    Terrific video. We went to Mull ages ago when our children were young (they're now in their 30s), but I can see we didn't do it justice and we need to go back and see it properly.

    Thanks for the great video - we’ve recently moved back ‘home’ to Kendal having spent almost five years living on Mull. So it brought back happy memories of our time there.
    It certainly is a very wild place and invigorating being in touch with the ever changing elements. Winter weather on Mull can be quite challenging but also amazing. I’m so sorry you were plagued by the dreaded ticks - they really are everywhere (we even had them in our garden!) and can certainly influence where you roam on the island. But as you say it is a truly awe inspiring place and very addictive.

    Nice vlog of your adventure.
    Maybe get some Lifesystems EX4+ spray, it contains permethrin, you spray it on your cloths, fabrics, tents, boots etc and it deters the blighters, also lasts for quite a long time and doesn't wash off easily, is colourless and odourless.
    It's not nice to resort to chemicals but there's some real nasty diseases spread by ticks etc

    • @joshandsarahride
      @joshandsarahride  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, really appreciated! Yep, we've now picked up some permethrin we'll use for coming trips. Fingers crossed we don't come across the same amount again!

    well I'm glad to see that the bay of Calgary looks a lot nicer than the city of Calgary 😂 Did you happen to pick up any tick fighting tips or tricks while on the island?

    • @joshandsarahride
      @joshandsarahride  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was a very pretty bay! Umm, people had said about using Smidge or midge repellant on clothes. Also treating gear with permetherin which they don't like. To get them off your stuff, using the sticky clothes brushes or duck tape (we just used a wet hand, though it wasn't that effective). To not get them in the first place, DON'T GO IN THE TALL GRASS 😅😅 this became a bit of a running joke along the trip...

  • @derekbrady4481
    @derekbrady4481 ปีที่แล้ว

    Enjoyed watching your trip 👍 could be one for me at some stage. How did you pickup so many ticks & what did you do to avoid them thereafter ?

    • @joshandsarahride
      @joshandsarahride  ปีที่แล้ว

      We would definitely recommend - it was stunning. Steer away from bracken and I wouldn't go bushwaking. It seems like it's been particularly bad this year!

    • @goblinpiper
      @goblinpiper ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joshandsarahride I've heard from a few folks up here that ticks are especially bad during the first rains after a long dry spell - and it seems you were camping in the first rains after Scotland's longest dryest spell in a long while. The ticks you had were also really really tiny which tracks with them just hatching after the rains. It's not always like this i swear!!

    • @joshandsarahride
      @joshandsarahride  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@goblinpiper the vast majority were tiny. And you're right, it was just after a long dry spell. Don't worry, would take a lot more to put us off 😁

  • @SwampyDuckRidesAgain3636
    @SwampyDuckRidesAgain3636 ปีที่แล้ว

    The irony of it all you were getting soaked and blown away and when I was there it was 26°+ and cyclists were collapsing off their bikes!
    There does seem to be a pattern of weeks each year on Mull when the weather is spot on.
    It was quite funny seeing you ride the island the opposite way round to me but those roads are so recognisable.

    • @joshandsarahride
      @joshandsarahride  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ha, yes, sometimes you time it well; sometimes you don't 😅 in fairness, there was only 1 day of moderately demoralizing rain. Glad we could show you the ride on reverse! Did you check out Eas Fors? That place was super cool!
