    Dude ! thank you for this. I know it's an old post, I was stuck not seeing the outputs on my busses to UA'S console so I could set up separate headphone mixes for a session. I googled for hours and got noting then at 2:00 into your video go to / the MIX/ generic to names provided my your interface. HELL YAH ! was driving me crazy, also the rest of the video was full of very valuable infoThanks !

    Great video, but I believe the last bit about headphone amplifiers is incorrect. Both the ART and Behringer units have stereo aux inputs, so you would use an insert cable, TRS to dual TS, and plug the TRS into the stereo aux input. Each of the TS plugs go in the left and right channel outputs, respectively, on your interface, say, output 1 and 2 for your main stereo mix.
    The signals are not summed, but rather are transmitted separately on each cable and at the TRS plug the left channel inputs on the TIP, the right inputs on the RING, and the SLEEVE is ground. This is how they get away without having individual mono inputs for each channel.

      @@mini.masterclass I was able to confirm this works today with the ART Headamp 6 Pro. Connected the outputs of my Focusrite Saffire 56 to the stereo aux inputs on the rear side of the HeadAmp using Dual TS to TRS insert cables. Works just as the manual suggests.

    Hi, I have a question in regards to the section at 13:38 about more than 2 headphone mixes and using an external headphone amp.
    Now, my understanding is that in order to take the line outs from that Focusrite 18i20, it would need to be in stereo pairs. (E.g. Output 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, etc.)
    However, most cheapish headphone amps, like the Beringer HA6000, only allow one Aux input from the interface.
    Now, would I be able to send a mono signal from say output 1 from the interface into input 1 on the headphone mixer and just have a mono mix for each set of headphones?
    (E.g. Output 1 -> Input 1 headphone amp, Output 3 -> Input 2 Headphone amp, Output 5 -> Input 3 Headphone amp, etc.)
    Otherwise, how else would I connect that interface or indeed any interface to a single Aux Only headphone amp?

    I’ve been looking for a video on this for months because I couldn’t seem to get the headphone mix to play at the same time as the stereo output! I figured you always had to switch back and forth between stereo output and interface which makes it extremely difficult in a session! I’m so excited to try this out tonight !!!!!!

    Hi, thank you for you contribution to humanity, this video is very helpful.
    May I ask you a question about some minor issue regarding the send tab configuration. I see, when you click on the send tab, it shows the BUS option and right below it shows an OUTPUT option. In my logic it only shows the BUS option. I want to use the OUTPUT option in order to use an external effects procesor such as a Lexicon. How do you assign this OUTPUT option?
    Sorry for bothering with this, but I'm a little frustrated.

    Chris, thanks! I've got four headphone mixes, as you laid out, two from my interface's headphone jacks, two from its line-outs (plugged through an old interface and a small mixer). QUESTION: What if the engineer wants to hear a musician's mix at the same time they are, switching through each one? Can this be routed within Logic?

    • @stevenvanderwerff9488
      @stevenvanderwerff9488 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. You don't send the sends directly to an output, but to a HP Bus within Logic. You send the bus output to Main stereo out (for your reference) and you create a send to the HP output (pre fader) on the HP bus.

    Exceptional Chis! I have only a question about latency in reverb sends situation. If we want to put a reverb in a specific HP mix through a send, it brings so much latency. So then, I activate Low latency mode. But this automatically will ignore the send because it's latency. So, we are in trouble again. I often resolve this putting the reverb as an insert and not as a send... but it's not the best solution i guess. I would apreciate if you know how to achieve the solution of this problem!

    Great video as always! The only point I thought you'll cover is how to combine different amounts of an effect to each headphone mix, e.g. Reverb for Mix 1: Kick=-10dB, Snare=-20dB; Reverb for Mix 2: Kick=-7dB, Snare=-3dB. I'm assuming the only way is to do this is to duplicate the effect buss?

    Best video ever. I have the Clarett+ 18 (almost exactly same as 18i20 that you talked about in the video). Both units send use channels 7/8 for the 1st headphone output on the front of the unit. When I have sends on faders ON, it all works as you detailed in this video. My question is, when I turn SEND ON FADERS to OFF, how can I hear the MAIN mix again. Because as it stands now, I can't be plugged in to the same headphone jack (jack 1) and hear both the main mix (sends on faders off) and headphone mix (sends on faders ON for that mix). Is there a way to set that up in logic? Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong on that part of it?

Do you have a video somewhere that outlines the pathways and cabling to get from Logic back into your interface and then from your interface to wireless IEM transmitter? Also, that Tascam headphone distribution amp seems like what I'd need, but how do I get Logic to link up with it? I don't see any clear way to connect it to your computer or to link it with another interface. Sorry if that's noob of me. Any videos on any of this would be great!

    Super helpful! I am also using that ART headphone amp with an Allen & Heath QU-16 as an audio interface. I naively thought that i could just route some mono signals to the ART and at least boost a few key channels while we are all recording in the same room. Alas, the phase gets reversed! So adding more actually subtracts it from the mix. I eventually gave up on that out of frustration. I still haven't found a great budget solution. :( That TASCAM has potential though. :) (you turned my frown upside-down)

    Chris Re: the outputs on the back to create extra headphone channels. Would this method also work if you wanted to include a stereo amplifier (and Hi Fi speakers)? I have a pair of very good Focal JMLab speakers that I'd like to add to my recording/mixing system. (I have good headphones) I have an Audiofuse Studio and recently replaced my Samson speakers with Genelecs. The Genelecs sounded so much better than the Samsons that I decided to not use the Samsons as B speakers. I've trawled the internet in how to add the receiver (or just the Focals?) but with no luck.

      If i understand what you're saying, you want to include a different set of speakers to your monitoring set up? Why not use a speaker selector switch? You would use you the main output of your audio interface into speaker selector then connect the speaker selector to your speaker pairs.

    Okay so important question: What about when you set up a headphone mix through outs 3-4 like this, but then when you click low latency recording, it turns out 3-4 OFF on every channel as part of the low latency mode? Is there some way you can change the low latency recording settings, & be able to choose exactly what gets turned off when hit low latency mode? It seems like that would kind of defeat the purpose, but at the same time turning off the headphone mixes while trying to record vocals DEFINITELY defeats the purpose of low latency recording haha. I haven't been able to find a work-around for it so far so if you have any answers I'd love to hear them!
    P.s. I love your channel, it's the best LPX channel around, hands down, so thank you

    There's a bug in soloing with Solo Safe on a Q-send. (LP 10.7.4) You can't solo a track within a group if that group is sent to the Solo Safe'd outputs. It doesn't solo the track. Solo Mode selects the whole group (regardless of group settings) and the solo button doesn't solo.
