She's much more attractive than he is and his personality was surprisingly juvenile. The dirty joke should have been saved for his guy friends; treating a really beautiful woman like one of the guys was the wrong move.

This is the only episode of FD that I didn't make it through. I don't know what it was. She seems pretentious. He seems aloof. Maybe it's me :) I just couldn't finish it.

She was a generous listener, showed interest in him, and I thought sincere and quite lovely. She has a few old world graces, which are probably from her family culture, and I don’t think should be interpreted as phony by commenters. Not surprised he found love at work, surrounded by so many women!

Gents, this response at 8:45 is NOT what you want to see when dating a girl. It's the response of a girl who has low interest level in you. She should have a burning desire and say, "DEFINITELY!"
In the end, she reveals her low interest again with the hesitation. Although she says yes, her unspoken language says no. Listen to the latter.
In situations like this, the guy just need to step it up and next the girl. Find another one to date to save him time, heartache and potential trouble down the line.

I see a lot of similarities in myself with the guy. I tend to have major trouble with blurting out the first thing that comes to my mind, which is often a crude joke, and I also have trouble identifying the time and place for said jokes. I hope to take this as a learning opportunity.

After seeing quite a few of these dates and based on my experience it is safe to assume that if a man likes you he will insist on paying. Anyone who wants to split are not interested. As I've thought.
Disagree. Full pay or splitting isn't an indicator of interest to me. I split with my wife when it was dinner dates, and fully paid when it was coffee dates. Some people like conservative gender roles, so they want a man to fully pay but doesn't mean they're into the guy necessarily. But if you're progressive and believe in gender equality, you will be fine with splitting.

When are we going to see a successful First Date New Zealand episode again? Really, I am getting quite frustrated by the number of episodes lately that are duds in the end, that don't lead anywhere! Can't the show hire a professional matchmaker who can accurately match compatible people, who are both genuinely looking for a serious relationship? Is it really that difficult to do? Or is the problem fundamentally that this is at its core a reality TV show whose main (or sole?) purpose is entertainment and high ratings? (Side note: I found the woman to be very hot in her tight dress and all dolled up with her hair and makeup. I may have to emigrate to New Zealand from Canada, if all the kiwi women look at least this good! The guy was ok, with a sense of humour that probably puts off a lot of people, but can be a total winner with someone who appreciates his jokes.)

redo your teeth (braces, whitening, etc),
different haircut,
change up wardrobe,
3 months of weekly therapy to rev up his confidence level, and he could be a real hunk.
