I picked up an LS2 Explorer and I've been very happy with it. Outstanding value for the price with fiberglass construction, adjustable peak, very well ventilated, ECE, and lightweight. Peak is actually aerodynamic enough to keep on for highway riding which was a nice surprise.
I also got the LS2 carbon Explorer. I'm not a fan of it. Shell way to big in size. Came with rust on inside components. The black flip down visor broke on the first ride. The lower foam parts regularly come loose. I rate this helmet as pure trash
The Bell + Photochromic lens is the best value for the price. Plus you get great safety features and functionality that would rival the more expensive lids.
The problem with picking a helmet is that most dealerships don’t carry adventure helmets. They may be dealer of the brand you’re interested in, but don’t have a model to try. You have to order, compare, return, repeat.
I have a high spot in the center of my head that has caused discomfort in some of my helmets. It didn't occur to me to slightly depress the eps foam; what I did instead was use some half inch wide window sealing foam strips, foam with tape on one side, and put a 3 inch length on the eps liner on either side of my high spot. Now my high spot fits between the two foam strips, and with it between the comfort liner and the eps, I can't even tell anything is there.
I rock the Bell MIPS on my T7 (stock screen). 6'1" 165lbs If I am sitting normal and get on the freeway, my brain is shaking. If I scrunch down a little, no buffeting. So, if you are under 6' with that setup, smooth sailing.
I agree . I am 6' but have a long torso and shorter legs . At 40mph the buffeting starts and gets worse as you go . I swapped out the stock screen on my Tenere 700 for the Touratech tall windscreen and it's made a big difference . Still wear the ear plugs though , deaf enough as it is . How'd you like the T7 ? I am coming from a DR650 that I bought new in 2018 and that was my first motorcycle . After 2 years but not that many miles on it I knew it was just not enough for longer stretches of highway time but I sure miss how light it felt compared to my Tenere .
I cut my screen down for this very reason. I am 6’3” and the clean air is much better than the buffering. I will most likely buy a larger screen for longer trips.
Scorpion EXO AT950 here. I am a 62YO male rider at 5'6" with a 32-inch inseam. I ride a BMW R1200GSA Low and Honda CRF250L Rally - both with stock windscreens. Compared to my Shoei Neotec II road helmet, the Scorpion EXO AT950 adv helmet has a bit more buffeting while riding either bike. I eventually got used to it just by riding more and getting movement-specific muscles around my neck a little stronger. One thing I would add: Off-the-bike "land drills" become even more important (i.e. strength and flexibility exercises) as you age and become a more "mature" rider. Cheers! P.S. The Scorpion EXO AT950 runs small, so I ordered a size up. I believe the shell sizes from L to 3XL are all the same, so you can make adjustments by ordering the appropriate liner that fits you the best.
Shoei X-2 XL 6' 3" Norden 901 expedition, stock WS, very quiet standing, some noise sitting due to mirrors. great aerodynamics overall. Super comfortable on long rides
Bought the Bell initially based on price with plans to upgrade later after I did more research, but it’s been great and I didn’t see the need to spend more money.
I just bought a LS2 Explorer in an XL. I ride a 2020 Honda Africa Twin with the stock low windscreen. Im 6ft and about 250lbs with a 33 inch inseam. Large build
I am currently wearing a Nolan N70-2 X, medium but I have been eyeing the Scorpion EXO-AT950. I am just shy of 5'10", 205lbs, 30" inseam. In the right boots I can just flat foot either of my bikes but it's a stretch. I ride a 2016 Concours 14 and a 2021 Honda CB500X. I put 5,000 miles on the CB500X this summer touring the Western U.S. States and National Parks with my family. I added the small puig clip-on windscreen to the oem windscreen in it's raised position. Rain protection is minimal but buffeting is not an issue for me.
Helmet: Shoei Hornet X2 Medium (w/ cheap foam earplugs) Bike: Yamaha T7 (SC Low Comfort seat w/ OEM screen) Height: 5'9" Weight: 155lbs Inseam: 28ish" I just returned from a trip from MO to NC and I had to remove my peak after the first 4 hours on the way out due to taking roads that were 70MPH speed limit. The wind off semi trucks were catching my peak and causing severe discomfort in my neck. I had no neck pain after removing the peak. I do however have very sore ears. I can feel a section of the cheek pad sits on the ear nub above my earlobe and causes a pressure point. I just purchased the helmet 2 weeks before the trip and commuted as much as possible to check comfort, but I only experienced the ear pain on my long ride. If anyone has overcome this issue successfully please let me know as I love the helmet overall and couldn't return it even if I wanted to at this point.
I'm looking at the new LS2 Explorer in a large! Just sold my naked bike I'm currently looking ADV bikes right now! I'm 5'8" about 260ish, 30 inch inseam and my body type is average with a belly!
I use the At950 on a 2020 Tiger 1200 with the stock windshield. I ride with the screen all the way up and there is no buffeting. I’m 6’ with a 33” inseam. Love the helmet although after 6-8 hours it can feel a bit heavy. The features are nice for the money. Got three years out of it and it’s still my go to. Cardo Packtalk black works great in it.
Previously using Scorpion for about 2 years. Removed the peak due to vibration in highway ride. Love the internal dark visor. Now using Arai. It fits perfectly after removing the 5mm liner. Been using it a year for city ride and highway ride. Good ventilation and great aerodynamic without vibration at highway speed using the peak. Tested on bikes with and without windscreen. Will continue using it. Both dual-sport helmet need to wear ear plugs for long hours of riding comfort.
Hey CC - I'm considering the Klim. How is the noise level? I currently use a Bell MX9 which is loud as heck. Any advise you can give will be appreciated.
I have Bell mx9 mips, I couldn't find another model beside arai xd4 but its shape didn't fit for my skull.. bell is comfortable, wind flow is perfect but its too noisy but due to small motorcycle I also cant do hight speed , I have a small size adventure motorcycle honda xre 300 ..
I've had my Shoei Hornet X2 for about 6 years now. I love it. It is incredible for anything on the road, and for all but technical off roading. The sound proofing works really well, the fit is very comfortable, the peak design is rather ingenious and doesn't catch wind unless you turn your head sharply. One of the only downsides is it doesn't move much air. It's fine if you're bombing along, but if youre do more technical, slow speed stuff, especially when it gets warm... you'll be soaked. It's also rather heavy, which is good for bombing along, but not so good if you're getting technical and looking down to plan your line, your neck will be sore. Overall 9.5/10, I love mine and the pure white looks sharp and catches the eye! I ended up buying the Bell on this video as well for when it is hot out.
5"11 shoei x2 hornet 04 Sv650 naked pro taper dirtbike bar. I'm very spirited rider. No wind screen. The helmet is the best I've ever owned! I live in FL and it vents pretty well too.
Aprilia Tuareg 660, 5’10”, 32” inseam. Helmets: Bell MX9 - love the look, quality for the price, speaker pockets are too shallow, noisy, can’t close vents; Scorpion AT950 - love the modular feature, a little heavy, speaker pockets are too shallow, average noise, good ventilation; my Tuareg provides good wind coverage, but a highway speeds I can get buffeting around the top and sides of my helmet. Added a height adjustable clip on visor and it solved my problem. I think all ADV bikes should come with adjustable height windscreens.
I've used the Shoei, the Klim and now the Arai, and by many reasons this last is the bes making an average, Shoei is perfect fit, bot noisy and heat, Klim extremely light but so noisy and not so much aerodynamic, Arai isn't the best on all, but it make it so correctly and the perfect fit interior puts in other level the helmet Really I miss don't have for it the photocromatic visor as has the Klim and Shoei that really runs TOP! Nice video mate, thanks
Two riding seasons ago, I grabbed two helmets.. 1 was an O'Neal Sierra II [More for Off-road riding] 2 was the Scorpion EXO AT-950 [More for On/Off-road riding] Both KILLER lids! Both Extremely comfortable! Both Great Quality-to-cost-ratio also! I will say this.. The Sierra visor Will Catch Wind and BADLY! Enough to bobble your head.. The EXO vents the air/wind away/through the visor better, so no high speed head bobbles.. The Sierra is a bit more comfortable [for Me anyways] but I LOVE the modular front and the dual exterior/interior shields on the EXO. My biggest and only gripe w/ the EXO is that it's a bit of a pain to install 'extras'. "Extras" in my case - Gopro w/ Audio adapter & Mic [Due to the flippable front/chin section] [I almost grabbed another EXO yesterday - just a different color - And probably Still Will] Great review as always dude!! Sam - PS: Additional info - Since it was brought up in the video: I'm about 6ft tall, and used these helmets w/ 3 bike setups: Yamaha TW200 Yamaha WR250R Honda NC700X The Yamahas really don't have much if anything as far as a front fairing.. The Honda has the OEM windscreen + a clip-on added to the top.. [No Buffeting when sitting] **I do a Lot of stand-up-riding though, so my rambling was based on that.. One last thing - More of a heads up: The Scorpions are said to run a bit [too] narrow. [If/when that's the case, you'll probably want to go with the next size up from normal] As someone w/ a narrow/thin head, I went w/ my usual size, and it fit tight/perfectly.. Tight - as in the Cheek-Pads. But they'll mush in, and eventually form, for flawless fit.
I’ve have a shoei hornet x2 all black and riding in south Texas summers no complaints. I’ve had it for 5 years now and it’s time to upgrade. Looking for something modular. I ride a vstrom 650 xt and the windscreen even on the highest setting doesn’t redirect the wind over my head so I catch all the wind with my helmet but the vented visor really helps with head stability at Highway speeds. My only complaint is the stock shoei visors have little plastic plugs that fall out eventually and cause a lot of wind noise.
This is my second season with the Scorpion. Riding a T7, 5'8', 30" inseam standard seat, stock windshield. A fair bit of buffeting at speeds higher than 40mph. The issue mentioned about it affecting vision became part of this buffeting at about 60mph. I installed a kit to allow raising the windshield higher and that resolved it. I use earplugs most of the time but the noise isn't bad now that the buffeting issue is resolved. Definitely not the coolest or lightest helmet offroad but I agree with the bang-for-buck point of view.
I also have a T7 and I'm about the same measurements as you. I wear an older generation Shoei. The buffeting is annoying. What kit did you use to raise the windshield? Also, did you have to fill in the gap under the windshield once you raised it?
I went with the Klim Krios Pro ADV helmet . Could not be more satisfied . Fits a dream and my noggin is a 2XL . One issue that I knew was there but it didn't bother me until this late winter was that the visor didn't close all the way . There's a quarter inch gap and some water got in on a foggy drizzly day and drops went in my eye . I was dumbfounded , had been in rain a few times and nothing happened then ? Called Klim and they emailed me an easy adjustment that I can do . Have a Tenere 700 and with the stock windscreen I was getting buffeting and too much noise above 40mph . I have a long torso and shorter legs for being 6' . Had to have the bike lowered but when I got the Motoz Tractionator ADV tires they brought the bike back up that 3/4" . Really like those tires just need more dirt time and sure could use a training course or 2 . I changed the stock windscreen to a Touratech tall windscreen that adds 4" to the height and that stopped the buffeting but I will still use the ear plugs . If anyone goes with that Touratech tall windscreen just be ready to be very impatient at the least or furious that it's such a bitch getting that clear hard rubbery bead liner thing on the edge of the windscreen . That took me 40 minutes and my thumb and index finger hated it , 20 minutes in they were numb . That dang thing better stay on . I hope to never need the impact protection it helps to provide . Right now I am kinda dreading the install of the Cyclops Aurora kit I got for the Tenere . Just don't like the idea of piercing any wire on my one and only bike and I can't seem to find the install video that I know I watched a few months ago . Can't wait to have those extra lights on and the fact that they turn with the forks is mandatory for any bike a own , have to be able to see what's coming before I get there us anything to improve safety is fine by me .
I just recently got the Tenere, and I went with the PIAA fog lights, below the headlight. They work amazing, but the dealer mechanic explained it is a pain to install, due to all the stuff that needs to be removed. Its also my only bike, commuter, so I cant afford reliability/damage. Im very happy with the product and install.
@@philhagoes9339 Nice . I saw those lights at Touratech and elsewhere but they are pricey but people really like them as they last as long as they don't hit a big rock or something . Rocky Mountain ATV/MC has Thumper Jockey pod lights and I had them on my DR650 , indispensable an absolute must for the pos headlight on that bike . Wondering if I should have just got another set of those and just made or buy some bracket for those instead . Those are super easy to install and they are great at lighting up the road or trail . Once I take a look at the instructions for those Cyclops Aurora lights I will do my best at not screwing up , lol .
4 years ago, not knowing much about helmets, got myself a Shoei Neotec. Fantastic helmet! Changed a few bikes and eventually got myself a BMW R1200GSA. The helmet and the bike work really well together, now looking for a new helmet, adv style (of course) Everything Eric said about Shoei is absolutely spot on. Quiet, well vented, comfortable on long rides. I will probably get the Shoei Hornet, perhaps the X3 is on the way?
I have the same helmet and bike. I live in the Deep South, USA. The helmet doesn’t flow enough air in the blistering heat and humidity down here. It’s fine when the temperature is 70 degrees F or cooler. My only other gripe is that my ears get very sore after a long day of riding from the pressure from the helmet. Mine is fitted with a Cardo comms system. That isn’t what’s making my ears hurt though. My ears hurt the same before the Cardo was installed. It feels like the ring of padding around the speakers are to thick and start putting pressure on the tops and back of my ear lobes after about the 5-6 hour mark. It’s not unbearable but it hurts like the devil when I go to take the helmet off. It’s a very comfortable helmet otherwise. I thought the weight would be a problem due to a bulging disc in my neck from being rear ended by an idiot driving while surfing FaceBook on his phone. It has not been an issue for me and I just drove the bike 850 miles in a two day trip. I also love the bayonet style or whatever it’s called buckle system on the Shoei. It’s fast and easy to use unlike the double D-rings used on a lot of other brands. I tried a Krios Pro but the sizing apparently runs kinda small on them. I wear an XL in the Shoei but the Klim was painfully tight in the same size. It’s a super high quality helmet and super light. It just didn’t fit me and they didn’t have a 2xl for me to try on. The magnetic latch thing is a thing of beauty. I love my GSA. It’s just a spectacular bike.
Got the same "issue". Wanna swap from Neotec to the Hornet, because it suits better with my multistrada v4s. Could you say something about your experience a year later now? I either buy a Hornet, otherwise ill get a Neotec 3.y
@@bjrnchrstn well, in the meantime I did some research and tried a few helmets, and finally got an Arai XD4. Lighter and better ventilated (important at slow speeds), it fits my head shape better, it looks amazing, as well. It is also Snell rated. No drop-down visor though(😭). I think you need to try all of them before deciding which one to buy. Looks are important, however the functionality and comfort should prevail. Happy shopping!
After watching a lot of helmet reviews, I couldn't help but notice that people always love the most expensive helmets. So, now I am curious if they don't actually love them but actually feel like they have to love them because they were so expensive. I'm digging the Klims but really like the flip down shade.
Old comment I know, but once you wear an expensive helmet like an Arai, the quality is apparent. If you have the cash it's worth it. If not, you'll be just fine with a cheaper helmet.
@@RiggadonDan there are plenty of expensive helmets that have lower safety ratings that their inexpensive counterparts. It's all about the research because these companies can be really sneaky with there certifications. I found an HJC helmet for under $300 that outperformed thousand dollar helmets in the Snell tests.
Yes and no. Sometimes companies try to sneak cheap materials into premium helmets but this is rare. However as with most premium products it's a game of diminishing returns. That said, u wear thing for several hundreds of thousands of hours... At that point price becomes less of an issue imo
Agree . In my misspent youth I passed out drunk leaning against my buddies 100w stereo speaker at the beach . A few of us would sneak out and go hang out at beach at night where the older kids would party and have bonfires drinking all night . We would stagger home at 3 or 4 , get a few hours sleep and then go to school . Then one day the jig was up and boy what a whoopin I got . All the front row ZZ Top concerts and the like should have obliterated my hearing but I don't have much hearing loss if any at all .
I bought a Shoei Hornet X2. My head is exactly 23.5'' which made sizing tricky, medium was snug but *very* hard to get on and off. So I ended up going with a large and wanted to add the thicker cheek pads, but their out of stock everywhere...
I have an original Africa Twin 2018 screen and the Bell is really noisy and the wind above 80km/h really pulls your head. I'm 1,84m. Not a big fan of the helmet for adventure riding but im using it for the offroad trails
Klim Krios Pro, size L, behind a stock Triumph Tiger 900 RP windscreen, 6’, 33” inseam. I get a little buffeting with the windscreen fully down, but it improves ventilation. One thing not mentioned, is that Klim has only two shell sizes for their Krios helmets (S/M, and L/XL/XXL,XXXL), while Arai offers five shell sizes (one for each head size). Being that I wear a large in the Klim, my shell size is made for an XXXL size, giving the feeling that I’m a bobblehead on a motorcycle.
What you point out is the secret that these companies use in order for them to save money. When they cut back on the shell sizes the helmet has to become a larger bobble head to accommodate a larger number of head sizes. The tactics that some of these companies use are nauseating
I'm looking at the helmet too and am buying the same bike, here in SoCal. You liking the bike so far? Any mods like upper eng guards..they have new ones now and replaced the orginal ones. I'll be adding a bash plate too and hand guard protectors etc...and going with Mosko Moto panniers. I'm 6-0 also. 32 inseam. So you DONT get buffeting when the screen is up ?
@@kee7678 I highly recommend NOT getting the Klim Krios Pro helmet. After two years of use, I ended up buying an Arai XD-4. The quality of materials and technology is Night and Day difference. A buddy of mine bought a Krios Pro against my advice, and within three months sold it and bought a Japanese made helmet. I would say the quality of the Krios Pro is a $300 helmet with $700 marketing. I would also say that the Bell MX-9 is a better helmet than the Klim. My $.02. As far as the bike, I sold mine and got something else. The Tiger 900 RP is a great bike, but I wanted something easier to work on as I do my own maintenance. I did a six week, 11,450 mile, cross country trip on the Tiger before selling it, riding 4,000+ miles of the Trans-American Trail, with Mosko bags, and had zero complaints or issues.
@@rallye81 wow...well, that, I consider, excellent info. Man I'll have to reconsider that for sure. I've heard good things about the XD-4..and the MX-9 also. I appreciate the the advice a lot so thank you very much! Any additional info you have I'm all ears. Thanks again!
Hey, I watched your videos previously. I"m in Socal, and am from Iowa...and remembered your vids from last year. I was like "man, Ill go with this guy next time I head home to see my folks in Iowa along the same route as him Lol". Yeah I'm new into ADV riding and plan on my trips across the border to Baja and all over the great West out her moto camping (and hanggliding and paragliding as I do often). Thanks man!
Helmet : RPHA 11 / Height : 1,85m / Bike : T7 with standard windshield -> Perfect Helmet for road riding But the T7 windshield is too short for me (or too long) because it creates turbulences right in the eyes and forehead, it add noise also obviously. Enduro helmet : STRIKER UNI by Shot -> The Peak add to the problem of turbulences and noise but at low offroad speed it cannot compare to any of the road / adventure helmet because of the airflow. I try not to use is on the road though, it lack a wind shield to say the least. Cheers from France
I have the Scorpion AT950 helmet and use NoNoise brand ear plugs. I will keep this setup till it's time to get a new helmet, then I may get the latest version. I ride a 1998 Honda TransAlp 600XL with Oem visor, eng guards and paniers/ topbox. I ride 80%road/ 20% offroad. This is commuter bike mainly. Plan on riding Florida - Alaska round trip when I retire 7yrs from now. The return trip I will pickup the Trans America Trail in Oregon.
I use XD4. My Africa Twin model is pre-snell rated but my newer XD-4 Vision model is snell rated. The muzzle of the snell rated version is shorter than the old model. The chin bar presses further onto my chin. It’s not an issue but the helmet does feel different.
Bike: Triumph Tiger Rally Pro. Riding style: 80/20 (and the 20 is off pavement, but rarely off road - gravel, two-track forest service, and that sort of thing.) Current helmet: Schuberth C4. What's wrong with that besides no beak? Do adventure lightweights really need an adventure-specific helmet if they have a full-faced, modular conventional helmet?
4:51 "...[the XD4 is] not a really amazing helmet these days in terms of features and options."... I guess it depends whether you prefer a Hyundai with all the bells and whistles, or a "basic" Rolls Royce! It's not about "features and options"... it's about overall comfort, functionality, and, above all, SAFETY... and none of these other helmets come CLOSE to the Arai XD4. It ain't broke, so they didn't fix it!!
I have the same helmet with packtalk Slim, love the cardo system! And like most other scorpion owners on here, I have removed the beak as it just vibrates too much at speed
I have the scorpion for 2 seasons now, on my BMW R1250GSA with stock screen it gives turbulence at higher speeds. On long highway trips I take the visor off. Im 6ft tall. Overall I’m very satisfied with the helmet.
I have the Shoei Hornet in a large, and ride a 2020 Africa Twin AS. I have the same thought about Shoei, that helmet just fits perfect very little wind noise. And with the way they designed it to flow wind it never jerks my head around even on really windy days. I have a Shoei dirt bike helmet also there just the best in my book. I did try the Bell when I first got my ATAS and it fit nice but the liner wore out pretty fast and the vents rattled and was super loud! the Face shield never really sealed up very well ether.
I have been using Scorpion ADX-1 (that's how the AT-950 is called in Europe) for over 2 years now. One of the chin bar pins got loose, so the flip-up chin bar is not closing as securely as it was brand new. Chin bar around the puller to flip the chin up is cracking. Overall for me helmet is comfortable, has speaker cut-outs, can mount intercom systems no problem, but the built quality could be better.
I own the Shoei und the Arai X4. Both are very comfortable. In my opinion/experience the Arai is less noisy and better ventilated. Also there is more room to put an google on. On the other hand it is much easier to remove or change the visor with the Shoei and extemly fiddly with the Arai. In fact in Europe the Arai comes with pinlock!
I have a question about ear plugs with com's if anybody can answer, I have a Tourtech (aka Schuberth E1) and I got a Cardio pack talk com since I put the speakers in if I am wearing earplugs which always do it hurts my ears really bad after awhile even if I cut the earplugs off shorter (wear soft foam earplugs) and I dont feel like the padding is is even touching them it can start feeling like a nail is being pushed into my inter ear. Has anybody else had trouble with earplugs hurting bad after putting speakers in? any way to fix it?
KLIM KRIOS PRO it fits my round head the best. The only complaint I have it has a slight squeak from the top visor bolt if its loose. You can put something between the visor and shell to not have this happen.
It should also be noted that the Scorpion is the only one in this group without ECE or SNELL certification. Instead, it has the less stringent DOT standard.
Used almost single one of those ( except klim ) and I enthap choose the Nexx Xwed2... Already 40miles on them and still like new and amazing quiet in highway won't choose another one yet... 👍
I've had one for 4 years now. The only downside is if you ride hard off-road for hours, you get some neck strain. But the adjustable vents, the internal sun shield, unbeatable.
Don't they also call it a beak? I went from a very silent Schubert C3 to a completely open Scorpion VX16 enduro. I just wear earplugs and that compensates perfectly. It was bleeding hot and I couldn't breathe at all and it weighs a lot more than the Scorpion... just for the noise advantage? 3 euro a year for earplugs
I think for bicycles came up with MIPS. Why can’t we just buy the plastic slip, that’s all it is it is crazy it helps so much. Like bicycles riders do, slip one in which ever helmet they wear right?
BWM R1250 GS with stock windshield. 1.90 (~6.2). I'm very happy with my Arai X4 XL, but I do have the XS lining, as I generally run between a large and an x-large.
6' 1" and 250 lbs (34 in inseam), riding a T7 with the taller wind screen from Rally Raid (huge improvement in wind noise)! Helmet is a modular style, HJC in size L. Snug, but well fitting helmet with a drop-down sun screen. Two complaints, sizing charts are not even close, need to go up at least one size, if not two. Second is that the cheek pieces are too snug even with the proper head size. There again, need cheek pieces from helmets two sizes up, and I do not have over-sized cheeks! This helmet is a great budget option....would benefit from the addition of a sun visor! Great video, team!
Previously rode with a Scorpion for 1 year and upgraded to a KLIM Krios (non- pro version) carbon. The weight saving is amazing in the KLIM and love the fit and feel of the helmet. After 3 years of wearing, I cannot find a downside to the helmet. The ventilation is excellent, my neck doesn't get fatigued after long rides do to the light weight of the helmet. The Scorpion was a tad on the heavy side and received vibration at high speeds.
Three years now with a krios pro, I love it despite it being a tad narrow front to back on the fitment. Wind noise is an issue with all helmets but I mitigate that with ear plug style wired ear buds that connect me to a Cardo coms system allowing me to listen to music and chat on group rides with others. 100% would buy again. Love the scorpion 950s too. Use them at work.
Wearing the Hornet X2 with stock shield and PackTalk Bold on my T7. 5’9 with taller torso, but really no wind buffeting and helmet is great in cross wind. Removed a bit of lining in the back for fit my large, and slightly oblong head.
Ls2 Pioneer in 4xl. Very noisy helmet and the peck catching wind guest. I am 5 foot 6inches tall and large in the waist, hell I am fat. I do have a large torso and shortish legs so my 2019 Suzuki v-strom 650 is very tall for me. Thank you for giving us a different prospective on my favorite style of helmet.
Medium Large sized AGV AX9 Helmet, on a KTM 1290 SAR standard screen, usually in the high position on the road. 5'10 tall - no idea what my inseam is or how to measure it, but my pants are always standard length and I never need to have them adjusted for cuff length etc if that helps.
I’m 6’4” tall, more torso than legs. Ride a KLR 650 with a V Stream aftermarket windshield, also a Super Tenere with a Puig aftermarket windshield. Recently purchased the EXO AT950. Previous helmets have all been Shoei, as Eric says “they just fit”. Found the AT950 not to be my head shape size, which is round oval. Helmet is more of an oval, or so it seems to me. Shoei size for me is XL. Bought the AT950 in an XL as well. Experienced pressure points on the forehead and at back of head. While helmet has nice features I found the drop down sun visor optics to be less than optimal. Overall a good helmet for the price, just not a good fit for me.
I got the Arai XD4 in A size small. But I've always been a Shoei guy. So Arai doesn't fit my head shape as well as the Shoei. Will be getting the Shoei Hornet next.
My biggest problem with the Krios is only 2 shells. So if you aren't a Medium or XXXL your sizing is compromised. It's why a lot of people look like bobbleheads in them.
I am using a Gmax modular helmet G64S. It is about the same price as the Scorpion with the same drop down sun shade. It has worked well for me. I think it is actually a snow mobile helmet company.
I own my Bell MX-9 ADV MIPS S size, It blocks most of the noise either from the machine (KTM DUKE 390cc 2014 model) and the surrounding noise from cars passing by, it’s pretty good I can say, and the best thing is value for money 152.66£ including the shopping fee).
I have the Krios (non Pro version). I am 5'8" with a 30" inseam. I ride a 2014 BMW R1200GS. I use both the stock windshield and a Puig Touring windshield with zero buffeting issues. I normally wear a Large helmet in Bell and Schuberth. I went with a Medium Krios, as they run a bit large. The Medium fits perfectly. Overall, this is a comfortable helmet with great visibility and good venting.
Great content. I do have tinitus. Middle ear damage apparently to long term higher noise exposure like ‘life in a helmet’. I’ve had an Arai XD4 for 10 yrs and I’m getting concerned about “aging out” so I’m shopping for a replacement. Build quality is primary criteria followed by fit and then quietness. My helmet size is 7 3/8” (Lg). Dimensions: 6’1” , 34” inseam, 190lbs (87Kg). Riding a 2022 KTM 1290 SAR. Ride style includes: gravel roads, asphalt, single track, 3/4 seasons so all temperature and weather except winter. I have other bikes and use Bell Moto for Enduro and trail and a Klim Krios with winter kit for Snow biking. I had to make some foam adjustments for my forehead ‘horns’ in the Arai XD4. Did you test the new Arai XD5?
I have the Klim Krios, considering upgrading to the pro. I have a 2020 Africa Twin Adv Sports, and I’m 6’3. The stock windshield on my Africa twin in the high position (which is where I have it on the highway at higher speeds) perfectly shoots the wind over the visor of my Klim helmet! In the low position I get some buffeting but I usually only have it low when I’m just cruising around town or off-road
I currently have a krios and love it, but previously had an airoh commander and loved it too and would consider going back to it, particularly on price. Is there a reason why it wasn’t in this line up? I’m struggling to find comparison on the commander vs the others included in this video?
Just that we don’t even have a local shop carrying that helmet, or any of our team having experience with one. (And it was kind of a long video already :)
BMW F750 GS, upgraded long windshield, Krios helmet, 6 foot 200. Used to ride in the late 80s, started riding again, and love it. Had to do my education and family, the medical profession, now retired and can enjoy life to the extreme. Was surfing before all over the coast of Calif. and now enjoy riding.
Excellent question, maybe email those manufacturers directly if they don't already explain on their websites? We can tell you that some brands for sure won't allow dealers to ship from the U.S. internationally, so the same might be true for Asian dealers, etc.
Love a modular helmet. Impossible to go back actually. I’ll check that Scorpion! I’ve been using a Bilt modular with built-in mic and Sena BT, drop-down sunshade, great quality at a huge bargain for $250. Just love the modular in town and slower speeds.
Scorpion AT950 medium on crf300l rally with visor removed. 6'3" and love it so much I now have two colors.
Have the Bell MX-9. It does have the option for a Photochromatic shield as well as different size cheek pads.
Tiger 900 GT; Arai XD4 size M; Cheers. When my Arai XD4 will be dead, i will definitely buy another one.
Thanks for sharing. Nice to stick with what works : )
@@MotoRidesVietnamI also noticed how huge the LS2 Explorer is, if that is what you mean by big shell size. It's huge from outside.
The Bell + Photochromic lens is the best value for the price. Plus you get great safety features and functionality that would rival the more expensive lids.
Thanks for sharing
The problem with picking a helmet is that most dealerships don’t carry adventure helmets. They may be dealer of the brand you’re interested in, but don’t have a model to try. You have to order, compare, return, repeat.
Just orderd the Scorpion, cant wait to try it out, (Its called the ADX-1) over here in the UK for anyone looking.
One of the best reviews out there for this niche style helmet.
Thanks for saying so. More ahead : )
6'1"
165lbs
If I am sitting normal and get on the freeway, my brain is shaking.
Thanks for this, I just started shopping for an ADV helmet. Am 75 and just learning to play in the dirt;). + 50 years street previously.
That is awesome! RIDE on my friend. Dirt is fun
2016 KLR 650 6’2” 280lbs 32” inseam. OEM windshield with the Shoei Hornet x2 XL!! Big head LOVE my Shoei!
XD4/Medium..2021 BMW GSA...Egro windshield...taller than OEM...I can use goggles without taking visor off.
Helmet: Shoei Hornet X2 Medium (w/ cheap foam earplugs)
Bike: Yamaha T7 (SC Low Comfort seat w/ OEM screen)
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 155lbs
Inseam: 28ish"
I just returned from a trip from MO to NC and I had to remove my peak after the first 4 hours on the way out due to taking roads that were 70MPH speed limit.
Forgot one more, NEXX X.WED2. Also comes in a carbon version.
Scorpion also comes with pinlock. I own one
Klim Krios Pro. I love how light weight it is. It’s visibility is outstanding. Didn’t think I would love the magnetic closure but it is amazing
Hey CC - I'm considering the Klim. How is the noise level? I currently use a Bell MX9 which is loud as heck. Any advise you can give will be appreciated.
@@fuelerr moderate noise. But I use earplugs which makes it quieter.
Have to be modular ( schuberth e1)
Any opinions on the LS2 explorer helmet? Thanks
I am using an Arai XD4, Honda CRF1100L with Givi sports screen and MRA spoiler. 5'10 rider on high seat setting.
Do a neck brace video I want to get one
Currently use the Neotec but thinking of swapoing to the Hornet. Wondering if you miss the "sunglasses" in the Hornet?
@@bjrnchrstn sunglasses?
I've used the Shoei, the Klim and now the Arai, and by many reasons this last is the bes making an average, Shoei is perfect fit, bot noisy and heat, Klim extremely light but so noisy and not so much aerodynamic, Arai isn't the best on all, but it make it so correctly and the perfect fit interior puts in other level the helmet
Really I miss don't have for it the photocromatic visor as has the Klim and Shoei that really runs TOP!
Nice video mate, thanks
I choose the Klim Krious after I got to try it on. Happy with my choice
The Shoei just fits Eric the best but most of our guys wear the Krios. Solid helmet that feels as close as you can get to not wearing a helmet at all.
Two riding seasons ago, I grabbed two helmets..
1 was an O'Neal Sierra II [More for Off-road riding]
2 was the Scorpion EXO AT-950 [More for On/Off-road riding]
Both KILLER lids! Both Extremely comfortable! Both Great Quality-to-cost-ratio also!
I will say this.. The Sierra visor Will Catch Wind and BADLY! Enough to bobble your head..
The EXO vents the air/wind away/through the visor better, so no high speed head bobbles..
The Sierra is a bit more comfortable [for Me anyways] but I LOVE the modular front
and the dual exterior/interior shields on the EXO.
My biggest and only gripe w/ the EXO is that it's a bit of a pain to install 'extras'.
"Extras" in my case - Gopro w/ Audio adapter & Mic [Due to the flippable front/chin section]
[I almost grabbed another EXO yesterday - just a different color - And probably Still Will]
Great review as always dude!!
Sam -
PS: Additional info - Since it was brought up in the video:
I'm about 6ft tall, and used these helmets w/ 3 bike setups:
Yamaha TW200
Yamaha WR250R
Honda NC700X
The Yamahas really don't have much if anything as far as a front fairing..
The Honda has the OEM windscreen + a clip-on added to the top.. [No Buffeting when sitting]
**I do a Lot of stand-up-riding though, so my rambling was based on that..
One last thing - More of a heads up: The Scorpions are said to run a bit [too] narrow.
[If/when that's the case, you'll probably want to go with the next size up from normal]
As someone w/ a narrow/thin head, I went w/ my usual size, and it fit tight/perfectly..
Tight - as in the Cheek-Pads. But they'll mush in, and eventually form, for flawless fit.
Thanks for sharing the detail, Dirty Dovi, info that will definitely help other riders make the right decision!
@@RIDEAdventures Most welcome, and glad to be of some help! 👍
@@luisv259 I used the T7 Rally adjuster set. I don’t have anything blocking the bottom with it in the raised position.
@@brianq103 Thanks!
@@philhagoes9339
Nice .
At that point price becomes less of an issue imo
ear plugs are soooo important. hearing damage is irreversible
What are folks riding that require earplugs?

I bought a Shoei Hornet X2. My head is exactly 23.5'' which made sizing tricky, medium was snug but *very* hard to get on and off. So I ended up going with a large and wanted to add the thicker cheek pads, but their out of stock everywhere...
I picked up the Krios Pro this week. Size XL and I’m 5’10” 190LBS. I ordered the Sena 10U but don’t know how I’ll like it,
On the Bell helmet you should have mentioned that it also has the transitions shield .

Arai xD4 on a T7 ..5"8 Thanks for the video
I confess I’m a Shoei head, currently own a Neo II and R1200. Just got a AT AS so looking at the AT950 as my adventure helmet.
I really like my Scorpion XT950 modular helmet. It’s compatible with the Cardo Packtalk Bold Slim. Only negative is that it’s loud at hiway speeds.
Good to know, thanks for sharing. Looks like folks are adding some bike/helmet combos in the comments.
Bell Mx9, Tenere 700, cut down the stock windshield.
Congrats on what sounds like a big dirt/rally bike : )
Shoei RF-SR, Vstrom 650, Givi airflow windscreen. Arclite Optics glasses. Overall a great setup. Shoei is nice and quiet face shield up or down.
Thanks for sharing, good info for folks to consider.
Go with the Shoei, bmw F750GS, aftermarket tall windshield . 5'10" 200lbs.
Waiting for the 2022 Honda cb500x here in the Philippines. Thanks for the video it really helped me decide what helmet I want...
Good choice, glad if the video helped, thanks for saying so : )
nexx is my choice, quality satisfactory price reasonable considering what you get with the helmet ...
Highly informative and just an overall great video.
KLIM KRIOS PRO it fits my round head the best. The only complaint I have it has a slight squeak from the top visor bolt if its loose. You can put something between the visor and shell to not have this happen.
it's more ROUND than oblong is that correct?
Beak or "peak" maybe, for the visor. -- Thanks for watching.
I think for bicycles came up with MIPS. Why can’t we just buy the plastic slip, that’s all it is it is crazy it helps so much. Like bicycles riders do, slip one in which ever helmet they wear right?
Hmm hey Bell, where's your marketing team at?
In Europe, the ECE rated Shoei hornet weight is 1560g in size Large....so weight is not a problem here...
What about the noise on krios pro my friend?
@@stauros12345 there is Noise with the reduction of weight but really not that bad.
Removed a bit of lining in the back for fit my large, and slightly oblong head.
i just bought an 4x4 atv touring but i like the features of these adv helmets are these helmets capable for offroad extremes
I find with the drop down visors inside the helmet they rest on your nose and it kind of hurts.
Yea, that can't happen or you'd end up looking like Chuck Cecil's nose after a Packer game.
Great video sir! Please share the lightest and quietest helmets in order. Also which helmets can I use my cardo edge Bluetooth with?
I own my Bell MX-9 ADV MIPS S size, It blocks most of the noise either from the machine (KTM DUKE 390cc 2014 model) and the surrounding noise from cars passing by, it’s pretty good I can say, and the best thing is value for money 152.66£ including the shopping fee).
The price is a huge factor for me so I chose the Bell. Great content, thanks!
Are the ROUND or Oblong shaped helmets?
Forgot to mention Bell also has a transition lens option it run bout 115- 150$ us..Otherwise one of best helmet compare videos i seen
It would be nice to be able to buy one of the Klim helmets but I can’t find them anywhere.
Arai XD4 fits my head shape perfectly, but haven't tried on any of the others.
Question: how do you buy an Asian fit Shoie/Arai helmet if you live in North America? Which website should I visit? Many thanks
Excellent question, maybe email those manufacturers directly if they don't already explain on their websites? We can tell you that some brands for sure won't allow dealers to ship from the U.S. internationally, so the same might be true for Asian dealers, etc.
@@RIDEAdventures 👍
I've been using the Nexx XWed2, similar to the Touratech Adventuro. I like it, wondering why it isn't in the list. But I'd like something lighter.
Love a modular helmet. Impossible to go back actually. I’ll check that Scorpion! I’ve been using a Bilt modular with built-in mic and Sena BT, drop-down sunshade, great quality at a huge bargain for $250. Just love the modular in town and slower speeds.
you also have Schuberth's E1 in that caterogy (moduler, sun shade visor, peak)
