PS I highly recommend audiobooks through Amazon's Audible app as a way to stay sane while taking a CELTA course or other studies. I say this as when I am studying, I often don’t feel I have any time to read for leisure or fun, which frustrates me in a big way! Audiobooks have helped me to get back some of that leisure time as I still have the mental energy or capacity for an audiobook when I might not otherwise read.

Hi Irene. I see your confusion. I try to focus more on practical tips than nuances of linguistic terminology but here goes. I'm not too sure on 'phonic', but phonemes are the smallest parts of sounds of speech, and phonetic is anything that corresponds to how it is written. More in the comments below (from the dictionary)

      phonetic /fəˈnɛtɪk/
      adjective
      relating to speech sounds.
      "detailed phonetic information"
(of a system of writing) having a direct correspondence between symbols and sounds.

      phoneme /ˈfəʊniːm/
      noun
any of the perceptually distinct units of sound in a specified language that distinguish one word from another, for example p, b, d, and t in the English words pad, pat, bad, and bat.
