Ricci has been on over 200 dates in the last three years, and is anxious to find that special someone to settle down with. Meeting Ricci tonight is pediatric nurse Carl. There are many components to attraction. I dated somebody is similar in my youth but he had a strange smell and that was that. Attraction is mostly gut, not brain. What seems great on paper can smell bad😆

Yep. Been on a couple myself in exactly that scenario over the last few months. Meet up, free dinner, then the obligatory "you're a really nice guy, but I wasn't sure I felt a connection" text the next day...never to hear from them again.
I don't think she's that bad, or she wouldn't have agreed to coffee, but she is stuck that image of The Perfect Man in her head who has to look a certain way, and she can't let it go.

Every time she said "that's amazing," I think her understanding of his worth (and perhaps her own superficiality) became more pronounced. I feel bad that she seemed trapped by her insecurities and her fears associated with not having everything in hand. Carl is a fascinating guy who could have opened new worlds for her; I somehow doubt her willingness to have ever allowed that to happen. In the circumstances, I think he was spared some frustration and heartache. I wish them both well.
She saw his good qualities, that's why she went on a second date, but she just wasn't physically attracted to him.

It's probably not realistic, but part of me hopes she has an epiphany.

I don't drink, and I've heard from women who say that makes them feel uncomfortable, because they feel it's not an equal level of socializing. I don't agree, but I get it.
@Skeezer66 a lot of people when it comes to socialising/having fun are "functioning semi-alcoholics". I spent 24-35 drinking a little, 1 or 2 per night out, and was told "you don't really drink properly" by irresponsible idiots who don't have much of a social life beyond drinking too much

I'll get straight to the point: she was turned off by his baldness. Period. End of story. Like many viewers, she saw and appreciated his value greatly as a good, nice, substantial, genuine person. But she just couldn't see past his baldness. My question for the producers of this show is: didn't you screen for deal-breakers like this among your first daters? Or did they actually ask these questions, but the young lady (and many others) didn't answer truthfully? Or maybe these potential First Daters are deluding themselves and are truly unaware of their own (often superficial) personal deal-breakers? In any case, this gentleman deserves and will surely meet the right woman, who will appreciate what a gem he is - and not be bothered at all by his baldness.

Ricci doesn't have that much going for her, especially after calling herself the Portuguese Ninja, so it's anyone's guess why she has the nerve to complain about someone else. Run, guys, run!

As the date went on, a small part of her realised she misjudged him. It confused her at the same time and she wanted to learn more. In the end, she let a good catch slip through her fingers.

I'm bald and I can say some women dont like it and its a deal breaker. I went from 5 to 10 matches a day on bumble to about 3 or 4 matches a day. The good news is that theres still a lot of women our age who dont care if you shave your head.

Hair is something that we don't have control over, she can meet a guy with a full head of hair, fall in love, and he loses his hair, what we should do.
Quick observation: In UK First Dates episodes and even a few other countries, the producers seem to understand that people who look alike tend to be similar and also like each other. Go back and look. if there is a strong similarity in their facial structure and features, they will probably like each other. NZ First Dates either missed the memo or they don't believe it, but everyone they match looks completely different and not surprisingly no genuine connections are ever made. Hair or no hair, these two look nothing alike and as expected they are very different types of people, too.
This just proves my point even more that First Dates UK & Ireland are in a league of their own in comparison to NZ & Canada. Honestly, it’s like watching 2 totally different shows.
Canadian here and I fully agree with you. The UK and Irish versions are by far the best. The Aussie version is not bad. The American version is so-so.
