  • We often get asked these questions, "How do I adjust my vinyl gate?" and “How come my PVC gate isn’t latching properly?” Whether it’s a Liberty Fence & Railing vinyl fence gate or a competitor’s, adjustments are quite the same and it’s a relatively easy process. Anthony Strianese, owner of ‪@LibertyFenceRailing‬, shows you how to adjust your vinyl PVC gate in under three minutes. Grab your crescent wrench (not a vise-grip because you don’t want to destroy the nuts) and watch this helpful video, and you’ll be all set to adjust your vinyl PVC fence gate.

    I need to raise mine a couple inches. Had concrete poured after the install. Is my only option to move the hinges?

    • @LibertyFenceRailing
      @LibertyFenceRailing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Randy, If the hinge wraps around the entire gate upright, you can leave the part that is on the cemented post and take the screws out of the upright that is not filled with cement and raise your gate and reattach the screws. If you happen to have a gate that does not have a continuous upright, then you need to get a rotary hammer and a 3/16 or 1/4 inch concrete bit, depending on the diameter of the screws you have and drill new holes in the post. Not hard to do with a small hammer drill. A regular drill will work with a masonry bit, but it is not too easy to drill. Hope this is helpful.

      @@LibertyFenceRailing unfortunately I share it with my neighbor and I can't move it since it will impact his side on his gate.

    I have a similiar fence and over the winter my gate appeared to do the reverse and shift up not allowing for a clean open or close. Do you suggest that I adjust the bottom or the top hinge to lower the gate ?

    • @LibertyFenceRailing
      @LibertyFenceRailing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We suggest you adjust the top hinge and attempt to lower the gate by loosening the top. Hopefully the gate will clear the ground when you open it after the adjustment. Sometimes it may be easier to remove the latch bar off the swinging gate side and reposition it. Liberty Fence & Railing sells tiny plugs to fill in any screw holes after repositioning the latch bar.

      Thanks for suggesting removing the latch bar and repositioning it. I was going crazy trying to adjust the top and lower hinges and nothing was helping. After I read your suggestion i decided to try that and it solved the problem in only 5 minutes. Thanks

    What if there’s no room on bracket for additional tightening on upper gate bracket

    • @LibertyFenceRailing
      @LibertyFenceRailing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the hardware on your gate is installed with hex head screws, you’re in luck. Remove the hex head screws and replace them with pan head stainless steel screws. This will allow a half-inch more in clearance to adust the gate. We hope this information is helpful!

    • @LibertyFenceRailing

      You can change the screws to a more flat headed screw to give more room or you may need to have the width of the gate altered by a qualified fence installer.

  • @2002chow

    how do you adjust the self closing hinge to make the gate close automatically?

    • @LibertyFenceRailing
      @LibertyFenceRailing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most gate hinges that are self-closing have a spring inside the barrel of the hinge. Most of the time you can find the adjustment pin at the top of the hinge. Once in a while, if the hinge is installed upside down, the adjustment pin will be at the bottom. There is a series of holes in the barrel and you have to insert a small Allen key as leverage to turn the barrel clockwise and reinsert the stop pin. Do not make the gate spring too tight as is could injure a child's fingers if it slams too tightly.

    WD40 is a ‘penetrant’... I use a ‘lubricant’ for a better, more lasting helper. The rest of the vid was VERY helpful.

    The little nut that has to be tightened once in a while, just loosen it, put some crazy glue on the threads and tighten. You’ll never have to tighten it again.😉

    • @LibertyFenceRailing
      @LibertyFenceRailing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a good idea if you remove the latch and put the glue on the rear of the plate on threads.

    • @Joethebro101
      @Joethebro101 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LibertyFenceRailing I never had a problem just loosing the screw, exposing the inner threads and putting some crazy glue on those threads and then tighten. Works well with all my screws I need to stay tight.
