Definitely its a car that was built to fulfill common man's quest for affordable first car. No denying fact. As an automotive enthusiast & engineer I believe Sir Ratan Tata had this vision right. I have few points to support his vision. I researched about it years back. Technically this is two cylinder petrol engine which obviously throws up noise due to un-balancing nature. I'm not a mechanical engineer. Mechanical engineers please do correct me if I'm wrong. No more two cylinder engine is manufactured around the globe for cars. Tata had done this in past to reduce cost of the vehicle. During the development phase - identifying its noise and vibrations they have tried their best to solve with a balance shaft. So it is not bad completely. In my perspective the idea is good..Tata have failed in marketing. They speculated in wrong way - 1 lakh car "cheap" car!!!! Not only in India it was speculated world wide. But Mr. Carlos ghon Chairman Renault - Nissan he himself addressed in an interview that its "a brave move by Tata motors. On road 2.99 lakhs it has its own potential value for money. So haters please don't thrash a product without knowing the value of time to make our money worth. Yes manufacturers do give us poor performing models. But tata has significantly improved its start of the art after 2009 which all motor enthusiasts knew ( after acquiring JLR). It should have been marketed and consumer should have conceived it as safe replacement for motorbike and scooter with twice the amount. Tata nano should have never segmented with cars. It should have created a new segment in entire commute system. For more insight to nano project please check #tatanano documentry. For ppl who asks will you buy one ?? Me being a true automotive enthusiast will definitely buy one and nurse to its extinction.
Note to Tata motors : We consumers are ready to support you ppl buying your products. On the flip side please do listen to consumers and their problems. I don't know do you guys have social media reporting team. Tata motors dealership after sale Service are bad. This is not a single opinion. Check all your products youtube video and read the comments. I believe quality of your products increased but not your dealership. Take a look at this #tatamotors

keerthi rajhan you are correct. Rattan TATA himself agreed that marketing it as a cheap car was the first prime reason for its failure. And yes it should have been slotted between a auto rickshaw and a very small hatchback car to create a new segment for itself, other competitors would have followed TATA. But TATA were never getting the design correct from the very beginning, they had to bring in the TATA Ace design leadership team to build this car. Nano is being currently build as a EV and this time TATA should get it right. We all know TATA Is the first in introducing large hatchback indica in diesel motor in India and then the sub 4 meter sedan..

Prabhu PJ thanks for sharing few more bits about tata motors EV project. Currently i'm researching about it. Well we all know tata motors are pioneers in Indian automobile manufacturers. When Americans and Australians had big bulky suv tata came up with India's first home grown tata Sierra. At present and in future electric vehicles are inevitable. Our central and state governments doesn't seems to be aware of the world electric car market and their pitfalls. Company like tata have shown us electric concepts in India Autoexpo and geneva motor show. The problem is not the vehicle alone. It is couple of facts put together. Say for example :- charging station , range, affordability, most important thing is range anxiety and not being crying loud like other turbo charged IC engines. I hope Jeyam automotive from coimbatore is working in conjunction with Tata motors could have thought about it and hope to have better plans this time.

I'm also using Nano LX 2011 model, its really best car for City traffic rides with very good Mileage 23 kmpl. Spacy legroom and easy ingress / outgress, tall interior space, feel good car with low price. Its not a luxury car but it fulfills basic car needs. Low budget option car for a small family. Hats off Ratan Tata Sir ! 👌 We are really enjoying Tata Nano.
