Would love to hear more about modern hockey being a game of numbers! For me, it's still crazy that Karlsson would require this much remedial work on fundamentals considering how long he's been in the league. I agree he improved in the clips you showed, but I think the state of his game prior just comes down to laziness, which is maddening.
This is such good analysis of his game and I agree he is playing better then what as a casual observer would recognize. I would just like to know if the white board is a coaches most coveted asset?
Alright coach. I’ve simmered on this for a few hours and used it to try to view tonight’s game from a different perspective, but now I have this question for you and I’d genuinely love to hear your thoughts on it as a former player and as a coach. One of the things you talk about here is EKs ability to read (VISION). You also commented on how EK can make the big plays, the big passes and that because he has that ability, he takes risks that can create turnover or can create high danger chances. Which was the point of my reframe. But now I want to flip it back to you. As a NHL veteran, Norris trophy winner and a man with great talent and vision. And as someone who has been positioned as a leader for the team, at what point does he need to be held accountable for trying to make big plays when the other players on the ice do not have the talent, experience or vision to be part of the play? It doesn’t matter if a QB can throw a 80 yard Hail Mary if none of his receivers have the speed to get there to catch it. If Skenes was playing catch with a 6yo t ball team and the goal was for each child to catch a ball thrown to them, he’s not going to be throwing fast balls. It would be counterproductive to the end goal. So why isn’t he held accountable, either by teammates or coaches, for trying to create plays that the rest of the skaters on the ice aren’t able to foreshadow is about to happen or be successful in their role on that play?
My best game for him was the Washington game. Although he played that Sandin goal way too passively, he had a nice goal and had a beautiful saucer pass assist. The fact is when he’s not contributing offensively, most of the time he’s a liability
Flipping the script I’d opine that the OT play of Karlsson to Malkin is foolish and dangerous because he’s passing it through three Redwings and he was the last man back, if its picked off its a 3-1. Meanwhile Sid was wide open on the wing heading to the net. Result = Sid gets the shot with Malkin's big body in front.
Now we as fan will bet how much they will lose over winning games. I say we lose by 2, with the Penguins scoring 2 and the Sharks 4. We can't defend, the blue line is messy, and the offense can't score beyond the big three. The goalie situation is disappointing. When will significant changes come so we can have hope for the future? It's time to overhaul this team and fire everyone. We are returning to the late '90s and early 2000s when the Pittsburgh Penguins were the laughingstock of the NHL. I was at Blue Jackets game last night they are playing with no motivation, they are late to spots on the ice where they should. It just team who is basically check out. They are officially done and not sure what Dubas is going to do. They are defeated team that has no passion or energy to compete based off the in person visit in Columbus.

Hey the late 90s were pretty good. I fell in love with hockey through those teams.
