I would visit SNK in Torrance, CA once a month, hang out with Chad "The Gamelord" okata, look around in their warehouse, most of the space was for the MVS, Carlos would be in the back repair console and listing to 80s Thrash metal, once saw a VHS tape of a 4 player Multi-Link version of World Heroes, a custom cart of Last Resort with no slow down, Chad had a 32" Sony PVM in his office with RGB cable connection and custom sticks, front desk had a MVS mini and framed SNK posters on the wall, got a SNK Christmas Card with Samurai Showdown characters trimming the tree, good times

Got to know Chad "The Gamelord" Okata petty well, he came over my house, we played Fatal Fury Special in my living room, we also went down to arcades that SNK was test marketing new games, just stand back and what peoples reaction for research, Stanton Arcade in Stanton, CA and Aladdin's Arcade in Del Amo Mall, Del Amo, CA, we both watched a kid use Cheng Sinzan on FFS, beat everyone, unreal!

My only experience with the Neo Geo is through the arcade cabinets. Even then, I only played one game: Samurai Shodown. Where I lived as a kid, you were either a Sega kid or a Nintendo kid. Nobody I knew was rich enough to afford a Neo Geo. But I have always wanted to play Metal Slug.

My favorite game on Neo Geo was Magician Lord. I used to live in Coney Island. Faber's arcade used to have a Neo Geo cabinet (If you remember you were able to continue the game on the cabinet using a storage card). The sound on the system was the best on all the game consoles at the time. I used to _love_ the music.

Great video i was a kid bk in the day so i never got to have a neo growing up. Despite of that songs were sung of how great a console it was and when i played metal slug 1 on an MVS...man i learned why! Years passed i got my hands on MAME and later on a Neo geo x gold (not the same as the original) but for those of us with not thousands of dough in our pockets it seemed a good deal. I would ve loved it more if it had done better as a project..it didn't. Anyway i wish i could play some matches of windjammer with you or Samurai showdown 2 its different when you play with someone that appreciates and knows what hes playing!

Living in Mexico, some of these games weren't known here as much (except Metal Slug 3, one of the most popular titles for the NG in the arcades). Neo Geo was synonymous of fighting games (specially KOF lol) here.

  • @beebot
    @beebot 3 ปีที่แล้ว

A nice list. Shock Troopers is a great time, and with multiple routes, it's even better (but I also can't deal with the graphics on the sequel). Although I love MS3, I think (due to the epic length of those final stages) I would personally put X as my favourite MS game (or maybe even the first one). Right now I'm trying to get 1CC's on Last Resort and MSX.
My favourites on the MVS would go something like:
Last Resort, Metal Slug (X>3>1>2), Last Blade, Garou MotW, KOF '98, Turf Masters, Twinkle Star Sprites, SS4, Windjammers, Magical Drop III (easier to pick 10 than 5).

Pretty great list, I wouldn't have gone with Blazing Star but I have to agree with the other four in terms of time spent. Always thought those early SamSho games were the WOW!!!! fighting games from NeoGeo. Not that KoF isn't great, but at the time Samurai Showdown was a game that could make me forget about Street Fighter II series for a while.

Strangely the corner store where I lived in Montreal had a 2 cart MVS in a corner that had King of Monsters and WakuWaku 7, very weird selection and I never saw the owner change them, at least not while I was living there. So both those became favorites of mine and my friends, maybe more so because of nostalgia than for how good they were. Although I do own both carts today and still play them.

  • @theconsolekiller7113

Great video. My favorite game on the Neo Geo would probably be Super Dodge Ball. The way the game incorporates fighting game specials with dodge ball combat was extremely addictive to me. Definately my favorite versus game on the system. Windjammers is great too but Super Dodge Ball feels like it has alot more depth and things going on with multiple players to take out.
The first Shocktroopers and first 3 Metal Slug games are probably the best action games on the system for me as well. Blazing Star was great. The great thing about Neo Geo is that most of the games are super high quality since they were mostly arcade games. There are some I dont like but for the most part the games were atleast very well made technically.

Samurai Shodown 2 is brilliant, but so is the Neo Geo. I bought the AES cart when it came out, which I still have, yet the blood code eluded me so I got the bios chip. The MVS entered my collection when I bought a one-slot and hooked it up to my supergun. Games were cheap so I went that route until I picked up a consolized MVS about four years ago.

Never had a Neo Geo and I was planning on getting one at some point, then I got into my senses when I saw the prices of the consoles and especially those of the games.
So whenever I played Neo Geo games, these were ports on other consoles or I played them via emulation.
Favorite games: anything from.KoF series beyond KoF 94 and 95, Mark of the Wolves, all Metal Slugs but primarily the first one because I have fond memories with it, Samurai Shodown and very recently I discovered Kizuna Encounters which was pretty much love at first sight 🙂. I can't say there are bad games on the Neo Geo, so pretty much whatever you would choose, it wouldn't be wrong.

Have decided to reduce my console & game collection. Now just have a Switch, Dreamcast, NEO GEO AES and have started collecting for my Neo Geo AES and MVS , MVS mainly due to prices! I have many NEO GEO games on my Switch which are great, but there is nothing cooler than having a physical copy of a NEO GEO game in your collection! recently picked up Last Blade (MVS) Metal Slug (MVS), and Shock Troopers (MVS) good times!

Way back in the 90s. I was at the mall where i found a Neo Geo and game's clearance for 59$ machine,20$ a game. I bought them instead of a 3do. The funny thing? The 3do and PlayStation was the reason why they were clearing out the Neo geo. Best score of my life. Sega sending me a Dreamcast and all its game's was the second.

Love it when you review the less common systems.

Neo Geo was everything right about arcade gaming in the 90s. Here is some basic info here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neo_Geo_(system)

All of those games look awesome and right up my alley. Unfortunately I had a bad combination of being broke and not having any friends with one at the time.

the best thing about samurai shodown 2 is that sometimes you can get a 2 second kill. no other fighting game has ever done that. the best fighting game on neo geo and my all time favorite fighter.

For some reason I always go back to Art Of Fighting 3, I think it's the best fighter for the casual. I also like to go do a full round of Magical Drop 3 up to the final boss. That game is super addicting, fast and awesome music.
