or at least moving in that direction, he's trying to find a family that accepts who he is as a person. Another reason he likely fell in love with Millie. She also accepted he had his own way of doing things that didn't align with the standards she grew up with but she still loved him for who he was. There are aspects of their relationship that are very healthy and there's plenty of conflict they deal with that isn't relying on the crutch of miscommunication issues, which I appreciate. I also hope Millie gets her chance in the spotlight soon. I think this show struggles with the issue of having an ensemble cast full of many interesting characters and we don't have time to delve into them all, but from a writer's POV Millie is getting the unnecessary short end of the stick here. Of all the characters to miss the mark on fleshing out, she's too much of a main character for it to be reasonable to not explore her depth more.

I’m curious what people thought of the scene before the wedding when Crimson has clearly poured coffee for Moxie and set aside a seat at the table for him, pointedly warning off Chaz.
Don’t get me wrong, Crimson is the irredeemable worst but is this his fucked up idea of a nice gesture or more a typical abuser thing, where they intersperse the cruelty with seeming acts of kindness to keep the victim off balance and gaslight them?
Or the coffee was drugged but honestly, it seemed like he was pretty confident he had Moxie cowed.

So many reactors kept confusing the imp Moxxie had to kill was his mother when it was a male. Bigger horns which was black and white, and the tail was also different. The mother was already dead and just wanted to show her shoe to show where she unfortunately went! ☠️

*Moxxie has mostly changed for the better during his adult years compared to his youth when he was trained to be part of the mafia and the loss of his mother. Though he has been through a lot he still manages to cope in different ways that make his life a bit easier. But there are still parts of himself that are still inflicted on him due to the terror he went through before meeting Blitzo*

I love positive and healthy Moxxie is with Millie in contrast to his father. Crimson treated his wife as a tool to bring a son into the family and raise him to be his minion, the two clearly didn’t have any chemistry considering how protective Moxxie’s mum is of him as a kid and how much she flinches at any sort of advancement Crimson makes on her. Meanwhile, Millie and Moxxie are open about their emotions for the most part, with Moxxie only hiding himself away when he thinks it’s beneficial for both of them and then learns to try and be more open and honest for the sake of their relationship. Crimson would never learn such a thing, he’s just an evil little imp with only money and power on his mind.
A great example of Moxxie and Millie’s relationship in contrast to Crimson’s is right at the start of the newest episode when Millie’s upset and freaking out. Moxxie doesn’t cower in fear or run away from the situation or force Millie into calmness, he listens to what’s bothering her and let’s her vent her frustrations healthily. If Moxxie’s wife were to ever get that upset, Crimson would simply argue with her and hit her and then just have her killed by his mafia associates because he can’t stand to feel inferior to anybody. The characters of Helluvaboss are so well thought out and detailed, it’s so fun looking in their backstory and growth to see the hidden details of their lives

Actually if u look at the tail in the whole episode, it’s not his mom. She has dots on her tail and the imp that is on the boat has stripes that she doesn’t have. I think another yt channel has also pointed it out. It’s probably not his mom who gets drowned in front of Moxie but she could still very well be dead.
