  • In a previous video we had a look at a customers 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee that had a customer complaint of the tach and speedo dropping out. We quickly discovered that the CAN B data bus was having some issues and we narrowed it down to the front control module and some corrosion. Now it is time to get it fixed.
    -Enjoy!

You have the rare ability to convey your knowledge. I always watch and i encourage anyone who fixes ANYTHING to watch your system, your procedure. I'm an EE and have done electronics and electromechanical repairs my whole life so I'm not against electronics, give me electronic ignition over points all day long. Node locked modules that require special tools to reprogram are bad enough, making them so they can't be reprogrammed is criminal.
For most folks a car is the second largest purchase they will ever make with their house being number one. Imagine if houses worked like cars. Your fridge dies but is node locked to your house. The only fridge that will work with your house is no longer supported and so you find a used one, but you can't program it to work with your house without knowing the guy with the special software to reset (hack) your fridge and then you have to pay $150 to access the house builder's website to program the used, reset, fridge just to get it to work. Nobody would put up with this with their house, but we bend over and take it when it comes to cars. Why?

@@jimbeaux1109 A modern smart battery charging circuit can sense the battery health and adjust. There is no need to rest 'battery learning'. The only reason to have such a system is to 'perhaps' keep track of the age of the battery to suggest replacement based on time.

I ordered a HVAC Module from LKQ, gave them the exact part number and recieved a blower resistor, hvac control head centerstack, and a blend door actuator before I received the HVAC Module. Also on a chrysler! 2016 Ram.

Halfway through this video I had a feeling you were going to have to have L1 give you a hand with this one, I'm glad he helped you sort this thing out, and I have a feeling you're right, without guys like Keith you are going to see more vehicles totaled out due to dead electronics.
Also, would it help to put some dielectric grease or Fluid Film up in that connector to help prevent this problem from happening again?

If I remember correctly, Keith entitled the last video in which he reconfigured some software for a car Eric was working on as, "Eric O. couldn't fix this car." BUT WE CAN! I wonder if he's going to post anything on his channel about this.....Looks like we're going to have classic 2015 cars showing up at car shows after all! GREAT VIDEO!

Super interesting how you accomplished the fix on this car. Expanding your team by using Keith's expertise to enable the 'new' module to be re-configured was excellent and crucial to fixing the problem. I suspect a lot of other shops would have said, "...this module is no longer available--sorry, can't fix this."

Eric, I am going to again say your customers are si fortunate to have you as their mechanic. I know you spent some money to get y tech, and more to see if you can reprogram the vin, and make the airbag system happy, but I am wondering if next time you can just call Keith b4 purchasing those expensive rip off subscriptions from Chrysler. The good news is that all makes have issues, but Chrysler takes the cake, when it comes to repairs overall, especially as they age. Much respect to you sir.

Great job Eric! I had a laugh when you mentioned that "we're" not going to be having any classic car shows with 2015's and newer showing up....That's so true. The more a vehicle becomes software defined, the easier it is to become obsolete.
