The tip at 12:35 about rhthm is game changingfor me, as I wanted to cover this (I am a one piece) but couldn't work out how to get an acceptable backing track of my own as this is what I do- I record me doing many of the guitar parts in Ableton then play other parts over it live. This tip has just given me the perfect idea, as I can have a clean electric tone for the rythm, a recorded track of the acoustic picking, and I will be ready to unleash the solo and back again. Thank you!

you are a great teacher! i learned in about 10 mins you should add tabs tho. it would make the picking a lot easier to understand for beginners like me.

if you're still looking for a solution, just play the normal d chord with the high e open instead. sounds great. make sure you don't play the low e or a strings or it'll sound awful! in other words, just play what he's playing but don't worry about the fingering with your pinky and ring fingers

Nashille tuning. He used the high strings from a 12 string set on the D,A and E strings tuned to 12 string pitch.

imagine doing this on an amplified 12 string while hitting the base notes as well would be nice to hear but hard to play
On a 12 string I use a thin pick Dunlop .46 it flex easy and hits both strings almost simultaneously
