I've been doing a variety of crafts using a Cricut machine and more recently, sublimation. I'm very interested in what can be done with a laser. Your video showed some very interesting things that can be made. I like your creativity. Even though I'm very tech savvy, trying to decide whether or not to invest in this as mostly a hobby is challenging to say the least. There's a lot to learn. Thanks for the video. It was helpful.
@@thatlasercuttingguy3818 You shouldn't have issues with smoke coming out of the machine. The venting system sucks it out while the machine is running and sends it out your window.
Could you tell me what glue you use when putting pieces together? And where you purchase your wood from? Thank you so much!! Just getting into my Glowforge.
Hi! I always use either Gorilla Wood Glue or Super Glue, depending on the material. Use wood glue for any wood you are gluing together and you can use super glue for acrylic. I typically buy my wood products from Lasered By The Creek or Smokey Hill Designs. Acrylics from Houston Acrylic. They all have amazing materials. We actually just started a new business that you might be interested in (it's a private community with tons of monthly benefits including discounts on these material suppliers). We are launching April 30th. You can check it out here if you'd like: www.laserdesignclub.com/ but please let me know if you have any other questions. Congrats on your new laser journey!! :)
Hi Amy. I get most of my materials from smokeyhilldesigns.com/ In my opinion they offer the best quality and price. I get just about all my wood from them. This is where I get most of my acrylic from (CMS Acrylics) cmsacrylics.com
As far as what it can be used on, that is pretty much endless. Ive cut paper, wood, acrylic, and leather. Engraved on rocks, slate, cutting boards, you name it. If it fits in the machine you can pretty much work with it. It cannot cut metal however. Only fiberglass lasers can cut metals. You can engrave on them though if you use a special spray. Here's a little more information about everything you can work with. glowforge.com/faq/materials-and-uses#what-materials-can-glowforge-cut-engrave
Thank you very much! I use a Glowforge Basic model which is a 40 watt laser. It's a nice laser because it is compact and fits on a desktop and cuts wood and acrylic about 1/4" thick. Very easy to use. :) -Catherine

Hi! Thanks so much! I used Gorilla Super Glue when gluing acrylic together or when gluing acrylic to plywood. And used Gorilla Wood Glue for just gluing wood together.
I love your creations and the finishes that you use. It’s inspiring to see what you’ve been able to learn and create with your Glowforge. May I ask what type of paint you recommend using for your wood projects?
Thank you so much Leah! That’s so kind of you. And I use mainly acrylic paint. I usually use Waverly chalk paint for things like the name puzzles, but for more intricate things like ornaments, I use either paint markers that you can find at any craft store or I just use folk art acrylic paint. :)

Hi LaSheena! I have the basic model. I have a video on the different models to choose from... m.th-cam.com/video/PG-BXgzGZWM/w-d-xo.html But they all have very similar capabilities. The difference between the basic and pro is that the pro is the fastest in terms of cutting/engraving and it can handle much larger projects if that’s something you’re interested in. The plus is a step up from the basic since it’s also faster, but it can only handle projects as big as 19”x11” like the basic.
Thank you for this video! It was extremely informative! I’m a stay at home mom to 3 girls and I’m itching to find ways to earn an income while I can still be available at home for my family. Hi Karen! I have the basic but I hope to get the pro in the future because of the pass through. With that said, my basic works great and has gotten me where I am today, but if I had the money at the time, I would’ve gone with the pro. Plus it supposedly faster, which is something I’m personally interested in. If you have financial restrictions, the basic or even plus (faster than the basic) would be good choices.
Hi Catherine... I hope you don't mind me bothering you with another question... Do you use a adhesive tape on your wood so it doesn't burn and if so, where do you get yours?
No problem! This is the one I buy and use on wood... www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07DF7TDSF/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8 It’s paper tape, not vinyl (vinyl is harmful). I know that a lot of people use this for their Glowforge. The company doesn’t recommend it only because they say it can cause fire but I haven’t had issues.
