yeah this channel is GOATed for sure. no nonsense - popped up on my feed right after I got back from rehearsal. harder and harder to find good channels like this.
Arranging tracks in the mixer view is nice, it almost made me cry. However, to be fair, you could arrange mixer tracks with the same result before already, just from the tracks view, not from the mixer view. You were able to add aux channels to the mixer/arrange them by enabling the read mode, so that it becomes visible in the tracks view. Really cool features in this update though.
Yeah you can get very creative with that kind of thing. Ive had an EH Freeze pedal for years, and some sounds you would never guess what the origin was. Really cool to see features like that being implemented
I am a mix engineer and I use both Pro tools and Logic Pro to mix records, ands this is what I HAVE BEEN ASKING FOR. Now switching between Daws won't feel like I am loosing something that has been in Pro tools for almost 20 years.
Fabulous summary. Oh wow - these are great changes - I love the new momentum Logic has across Mac and iPad (I use both). The track/bus rearrangement feature is a freaking revelation. OMG… I’ve been waiting forever for this.
It's great that you can re-order the channels in the mixer. However, my long desired feature is that I want to be able to order my channels differently in the mixer and main project window. For example, the project window, I might want my lead vocal at the top and drums at the bottom but in the mixer I want drums on the left and vocals on the right. This might seem like a small thing but it would really help the way I think about about my arrangements and my mixing - which are very different processes. As far as I'm aware, Digital Performer is the only DAW that enables you to "de-couple" the mixer order from the arrangement order.
There wasnt any reason to update to logic 11 before but the new search plugins are huge. I already have plugsearch and that works a little better than what's shown here so I don't need that but I'm really glad they decided to finally include some of those features natively. Bouncing multiple regions in place simultaneously is a great addition too
I was a big plug search user, just as you are I’m sure. But as you can see being able to search input, menus and send menus is very cool feature that plug search cannot, it also takes longer to execute. That being said, I will still be using plug search with my stream deck as you can with the push-up button and bring up your favorite plug-ins
I bought Logic a few months ago, and the inability to move aux channels in the mixer view was literally a deal breaker for me - it drove me nuts. I'm old school, I want my mixer view arranged a certain way, no matter what order I create tracks, and that functionality exists in every other serious DAW. And not being able to directly search for plugs in the channel strip would have been the second deal breaker! Happy to see they've both been fixed, now I can give this a serious tryout.
Great update and perfect timing as it followed the underwhelming NI Maschine 3 upgrade. Being able to rearrange the mixer tracks is a huge improvement. Then they added the plugin search on top of that. This is amazing!
Great update. I wish they would do something about the incredibly limited filter and LFO inside Logic's Sampler, it really cripples using Logic as an all-in-one DAW.
Can't you just use an external filter and or LFO - like soundtoys? Or use Kontakt - many options out there - and that "cripples" usage??? Not for me or the vast majority of users imho
@ because a filter or LFO after the instrument isn't the same thing as inside the instrument. Just about every sampler going back to the early 1990s has a filter per sample, Logic has a filter per entire instrument. You're saying why not use Kontakt? If that's the case why include Logic's Sampler in the first place? People who use samplers need the filter and modulation capabilities in the instrument design, per sample/zone is the norm and Logic's is a very peculiar design in that you can have 127 samples spread across the keyboard but they're all affected by the same LFO/filter. I didn't say Logic is crippled I said that using it as an all-in-one is because the rest of Logic is very capable and having to use Kontakt takes away from that, especially when half the industry is trying to ditch Kontakt.
Nice update! My next wish is that they do something about the colours, ie: give us the option to colour-code the entire strip of the track. Like if I want red - or whatever colour - for all my drums, don't just give me red regions and a tiny little strip at the bottom of the track in the Mixer or in the Inspector. Just give me a nice, translucent red that goes all the way through, from the Inspector->into the timeline and region, just like a few other DAWs already have. Enough with that dated, boring grey.
Agreed! Many musicians are neurodivergent and colors are the way they can organize their mix. My go to is alway red for kick, orange for snare, yellow for cymbals, purple for bass, green for guitar, pink for piano and the best blue for vocals. This makes it o much easier for me to quickly figure out what’s what. Colors are so important.

For me, the best update is the “enable selected tracks” for record and midi. Why this wasn’t in the 1st release is a mystery. Was the most frustrating in logic 1000x more that the next frustrations
Holy moly! Some really great changes! I'm glad they aren't focusing on the AI gimmick...the only "AI" thing I have used is an "AI" vocal program, which isn't really AI but rather a type of voice synthesis. You program notes just like any other synth, and you have to babysit phonemes as well as phrasing and consonant placement so there isn't much "intelligence" to it unless it is from the user. THAT is what I would like to see Apple work on if they are going to force AI into updates and take time away from good features like what this update has. Put the gimmicks in Garageband if they want but focus on giving us professional tools. Otherwise, I hope they keep it rolling with the kinds of improvements we see in this update! Very glad to see it.
Well it is intelligent, because it has to decide how the specific voice would sound if it would sing a specific phoneme on a specific pitch in a specific length at a specific tempo. Not an easy task. The problem is that this process typically needs a lot of compute which is why these programs usually need an internet connection to do the work in the cloud. Not sure if apple really would want to integrate something like this into Logic. Would be really neat though.
Logic can already use all the cores? You just need to go into settings and say “all cores”? But if you do that, and a plugin has a memory leak or glitch then the whole computer could freeze or crash, instead of just Logic or the Plugin.
@ Correct. But that only counts for the performance cores. Not the efficiency cores. So like with an old M1 processor you can only use the 4 performance cores for plug-ins and instruments processing. Not the 4 efficiency cores. And yes, each performance core has 2 threads, you can all select in Logic to be used. So in case of the M1 SOC only 8 threads. The M4 Pro 14-core has a better P/E ratio: you can use its 10 performance cores in Logic. It would be nice if we can also use the efficiency cores for DSP processing like in Reaper or Cubase. And maybe later all GPU cores which in music production are almost unused (except when you connect 3 8K monitors. 😀
There's one update that was missed, and quite frankly, it's monumental. The ability to now zoom when nothing is selected around the pointer instead of zooming around the playhead. I love all the new features but I gotta say that is honestly the most important one for me. Zooming in logic with a trackpad makes things a little easier no doubt, but it was still a pain the way it was set up.
I would hope "all cores" would be highlighted as new feature..IF...it was implemented. Reaper, Cubase and ProTools are only DAWs I know of to use all cores. Reaper is a steep learning curve, but worth it...imo.
Call me back when we get per-project I/O labels so I don’t have to try to remember which random numbered send bus is the reverb (or waste two seconds waiting for the tooltip). Waiting about 20 years now…
@@zero2herobeatspaul882 You can rename a bus’s channel strip, but the sends and output selectors still say “Bus 1”. The name only appears in the tooltip. You can change it in I/O Labels but that’s machine-wide, not per-project.
I wish the Ipad logic had score on it. Though these new updates will enhance my workflow. Ipad score would allow me to create, change and edit charts for musicians on the spot in a rehearsal.
Ahh it seems the Logic team are back from the vacation Great video,, anyway of making sharing a project easier is always helpful I still have my trusty iPhone 6 and the Atari dammm
i need them to make the gridline visible through the track region...honestly i don't know why they don't do that, its little thing but it helps a lot with the visual
well. now if you drag a channel around in the mixer, logic will automatically create track for said channel in the arrangement view. if you delete said track, you also delete the channel. i think this is a bit silly. i don't want a track for each of my busses/auxes in my arrengement. sure, you could use a track stack to hide them... but its's still silly. still, over all a nice update, especially the other QoL features. the reverb sounds alright i guess, i'll have to test it more.
Protools recently got an update and joined Reaper and Cubase to fully utilize all cores. This is Apple's own product! I would not only expect the best potential but more performance than competitors. How about employing that awesome GPU and Neural Engine on the plugins? Nobody has the resources to do that better than Apple.
really good stuff and quality of life improvements, really makes me think again if I don't want to get a mac for my professional work and switch to apple software
It's be great if we could insert a plugin on the channel strip with out having to move all of the ones below it. Like if it would automatically move all the ones below it down.
Part of me is convinced the rearrangement of the tracks in this video was just visual effects. I'm not sure if I'm ready for this after not having it for about 23 years. I'll have to mentally prepare before making the update.
It seems a little silly to me that I can rearrange tracks in the mixer when I have "Tracks" selected but when I have "All" selected the tracks revert back to their previous position and they can't be moved when that view is selected. But I am thankful the bug that was causing my Logic Pro to crash right at the moment I closed most projects seems to have been exterminated...touch wood and fingers crossed. 😊
The moving channel strips around was already in the arrange window including sub groups, this is a tiny minor update to consider a must have, one expected it to be there including searching the plugins, these are updates other daws added in additional minor updates sections of their update details, seems a bit sad Apple cant be innovating and acts like adding a knob on a door is a upgrade., funny part is the moving channel strips around (already in other daws since 2008+ including searching plugins) wont work in my m1 iMac OSX Sequoia
Funny how rearranging mixer channels is one of the most necessary features people have been requesting for decades and both Cubase and Logic release this feature within the same week!
Why does already applied plugins need to load again to the chain after putting a new plugin into it? It’s so annoying. Is this because of the au load ? Any settings to fix this? It’s a workflow killer for me
The moving of mixing tracks is very far from perfect as it creates tracks in the main window. When you do that for aux (typicaly the kind of mixing track you want to sort) you get a whole bunch of unwanted tracks in your main window. I should say this option is a first step and I hope Apple will improve that in the next updates.

Well i am new to this daw on iPad Pro and i am still learning, but it looks like i made the right choice
Even when i no longer use Logic as my main DAW, I'm happy about this features. I hope Cubase comes with a similar user experience approach.
Yall already got some good updates 😂copied Ableton
Cubase already has all of these features and more.Move channels in the mixer(V14), Bounce options, Search for anything from plugins to tracks
@@osmancolak yeah already since aweek :D
omgx finally search plugins exists!
bounce update is so needed also jeez.
Logic team at work!
AWESOME!!! Do you notice anything performance wise?
Thanks for your detailed introduction to logic pro 11.1 Update
I cannot see the update in my Apple Store. I am on a Mac Mini M2 with Ventura. Should I update OS to Sequoia as well? Is Ventura not supported?
Thanks! Great review.
And now for Logic 11.2 which will use all cores in a processor.
And Logic 12 that will use the GPU cores.
Oh no this is bad 😔, it's so much slower now 😭
the gift that keeps on giving
Searching plugins is what I've wanted since I switched to Logic last year. Is apple reading my mind?
Thanks for the thorough breakdown, Chris! Stoked!
wonder if its been optimized for M4 To use all the cores.???
I would hope "all cores" would be highlighted as new feature..IF...it was implemented. Reaper, Cubase and ProTools are only DAWs I know of to use all cores. Reaper is a steep learning curve, but worth it...imo.
Fantastic updates FINALLY!! And more - thx for the overview too….keep’em coming - have you been ‘off air’ lately? Cheers. JPMusic
Cool video. Is the plugin search only available for M Chips?
HEY IF I SOFTWARE UPDATE MY MAC, WILL I LOOSE MY PLUGINS??😅
I had no problem updating from 10.8 to 11
@@jamesboddington9565 oh ok thanks!
Call me back when we get per-project I/O labels so I don’t have to try to remember which random numbered send bus is the reverb (or waste two seconds waiting for the tooltip). Waiting about 20 years now…
I always rename buses in the mixer to reverb or delay or whatever, or are you talking about something else?
@@zero2herobeatspaul882 You can rename a bus’s channel strip, but the sends and output selectors still say “Bus 1”. The name only appears in the tooltip. You can change it in I/O Labels but that’s machine-wide, not per-project.
I wish the Ipad logic had score on it. Though these new updates will enhance my workflow. Ipad score would allow me to create, change and edit charts for musicians on the spot in a rehearsal.
Amazing update!!!!
Ahh it seems the Logic team are back from the vacation
Great video,, anyway of making sharing a project easier is always helpful
I still have my trusty iPhone 6 and the Atari
dammm
What a nice suprise they fixed the "unfixable" No audio on pre-roll punch-in. plagued us for over 20 years.
How can I get this update? It’s not showing in the App Store. I have is 13.7 M2 Max which I believe satisfies…
As always. Great Video!!!!
Very useful updates!
i need them to make the gridline visible through the track region...honestly i don't know why they don't do that, its little thing but it helps a lot with the visual
Yay, but still.. no info om which plugin has reported a problem 😔
Can I move channel strips not appearing in the arrange window? Like busses.
Yes but when you do I think they show up in arrange window strangely
@@SoftClip_QI think you may be able to hide them from view again, not sure
@ yeah you can with the hide track stuff good point
Any possibility yet we can rename I/O insert like we do in every every DAW?
Thank you so much for the video. I checked the app store and it shows 11.0.1 as the latest. How did you get the new version?
Can you make a video about how to properly sidechain bass and kick. Thanks in advance
well. now if you drag a channel around in the mixer, logic will automatically create track for said channel in the arrangement view. if you delete said track, you also delete the channel. i think this is a bit silly. i don't want a track for each of my busses/auxes in my arrengement. sure, you could use a track stack to hide them... but its's still silly. still, over all a nice update, especially the other QoL features. the reverb sounds alright i guess, i'll have to test it more.
Super cool, but how about getting brutally fast sample selection and switching to find the right kick / other sample.
Nice, but does it use efficiency cores yet?
Right???
Protools recently got an update and joined Reaper and Cubase to fully utilize all cores. This is Apple's own product! I would not only expect the best potential but more performance than competitors. How about employing that awesome GPU and Neural Engine on the plugins? Nobody has the resources to do that better than Apple.
Wow, new options that have been available on Digital Performer for decades! :D :D
really good stuff and quality of life improvements, really makes me think again if I don't want to get a mac for my professional work and switch to apple software
It's be great if we could insert a plugin on the channel strip with out having to move all of the ones below it. Like if it would automatically move all the ones below it down.
Nice video again!
Ohhh!!! Ahora Siiii!!! muchas gracias
great update! Now give us a killer channel strip and advanced noise reduction and we are in business.
Part of me is convinced the rearrangement of the tracks in this video was just visual effects. I'm not sure if I'm ready for this after not having it for about 23 years. I'll have to mentally prepare before making the update.
Why no phase button?????
Because it apple. Hipsters dont need phase button.
I doubt they'll ever change that.
Have to insert a gain plug-in. More clicks but thats the way it is.
Thankyou :) is there a place where you can provide feedback? I hate how finicky the chords feature in global tracks is.
Great video! Thank you Chris!
Finally. Reaper has had these features for years.
It’s a workflow killer for me
Thanks as always Chris!
App store says Sonoma (14.4) required for 11.1. I'm stuck at Ventura (13.x) due to hardware so 11.0.1 is the last upgrade for me I guess. Oh well...
Is there a 8(any) bar jump for example where I can type in bar # 1 then type bar 32 in real play time?
The moving of mixing tracks is very far from perfect as it creates tracks in the main window. When you do that for aux (typicaly the kind of mixing track you want to sort) you get a whole bunch of unwanted tracks in your main window. I should say this option is a first step and I hope Apple will improve that in the next updates.
good and compact information, thank you
