Happy to see the honorable mention on the Cascade. I scored on a Cascade XT 6.5 CM for my 12 year old son to use for his first deer rifle this year. Got it for a little over $530. Very happy with it. Great groups and having the ability to shorten the stock to 13" is really nice for kids or small stature shooters.

I agree with the list for the most part. If someone could stretch the budget a bit the CVA is worth it, or for a bit more the tikka. It is a shame the Thompson Center Compass is gone, it was a shooter. Love the Ruger.

@@marcmoore4115 I don’t think I could justify paying that much more money for the tikka. Howa is a great choice.

@@DavidBanks02 It would depend on the scope to me. The trigger and stock are not as good as on a CVA or Howa, but with a decent scope it is not bad.

Great advice on finding a gun's favorite ammo. Some will shoot most anything. Many will not. Once I was shooting with a buddy. We both had the very same rifle. After awhile it was very obvious that each preferred a different ammo! We even swapped rifles - no difference! I think new owners are often disillusioned because they do not bother to find their new rifle's favorite.

I know this video is about budget rifles, but if a guy can swing another $2-300 before glass on a rifle you can get an even better rifle that not only shoots well but has a more quality feeling with better machining, smoother bolt, a better stock, and usually a little better trigger. With rifles like the Tikka T3X lite, Bergara B-14 hunter, and Howa 1500’s.

My Howa didn't shoot at all the first 80 shots - I'm talking 2-4" at 100yds. Got a suppressor and it immediately shrunk down to 1". Eventually got habdloads with 165gr Nosler AccuBonds. Never tested seating depth/COAL, Just guessed 2.810" and tried powder charges in .5gr increments... every 3 shot group was sub 0.5" and when I did test shots once I got them loaded it shot a .175" 3 shot and a .45" 9 shot group... needless to say, I absolutely love this thing. Have 700 shots through it now and have no complaints except that the bolt knob keeps turning loose because I don't have lock tite lol

I had an older Savage m10 in .243 that would practically shoot one hole groups. I got it at Wally World about 20 years ago on clearance for $200. I'm not sure if it was a good choice, but I sold it so I could buy a Weatherby Vanguard Series 2 compact rifle in 7mm-08. I've only been able to use it one deer season, but it killed the deer dead right where it stood, but so did the 243. I wish I could have both, but my budget wouldn't allow it.

I know some can be lemons 🍋 see BackfireTV’s issue with 2 Mossberg Patriot and your first Ruger GW in 7 PRC, but most of the time they’re shooters. The only two on this list that I haven’t at least handled at Cabela’s etc are the Howa 1500 and CZ Alpha 600.

this summer worked up handloads at max levels for ruger ranch 300 bo bolt gun and cva stainless single shot in 350 legend. both with scopes in the $150 or less range and in 1-6x and 2-7x respectively. both rigs ended up shooting two shot one hole groups at 50 yds in the backyard. took some work and experimentation at the loading bench, but not a single factory round shot in them....which was my goal in the first place. who knows what they would have done on a calm day at 100 with at least a $150 class 3-9x optic on a heavy bench instead of a rest in the driveway on a $35 menards folding plastic table???? thanks wtw for your input and encouragement during the process!!!! in about a month, single shot deer season for my son. for the record, ruger single shot sled only functions with the ar pattern magazine ranch guns, not the older rotary mag ranch models....that was a $250 mistake. ouch!

Good list... good list. I'd personally drop the Howa and Axis and slip in the Cascade and the Bergara but as you mention, they are a pinch higher priced. I'd put the Bergaras in the top spot personally, esp if you don't need something super light weight. LOVE my CZ 600A. Mine is in 6 Creed. I bought it from a former benchrest competitor and still extremely picky when he switched to Dasher. The CZ shoots the ELD Match super well but the guy I bought it from had worked up a load with a slightly lower velocity, about 80 fps less than the stock Hornady and I bought his remaining supply. Literally first time out, out of eight 3-shot groups, three groups had three shots touching including the very first group. Great first impression. Still in the honeymoon phase but it's only for paper and coyotes so far.

Great budget choices. Maybe you can do a video on great budget ammo selections for Deer hunters. I see 308 and 350 legend plinking ammo for cheap and that makes for a good hunter. The 30-30 hunting ammo is sometimes as cheap as 308 plinking ammo at a buck a pop. What other calibers are a good choice these days?

    1) is it Control Round Feed or Push Feed.
    2) a 2 step or 3 step safety feature
    3) trigger pull pound pressure
    4) if it's a 2 lug, 3 lug, or 4 lug...and which is best for hunting?

cz 600 is nice as it is a great deal for a CRF rifle which isn't all that common nowadays. howa 1500 would be my choice for a modern push feed. Weatherby puts these actions in a nice stock and calls it the vanguard. if you are willing to go the surplus route, can't beat a swede m96, or for a bit more, a swede m38, both in 6.5x55 Swedish. check out 9 hole reviews for accuracy proof with irons.

Maybe for benchrest target shooting; however, lugging a heavy-barreled rifle around is not as enjoyable as most believe. It also requires a supported position for the majority of hunters, especially when waiting for game to move for the correct shot.

Is this true because I’ve heard the Mossberg patriot has fairly bad grouping. I don’t know if it’s just a wooden stock version of it but it would be greatly appreciated if you can do a deeper review on the Woodstock version of the Mossberg patriot as I’ve heard mixed reviews, some saying that it’s grouping is that a 4 inches to three and some saying it’s 1 to 2 inches so I would like more information because I’m in the market for a a good deer hunting rifle that is in the price range of 500$

Hello sir. Love your channel btw, always watch your new videos, always very informative. Had a question if you have time. I’ve got my next rifle narrowed down to either a CVA Cascade .308 Win SB with the 18-inch barrel or the CZ 600 Alpha .308 Win with the 20-inch barrel. Cost is similar. I was curious what you’d recommend? Looking for accuracy more than anything else. I shoot mainly 500 yards or closer. I appreciate your time sir.

Even though I watched this video only 12 days ago, I liked it so much that I am getting a second-helping! You are spot on with every selection and the awesome value in every bullet-launcher. I must make a slight adjustment to the ranking. We love the Ruger products in our house, and have many examples. That said, the fact that you literally stole that Savage gets my blood boiling! When you stated the sales price, I was surprised. I have the same gun, except mine has a Flat Desert Earth stock (I say desert because it's anything but Dark). Somehow, you snagged that thang for Under $300- and you got a snazzy scope and rangs to boot? Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot! I know that the price was a One-off dealio, but I am Jealous at how Blessed you are! Stop Showing Off Hoot! Just kiddin'- you keep 'em coming...
