    We’ve created an unfullifing society. We’ve devalued having and raising kids ourselves, we have devalued face-to-face interaction, we’ve devalued relationships, we’ve increased consumerism and celebrity culture and narcissism all of which are unfulfilling

    It took a pretty radical step to get me out of years of depression. Literally threw myself in the deep end, moved to the other side of the world and got random jobs to support myself, feel more independent. Made me more confident in myself and abilities and it was just a knock on effect from there. It worked for me but for others I could see it going the other way and make them feel even more isolated.

      Glad it worked out for you, but since everyone's depression is different, everyone's solution is also going to be tailored to themselves. I also threw myself to the other side of the world, and it helped a little bit but not much. I lift weights, have a job, am in a master's program, and do something social at least once a week, and I'm still depressed as fuck.

      That's how it is for me. I 110% know that depression runs both sides of my family, more my mom side of the family (multiple members have committed suicide), my parents are loving but not emotionally the best when it comes to support and comfort since they where emotionally and physically abused through their childhood, so of course I have bad depression and anxiety, and to top it off I have thyroid problems. It's a lot to carry for almost 27 years of my life and the last couple of days I've been having really REALLY dark thoughts, like questioning my existence kind of thinking. As a whole of society though, I think we're all exhausted in every way shape and form.

I used to think about how pointless life is and everywhere I went my mind would start looking for easy ways to kill myself, I hated how I felt. I’m still depressed some days but I don’t want to kill myself anymore. A huge factor that’s helping is my diet, I now eat like my body is a literal machine and I need only what’s best. Processed foods are gone. I started lifting weights and training for a 26 mile marathon, and I’m working on building a meditation habit. Depression is bad. Lost my homie to Depression in September 2019. He was young 25yrs old. Man I miss him. He took his life and he just turned 25 in August 2019. Sad to see and hurts to be a part of it. Never thought I'd be a guy that lost a loved one to it. Thought depression was fake and people made it up to get they $ from Gov and Pills for them. I know now it ain't bullshit this shit is real. Be sure to check on your loved ones, family, friends etc. Those you care about. Ask them if they ok how there life is. That means alot to those suffering from this disease. Though my homie is gone he wont be forgotten. Wish he spoke he didn't tell nobody. He left his wife and child here. Rip Rey C. 🙏

      I think part of the issue is that there is shame surrounding the label of being “mentally ill.” People have used the status as attacks on presidential candidates, and courts allow plaintiffs and defendants to be attacked with such labels which can end up swaying rulings. You can even be denied jobs based on the status of having a mental disability.
      I think people here blaming you for your loss are ignorant. They don’t know the full circumstances surrounding your friend’s troubles, and none of us really know what role or lack thereof you had in his life.
      What happened is between you and God man. I wish he found a way to keep marching forward, but even the strongest of us aren’t immune to succumbing to grief. It’s a very painful feeling being miserable every minute of your life, and not even knowing what exactly you’re living for; having nothing to look forward to.

    People are depressed because of:
    1. Genetics
    2. Trauma, bad childhood, unfortunate sequence of events that unfortunately snowballed
    3. Wrong thinking, terrible thought process, unhealthy high amounts of expectations, and ego

    • @SliceofBread123
      @SliceofBread123 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      1. Genetics don’t guarantee depression
      2. Not everyone that experiences trauma in childhood has a terrible life - although the #1 risk factor for substance abuse and addiction is childhood trauma
      I think one of the most overlooked factors is diet. Eating a meal of shit food makes you feel like shit. Multiply that by 3 meals a day, 365 days a year, by however many years, it’s easy to see how it can add up.

    • @williambullen3031
      @williambullen3031 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ApeHead Obviously the points I highlighted are not absolute 100% likely going to happen, genetics being a random card game in general, and for childhood trauma, individuals may rise above their predicament, or that their trauma wasn’t “traumatic enough”. They CAN still be the cause of depression however.
      I agree as well about diet being a factor of depression. Eat like shit, and wonder why one feels like shit, physically and mentally.

      Genetics no, it's all vitamin/mineral imbalances and hormones and chemical imbalances in the brain thanks to the things I mentioned above, taking niacin aka vitamin b3 and vitamin c in megadoses cures most brain diseases like bipolar, schizophrenia, adhd/add and more, also vitamin d, B12, b complex, copper and zinc, all diseases begins in the gut and that's what all these things is that all these people suffer from their birth then it just builds up from year and year, diet is everything, if you take a male for an example and run blood tests, it often comes to low testosterone thanks to deficencys in the things I mentioned and you also look at their diet with all depressed people and all depressed people have shitty diets, just a single lemon in water in the morning kills my anxiety and boost my mood to get shit done, just a single damn lemon

    • @williambullen3031
      @williambullen3031 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheJimmyswe150 Late reply ik, but genetics definitely does play a factor, but it doesn't overall determine the end results of your state of mind. The reason for the hormone and chemical imbalance is a product of your genetic makeup from the time of your birth. This is not to say that your genetics overtime is not determined by outside factors, because it is. I hope to not sound arrogant, but I personally have never experienced any internal physical sickness out of nowhere, and to the great scheme of things, have never taken into consideration of my health. The only illnesses I've received are from my outside environment. 40% of an individuals happiness level is determined by genetics, while the rest is under our control. Life is what we make of it, and happiness is a choice :)

    I remember years ago, a family friend was visiting. He was a psychologist. I asked him his view on depression, as one of our family members was taking Lithium for it at the time. His opinion was that there were 2 types of depression: one caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain, that required meds, the other was caused by our thought process. He believed the latter was much easier to cure.

    Everyone experiences bouts of depression in their life at some point. Whether it be grieving a family member, breakup of a relationship, losing a job etc. But these phases come to pass and you can come out the other end, that’s normal. Some people have clinical depression where they just can’t function and don’t know why they feel so low, it’s a scary thought. I just think modern society inhibits depression far more because there is so many ways we are scrutinised nowadays. The way we look, what we do for a a job, what we eat, every aspect of ourselves is picked upon. This is down to social media. Back in a more simpler time you went and did your job, came home to your family and that was it. You didn’t have someone messaging you on 5 different social media platforms telling you who followed your account or hasn’t liked your photo. It’s fucked up, and isn’t normal.

Life isnt hard for me, its just boring as shit. I no longer enjoy things I used to love. Like, memes back in the days made me laugh a lot, now the most I can do is giggle. I don't know, I am a point where everyone fears I kill myself but I don't really care because it would have been a well thought decisions. I have been thinking about it for years. I no longer care, when I talk about it I can even laugh because I no longer care. Cant be happy enough to enjoy life cant be unhappy enough to choose to kill myself in the near future. Knowing next year and decade will be worse as you ll get older.
    Most of depression would disappear if we were financially independent, that is true freedom. Studying 15 years followed by wage slavery for next 40-50 years only to die in your own piss and shit its depressing in itself

Do you not see that value of financial independence? Mood is one thing, but outside forces has effect on your mood. Financial independency would be a huge positive effect.

    Life is more stressful now definitely.
    I enjoyed it for the first 20-25 years but for the last 10 I've been stressed virtually every day and realised about 3 years ago I was depressed. Lost my lust for life, nothing excites me or brings me much enjoyment anymore. I don't really get that sad either. Just exist in a numb way. The main emotion I get is anger. I can flip my lid for any trivial thing, like someone doing 25 in a 30 or being short changed 20p at the shop lol. Trivial things like that cause me to get anxiety and feel drained after I've ranted for 5 mins.
    I cope with it ok I suppose and think it's just the way life is now.
    Can't put my finger on why I feel so fed up tbh.

      The part I really don't like and I'm eager to cure is my anger and frustration. I'm so easily angered and frustrated, more than I ever was and that turns me into someone I don't like and who my ex didn't like either.

I honestly think being outside more will help with mood because everyday, I can't help but notice that I feel happier than most people around me appear to be. I think the mix of being outside and having more physical activity helps keep my mood stable and optimistic. Not saying it's that simple for everyone because I am no psychiatrist, but from my experience, I think it's worth a shot. We are depressed because we are born into a system thats made to make us slaves. I see depression as apart of the spiritual awakening process. You ask yourself why do i exist? This is when you begin to discover self realisation.
    'Light can only be discovered with the wisdom of darkness.'
    Learn to love yourself, meditate, be grateful, be healthy and focus on the present moment. Listen to positive affirmations whilst you sleep and reprogram your subconcious mind. If you're depressed and reading this just know you have a choice. Believe me i know its hard but you are a divine human being with limitless potential.
    Remember this
    "Your belief become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits come your values, your values become your destiny." Ghandi

      I'm not depressed, i live a pretty basic life (i work on the week like 8 hours, yes is too much, but i enjoy my job because i found it, a good salary for My age 25), u just stop thinking about outside, about ppl and just think about You, u are the only one who matters, find something u love/like and embrace it, if it's hard to find, just fight for it, sounds cliché, but for me, sounds more cliché saying that ppl are depressed over shit that been happening since forever, our parents got it worse let me tell u that

    For me, it's the lack of connection with others. I don't have any friends I can regularly hang out with and talk to.....And on top of that, no hobbies or any goals in life. So it's just work and home, and being alone on days off not knowing what to do. And days where there is something going on, I'm working.....It's like everyone else already has lifelong friends and are "taken" already. Like I had to have grown up in this town with these people to have any sort of real connection with them.....My life barely started but I feel like its already over

    • @hecommentswithmyhandle1698
      @hecommentswithmyhandle1698 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sometimes to make a connection, you have to take risks. You'll be rejected many times, but you'll eventually find that kindred spirit. If you're unhappy where you are, if things can't get any worse for you, then you have nothing to fear by taking risks, even if you end up in an equally bad situation, you acted brave and gave life a shot. Cut your hair. Shave. Wear nice cologne. Do some nice gestures for people. Expect nothing in return. If no one ever loves you, then at least you became an awesome person yuh know. 👍 Don't sit in the dark. Step out.

      @@hecommentswithmyhandle1698 Idk what hair length has to do with anything lol but I'm doing what I can anyway. I have aspergers so socializing can be difficult. It's gotten a LOT easier since I was younger, but still that awkward factor and lack of words to say and what not. And feels out of place to say hi to anyone, like in the break room for example when everyone is on their phones. Feels weird to not be on mine and talk, like they're like "What the heck is this guy doing" Idk, I try though. It's a process I guess

    • @Ampwich

      @Olle Carlsson Amen to that.....I sometimes wonder if my insecurities and overthinking wouldn't be so bad if I just ever only saw people in person and not worry about what I'm posting and what not

      @@Ampwich There's other people with aspergers too. Maybe join a group. 👍 I wasn't criticizing your hair. I personally think guys can look attractive with it or without it, but I think most women prefer the clean cut look, I mean, if you're interested in finding a girlfriend or anything. I never had aspergers, but grew up incredibly shy and timid. People walked all over me lol. Now people can't shut me up. 😊 Social stuff comes n goes, but you'll eventually find a friend that likes you for you. 👍 For some reason, I think being young is rough. Now that I'm 36, I really don't care about what others think of me. It's good to care what others think, but not what they think of you. Your self-esteem will always fluctuate if it depends on others. And lots of people are jerks. So don't let that discourage you from keeping on trying ok. 👍 Loved your comment. Thank you for talking to me! 👍 Best of luck to you! 🎉

We are essentially animals which have been thrown into a circus better known as society where we each play a role to entertain the idea of “progression” we have not progressed at all.. we still die of famine, starvation, murder, disease, etc… we have made no progression towards world peace all we have done is drastically drained our natural resources.

    The list can go on and on as to why depression might happen to someone, but when depression comes around it’s best being prepared for it and knowing what can help prior. in my opinion, healthy diet, regular exercise, being out within nature and being strong minded and always remembering theres light at the end of the tunnel and finding goodness within a bad situation and learning will over come depression. I know it’s easier said that done but like I said being strong minded will win every time.
    I feel these days within the millennials being depressed has become the new “ cool “ and that depression and people being on anti depressants seems to be a normal thing.

    Despite the chemical imbalances that might be involved, the answer to this question lies in how hard life is. Everyone that is a bit wise on this planet knows this fact of life. No matter how rich and successful you are, the silence of the universe is all the same deafening at times: there’s no predetermined meaning to life. This is the biggest existential trap. To look into the abyss and not succumb, that is the true answer to satisfaction in life. To wake up every morning and know that you’re gonna die, that no effort will be rewarded. But still the wise person will get up and fight. Not because of ultimate universal meaning itself, but because it’s in the nature of life the will to grow and progress, even though we’ll be dead in a few years time.
