NICK SMITH is only 34 inches tall - a tiny 2ft 6" compared to his 6ft tall brothers. Nick - one of the smallest men in the world - has Microcephalic Osteodysplastic Primordial Dwarfism, a rare condition which has a short life expectancy and causes illnesses often associated with old age. In this episode of Born Different, we revisit Nick and his family after filming his incredible story in 2013. Defying all medical expectations, he is now celebrating his 28th birthday with his nearest and dearest.

Made me cry. I don't know about other people, but I know I take too many things for granted, and I'm not anywhere near thankful enough for the blessings I have. This man is an inspiration. He is a glowing example of how you should approach life and use what you were given for making others smile and helping to make their lives richer!

His mom said a thing that made me think it all through. It's really a blessing he's still a child in his family and they all take care of him because ordinary adults his age rarely are treated the same way and have to face all the difficulties of adult life

Who is acting like he has a normal life? Who thinks a normal healthy intelligent girl would be his girlfriend? I think most people can understand and see the various challenges he is facing. However, his life is normal to him and nothing else matters, he is happy and loved. It absolutely doesn't matter whether his life matches up with society's definition of ' normal'.
The first comment was referencing his pretend relationship with a kid's show star. People know it is not real. I'm pretty sure he was also in a pretend relationship with Elsa from frozen. The second comment was just confused and wrong about his relationship with his friend, who I think has William's syndrome.
I just didn't understand the point of you saying "people are stupid, no woman will date him" It just felt unnecessary and harsh to me.
Yes, developmentally and mentally he is similar to a young child. So obviously no women is ever going to date him because not only would that be morally wrong, but it could potentially be against the law. That was why I said a woman with a similar level of mental capacity. And I also said it probably wouldn't be like a typical romantic relationship. That doesn't mean it will be any less vaild or meaningful. There are plenty of examples I can give you.
I was born with a developmental disability, so I understand fully the challenges people with disabilities can face. I have literally experienced it for myself. I know what it is like to be rejected, ostracised and excluded for the way you are born.

I watched like 5 of these and I keep crying. My mom came into my room and said why are you crying and I showed her one of these videos and she started to cry too. Then she cried herself to sleep. Next morning she texted everyone in our family that we should be grateful of what we have, and sent this video. You see you can show 1 person and that will create a chain. Mom is beautiful inside and out, can’t imagine the worry she must go through but she seems incredibly dedicated to lil man.
I really like how people that's been born different dont sit around and mope about their life like some of us.. I enjoy watching the happy look on their faces. They struggled a dozen times more than us and still find the strength to go on. When I compare them with people with no disabilities it really makes me realise how much we dont value what we have as much as we should. Some of us tends to complain about what we dont have rather than be thankful of what we do have.. I really hope all the kids born different have a joyful and long happy life. A human is a human no matter what. When you look at it everyone is born different, it's just that some are more than others. Keep on fighting💪💪

He’s cute! It must be so damn hard to worry every single second of every day over how much longer you’ll have your child.
Honestly, you don’t worry. You just let them live their best lives while they are here. I have a special needs daughter and for her first year of life I would cry and cry because of the uncertainty like you say. Now she’s 5 and I just make sure everyday she is living her life to the fullest. No day is promised. Even us “normal” people can die in a blink of an eye like my brother in a car accident. So rather than worry when she’s going to die, i just make sure everyday she is as happy and bubbly of a girl as she can be.

What an amazing attitude he has. I feel blessed just to have seen this video of him. I cant imagine how blessed his family must feel. It's odd because facing adversity like that seems like it would be the opposite of a blessing but he is such a joy and so happy that it makes me want to be a better person.
I know a friend who was born with dwarfism. He embraced it proudly by dressing up as an Oompa-loompa from the 1971 film Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory on Halloween last year. Last year he finally accepted himself for the twentieth time. He was sure that he was ready to accept who he was, and he did. Last year he told me he wasn't going to be afraid anymore. This guy is amazing to be around with. He lights up the room everytime he walks in. This guy just wants to be friends with everyone he meets. He dresses up as on of Willy Wonka's little helper every year now (favourite character to portray). Knows all four songs from the original book so I don't blame him. Wish you all could meet him. He wants to help others embrace their fears by overcoming them and embracing their deformities (anything that they feel sets them apart from others really) as a strength. Trust me, this guy is so cool to be around. We take film and television production together at college in Canada. He's the first friend I have that's from a different province actually XD
Just had to also mention the 1971 film was the best Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory. And Gene Wilder owned that role. Only reason I watch it over and over is because of that man. Own all his films XD
