I have two gates with same hinge. I've learn how to make these adjustments over time as gate posts have settled slightly a new adjustments are needed. However, the spring on the door is a little two weak to shut gate tight all the time. I don't want my dogs to escape after mailman comes. So I would like to fix this. I notice the vertical hinge part has the spring. How do I tighten to make sure the gate snaps shut on its own???

Hello. We are working on a video, but it is not ready yet. Briefly however, there are two types - one with a round adjustment wheel with several holes in it at the top (or bottom) of the hinge barrel, and the newer style with a hex head hole in the top (or bottom) of the hinge barrel. There is a spring hidden inside the barrel. The old style requires that you use a small metal rod to put in the holes, and adjust the tension to the level you want, and hold it in place with small metal pin. The newer style is adjusted by putting the hex wrench into the barrel and turning a click or two to tighten it (it will stay after each click) or pushing down on the hex wrench to release the pressure. VERY IMPORTANT also is to use a little lubrication on the hinge barrel where you see the pieces rubbing together (the bushings). DO NOT over tighten the spring, and make sure to lubricate it FIRST.
