You are correct my friend. Use the right shear bolts and never have to worry. Gear boxes are not no cheap and on my Frontier SB1164 I don't want to wreck this one for the sake of a $4.00 shear pin. My dealer told me it's around $1,800 plus shipping and taxes and 6 weeks away. Excellent video.

100% correct in my experience with shear bolts.

I totally agree with you Dave. Buy extra exact replacement shear bolts at what ever they cost. Much better than having $$$$ in repair costs because they did not fail and took out other big bucks components. Just my 2 cents. Dan 😊

I'm with you Dave. I buy the proper bolts for a little more money.

You are in fact not blowing this out of proportion. I have got an old bx with snowblower on it and it would break bolts non stop on the asphalt part of my driveway. The gravel section was even worse. I don't know if it was a mistake I made with the shear bolts or something the previous owner did, but the snow blower impeller shear bolt would last at max 5 minutes before I had to replace it. I brought it in for service at the dealer and when all was said and done, it cost $1700 in parts and labor. Used it for the first time this year today for about 3 hours and it works flawlessly.

A lot of people don't understand sometimes you need to spend money to save money.

Very true from what I’ve seen.

I build my own shear bolts. I put a relief in it just as the original. Just turn it out in the lathe.

      If it works for you….

@@MtTopLiving I start with the recommended bolt grade, and add the relief in the correct spot. Its exactly what you can buy, just 10% of the cost. On my Honda 928HS blower the fan shear is a strange double step one and I make those also. I hate spending the big bucks on trinkets.

@1958johndeere620 I totally understand, it’s good to be handy.
