I currently picked up both these pistols. Smith has come along way for sure . The new flat trigger which I was lucky to find in sub compact 3.6 optic and light included what a steal at $600 . Both shoot accurately and reliably. The shield plus is or with night sights , I put a Ct rad micro green dot , I’m still getting use to both platforms . So far I’m impressed with results. Glad your trying different platforms. Thanks for your positive attitude and feedback.K
You Tube is full of jerk offs as you well know, I’m not one of them . Like you I call them as I see them . Stay positive and let the jerks go there way . K
Great comparison, if you want to keep the grip length down, put Pearce base plate on both. And yes, you can buy larger magazines for both. 15 for the shield, up to 23 for the 2.0 subcompact. :-)
The newer Shield Pluses come with orange front, blacked out rear tritium sights. And they made the grip texture rougher again. The new ones are perfect, and bought for $387.
I wanted a M&P9 2.0 compact but none of the 3 gun shops i visited had them. I saw the shield plus and loved the features and the fact that little pistol can hold 10, 13 and 15 rounds glad i got one. I prefer the 10 and 13 round mags when i carry and use the 15 round mags for range visits
Honest outlaw’s video from a little while ago with the M&P 2.0 Compact 3.6” shows the updated version of the subcompact. He still called it the subcompact in the title but it’s basically the subcompact merged with the compact. Only difference is now it’s part of the regular M&P compact line as a different option for barrel length, compact grip length with subcompact barrel length (3.6”) and now it has the new flat trigger and is Optics Ready out the box. To me, the size difference with the shield plus is made up for with the ability to have a rail, optic and more than 15 rounds.
Shield Plus is the smallest I’d go. Shoots well for its size. But was surprised how much the G26 shoots like a larger pistol when I rented one. Planning to get a Gen 5. But that S&W looks like it’s worth checking out too. 👍
Great comparison. I’m hoping they introduce the subcompact in an optics ready variant soon. That very likely would become my new warm weather carry gun if they make it available. I’m a lefty, so I appreciate the ambidextrous slide catch on the subcompact, but I’ve also become hooked on pistol red dots, so I’ll hope for that “perfect for me” combo.
I know it's been 8 months but you can get a dove dot plate that fits perfectly to add a red dot without have the slide milled they hold zero really well I have one on mine
I made my Shields into Subcompacts. I Bought a 3 5/8 inch Treaded Barrel for my 9mm Shield Plus from True Precision, A Hogue Grip.. Also have a 9mm Shield with Trigger upgrade and a 3 5/8 inch Faxon Barrel. Also a Hogue Grip. Great Stability and Accuracy. Shooting 12 ounces hanging Beer cans 20 yards easy and 40 yards Body size Targets. Reliability No Change. No Optic Cuts, Anyway I am Very happy with them.
I forgot who set the stage for the micro compacts but the shield plus is definitely one of my favorites. I also love the hellcat by Springfield Armory. I still appreciate subcompacts tho and I carry them more than the micros.
Love my sub compact, carrying as we type with the 17 round mag. Top quality, awesome prices and choices. Underrated! Made in USA and I'm thinking going with the 2.0 metal Performance Center
I love my shield plus but I also love my officer sized 1911(9mm) as well. Started out shooting metal guns(1911 and cz) first so I’m more accustomed to the feel and weight. But that shield plus is a beautifully and ergonomically designed pistol.
Subcompact 100%. I’ve had one for 6 months. Apex trigger because the hinge trigger’s not the sweetest. Subcompact has a pinky extended grip 12rnd mag. Longer barrel and heavier slide for better recoil control. Extended mags are sick. Sure it’s thicker and not better for concealed carry but let’s be fr anyone can hide that subcompact. Longer grip on the shield is actually more difficult to conceal than the thickness of the subcompact just like you said. Appreciate the vid
I have both. Great investments. Great for EDC. With the Shield Plus you can get 13 round magazines (the lowest amount of ammo I go ). The bill 2.0 Compact 3.6 can use full size 17 round mags with the grip extender.
I have the shield plus as my EDC, I purchased a Glock G26 Gen 5 thinking it was smaller, looks smaller, well drop the 12 rd mag out of the Shield, and they are the same size, S7W may be a bit thinner in the grip, but go a day with that grip up next to your skin, and wow, I got a Talon grip wrap for my shield plus, but I also discovered the G26, at least for me, shoots better, not sure if the grip angle or what, but it feels less snappy then the S&W does
How's the shield plus compare to something like the m&p compact 2.0 3.6 barrel as far as size goes. Didn't handle them personally but it seems that with the extended mag on the shield it is exactly the size of the compact and with the compact you get 15 mag straight out of the box that sits flash to and the grip is longer
SPN I think I’ve shared this with you before but…sadly I found myself in a self defense situation and had to use my custom shield plus for self defense😪the victim survived luckily. It was in self defense but I could of left the scene b4 things escalated and I was 18 at the time so Yk I never got the gun back. With all that being said…not to glorify or any of that bs the situation was sad. But I am someone who’s had to use this gun to defend my life…so here’s what I’ll say about it. It’s reliable and even though blinded by pepper spray I landed all 4 shots and the grouping was about 3 inches shaped In a triangle which is insane. I know I’m pretty accurate and it’s the shooter more so than the gun but even with the jumpiness of the gun I was able to land all 4 shots blind. It has a snap forsure but I didn’t train so 🤷🏾♂️goes to show even me inexperienced scared for my life and blind I was able to defend my life hitting all 4 shots. It’s a damn good gun. Btw I wasn’t shooting recklessly how they tried to portray in my case …rather I knew the general area of my target and shot towards them hitting one 4times.
I still have the original Shield with the 7+1 & 8+1 magazines. When the plus came out I was living in a communist state that had 10 round magazine limit so I couldn’t get the 13 round magazine. I no longer live in that state so I did purchase the M&P 9 subcompact that came with 2, 12 round magazines and the extensions for 15 & 17 round magazines. I love it, you can’t go wrong with either one.
I just picked up the shield plus , but my front sight is off slighty . It’s not lined up with the rear sight correctly. Being as I don’t have the tool to adjust it myself , that is a major issue
What surprised me about the M2.0 series was the thinner, more svelte grip compared to the first Gen M&P or other double stack handguns Also I'm in the camp of the texture is a little too abrasive, not in the hand but in the holster against the body. The Shield Plus is thin but it shoots like a much larger gun. Both are excellent choices for CCW.
Ive been carrying the SHIELD PLUS for 2 years now. Absolutely love it. Carry with the 15 round mags in a VEDDER LIGHT TUCK. With that said. I am LOVE STRUCK with the M&P COMPACT 2.0 OPTIC READY. That flat face trigger is sweet and love a lil more grip width. Great video my man. Keep doin you!!!
Currently working on getting my CCW license. I’m looking to AIWB carry. Not sure if I should go g19, M&P 2.0 compact with a thumb safety or a CZ p07. All very different. Kind of scared to have loaded gun pointed at my junk all day tbh.
I feel you. The Glock psychically cannot go off and the M&P you could get the safety version. I have never shot the p07 but my other cz’s are amazing too. You’re safe with all of them
Get a good Kydex holster and you’ll be fine. Carry AIWB inside your house with snap caps before you commit to EDC’ing daily and you’ll see how safe it is! I recommend the subcompact M&P because it can take a TLR7A and a 17 or 23 round OEM mag. That level of modularity will help out a lot! Best of luck.
I had these same concerns when I was looking to carry. In short, I like my m&p over my cz p07 and my Glock 19/17 peers are impressed with how flat shooting the m&p is by comparison. Once I understood the internal workings of the gun and learned proper trigger finger discipline, I'm not as concerned with shooting my junk off. Train properly. Even shorter, I've become a S&W fanboy.
I carried a shield for three years and they don’t print nowhere near as much as the M&Pc cuz the shield is so thin that it doesn’t protrude outward from your shirt. I love the whole M&P line but I like the M&P compact the most(not the M&Pc) because it has a slightly longer grip than the M&Pc while keeping just about the same barrel length unless you get the 4 inch compact which is closer to the full size barrel. Overall tho I’d prefer a shield plus over the other simply because it’s so much more comfortable to carry to the point I’d forget that I had it on me at times. I haven’t carried a shield since 2021 cuz I switched back to my Glocks for edc but I’d still carry any of them if I had to. They are really great guns and super reliable! And I’m starting to see more and more law enforcement being issued/carrying M&P’s as duty weapons💪 they are proven
What size barrel is the 2.0 , I'm looking at a 3.6................ had the Gen 1 shield too but sold it, the safety sucks on these guns in my opinion !!!!
I’m enjoying your channel because you like same pistols that I like…. I’m a Hellcat fan boy too. I wanted to know your opinion between the 2.0 subcompact and and the P10s?
Ugh a lot of people have been asking me that. Honestly, they are equal. They are so different. The trigger is better on the cz for edc but I like the magazine compatibility with the smith and Wesson. Both are reliable so I would say go with what fits your hand the best! Respect
As much as I like the MP-2's Ambi controls, the Shield is just too thin for me to ignore! Especially after carrying my PDP F-'atty' Series for so long!😆
I have the M&P M2.0 4.6” 10mm, 4” .45 and the one being reviewed on this video, and absolutely love them. No malfunctions on any of them. Since you have the shield. Have you tried interchanging the mags? Do they work on each other?
If you get a holster with a barrel bump and grip wing, you can conceal almost any gun. A good holster and good belt can conceal a bigger gun easily. I carry the M&P 2.0 9 Compact 4” AIWB all season, no issue. (All bodies are different and position holstered vary, but advice still stands) *barrel bump: has extra material on holster by the top of the barrel to press the gun into you and not hang out/forward. **grip wing: presses belt out under grip so shirt covers the grip and the grip doesn’t print.
I feel like I gotta really good deal I bought my smith and wesson shield plus when it first came out bought it for 399 plus tax now I see it's priced at 499 !! I think that's a good steal
You don’t bitch about recoil and I love it so let me ask you SPN on some real shit vs the shield and the hellcat which one is snappier and how big of a difference is there?
The Hellcat is snappier (IMO) than the Shield and often referred to the snappiest of the micro 9’s. Dollar for dollar it’s hard to beat the Shield Plus.
Actually the compacts are only 0.1 wider then the shield plus is when you get it wo the saftey.. this is something I just figured out.. the m&p firearms have always been just 1.16 in width.. the shield plus 1.10.. a proper compact size not sub.. its 15+1 with actually .01 less height then the shield plus is with the 13rd mag.. Infact if you go to the 3.6” compact 2.0.. you are actually sake length more or less same height pre or less.. and same thickness more or less to a 43x.. I just figure this out not 1hr ago myself and now sitting here wondering if more people actually knew this would this larger slim 9 ting even exist? Would we have even gotten the micro 9? If you didn’t notice the extra 0.1” width going from the shield to the shield plus you are nothing to notice the difference going from the shield plus other compact versions.. Now the craze is al these xl versions.. you are essentially just buying a gun that already existed for many years In the compact m&p’s I actually feel stupid for not having known this.. I’ve always been partial to the shield size and grip design I these micros cause it’s always been the most shortable for me.. seriously wish I’d how this years ago I’d have just gone subcompact M&p had a more capable platform.. easier to shot and for more or less the same profile firearm.. Doubt me actually look at the specs of the 3.6” compact 2.0 and compare it to tire favorite micro 9.. I mean it is equal to the shield plus.. bears out the43x and its variants like the cr920x, xl sigs, hellcat pros… we had seriously been chasing and coming back full full circle to something that already existed but I think like Kenny didn’t really know. I only ca across this cause I’ve been I the market for a newer edc from my shield 2.0 just got my daughter a shield plus with red dot and everything. And been wanting a cr920xp for a while now.. I’m now to the point figuring this out.. now do I go carry comp or 3.6 2.0.. until walther makes a slimmer version of say the pdp I don’t know how anything really on a shot ability and usability scale competes tbh.. and that is it even getting into price..
M&Ps are the best kept secret (especially the cost) in the polymer frame firearm game! Great review and vid.
they are both called m&p thats why people were asking for the clarification i guess
👍 agreed
Agreed. I luv my 2.0 Compact 3.6. With the Apex Trigger and Floyd Magwell, it is perfect!
Best kept secret is the p10c buuuut I love the M&P 2.0s more

Were you able to find an optics ready 3.6 subcompact? If so where did you get it? They are unobtanium, I didn’t realize they exist.
Are you referring to the 3.6 compact? I have yet to see flat faced 3.6 SUBcompact like the one in this video
Damn that MP compact look good
It’s great so far!

Using my 17 round mag in my EDC subscription! Can you order? Find a local FFL person or business. Love this handgun. One of the best at any price IMO.

I carried an M&P 9c 1.0 for a few years. It’s right between a G19 and 26 in size. With the flat base mag it concealed pretty well.

Thank you so much for doing this video! I love my Shield Plus, but I'm still torn between the G26 and the M&P9SC for an SHTF carry gun.
No problem! They are both great. I would just say Glock parts are the most common and easy to replace parts out there.

It is almost identical in size to the p365X (or the 365 with the 12 round mag).

Everyone takes recoil differently so that’s how it could be for you. The 26 is less snappy for sure due to the weight and grip angle in my opinion.
What about the carry weight comparison?
I’ve shot some 1911s and it’s kind of taught me to ride the thumb safely so I love the design of the newer one tbh
Jesus, SPN always has the video I need lol. Deciding between these two right now, wanting something a little bigger than shield plus I think.
How's the shield plus compare to something like the m&p compact 2.0 3.6 barrel as far as size goes.

1. Glock 26

4. FN 503
5. Glock 30 sf

Personally think the wider the gun the harder it is to carry. I will take a bit more grip length over a wider slide/grip anyday.
I used to think the same but the heel of the shield plus sticks out more than i would like it to despite being what i thought the better option
If you get a holster with a barrel bump and grip wing, you can conceal almost any gun. A good holster and good belt can conceal a bigger gun easily. I carry the M&P 2.0 9 Compact 4” AIWB all season, no issue. (All bodies are different and position holstered vary, but advice still stands)
*barrel bump: has extra material on holster by the top of the barrel to press the gun into you and not hang out/forward.

Imo if you can get 3 fingers on the grip, it's no longer a micro
Never been a smith & wesson guy.

Spend the money, get the "performance center ". Trigger is almost perfect.
Now the craze is al these xl versions.. you are essentially just buying a gun that already existed for many years In the compact m&p’s
I actually feel stupid for not having known this..
The Subcompact has a pinky extension
The safety on the M&P 2.0 can be easily removed.
The sw m&p 2.0 subcompact and the m&p 9c are great guns and better than the shield
Plus.
Respect! Can’t argue with that!
Or
You get them without a safety.
