When anyone talks about awful GBA games, they have to talk about the Sonic 1 GBA port. OMG, it's so awful that it makes Mortal Kombat 1 for the Game Boy feel like MK 11. I rather play SONIC BOOM than play the GBA port of Sonic 1 (yes, I said that).
Which are on other platforms no wonder why 3do died. On a side note only one 3do game as anti piracy measures and its fittingly about pirates. Framerater did a video on it and I think he came across an actual anti piracy screen with the 3do game in question. As far as I am aware that is the only game you need to Crack on 3do. 3do has no cd copy protection besides that meaning all games can be copied to a cd. I think Hancock should try to not buy 3do games if he does the 3do since they are very expensive now.

Yes, GBA was the greatest Gameboy IMO. And one of the greatest portables ever, right? Miss playing Fire Emblem and FFT at work on my GB Micro. The console was so small passers by thought I was twiddling my thumbs. 😅
The GBA SP was the best portable made, IMO. Also, the GBA is 32-bit, but it seems they most game developers didn’t take advantage of that because many of the GBA titles don’t even look as good as the 16-but SNES versions.

The console version of the Defender remake was actually really cool and good. Played it on the OG Xbox, but yeah the GBA version sucked and was totally different.

The Sonic 1 GBA port is an insult to the Genesis original. It doesn't sound right at all. And it looks too slow. I'll stick to my original cartridge and Genesis/32X combo.

The DRIVER 2 port was horrendous. Even worst than this whole top of worse GBA ever. Haaas, thats for sure; the GBA got it's howls and it's skeletons at the closet that nobody wanted on to be get discovered.
The Driver 2 port was pretty good. Sure, it looks ugly, but they did what they could with the GBA. It plays pretty well. It's pretty amazing what they accomplished.

Yep it was a lot of shovelware on the GBA as many companies thought it was parents buying them for their kids, and they will by anything we slap a license they like on!!!

OMG What did they do to Defender?! Yikes! How can you mess up something so simple?! I can understand the visual "upgrades" but they really blew it with the controls. The 1995 Original Gameboy combo release of Defender and Joust was amazing!! It played and sounded just like the arcade! All they added was - an inverted color mode which made it easier to see on the GB screen - some great background music (which you could turn off) - updated graphics mode for Joust (which scales in the playing field (nice addition) - and game over artwork for both games. They left the gameplay alone and just added a few optional things.

Ahh that zoomed in view on Sonic. That would bother me the most. I know I liked most of the GG Sonic games, and they were kind of zoomed in, but those were designed to be like that from the start.
Mortal Kombat Advance was one of the worst ports of Ultimate MK3 ever. The brightness and colors. The control was god awful having to duck and push back and kick in order to sweep. Dragonball Z Taiketsu was also pretty bad. The combat was basic and there were only like two moves per character. You could not actually fly in the game, and there is no way you could figure out how to fight in the air without looking it up. The graphics were pretty good despite having the digitized look. Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Guilty Gear X on GBA are the best choices for fighting games.
Yep, I bought MOH Underground as a kid thinking "An FPS on the gameboy advance?? Awesome!!" And after the first level, I'm pretty sure I just took it out and popped in Super Mario World. Never had the patience to continue
There was a Rock Em Sock Em Robots game on PS1 that ran on the same engine as Wu Tang Shaolin Style, X-Men Mutant Academy 1 & 2, and the unreleased Thrill Kill. Paradox Development later made Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks and the Backyard Wrestling games.
There was this Monsters Inc. tie-in game on GBA that was harder than a diamond. Not per se a bad game, but GOOD GOD my neck is getting tense just typing about it!
Oh boy, do I have a special hatred for Sonic Genesis on GBA! It was my first ever experience with a bad port, and all these years later I've still yet to play anything that tops it in terms of butchering a classic!

If you haven't tried them yet play Ecks Vs Sever & Ballastic: Ecks Vs Sever on the GBA. Those were developed by Crawfish Interactive (Street Fighter Alpha GBC, Street Fighter Alpha 3 GBA) and were legit VERY good FPS's on the system. SUPER overlooked.
The other Medal of Honor (Infiltrator) is a fantastic game. But for more FPS that are obscure, try Ice Nine, Ecs Vs Saver (Not Ballistics) and 007 Nightfire.
I love the GBA, I looked through the entire gba game library and chose what I liked but I also saw some really bad games which I didn't care for so most of the bad games I know are games that I saw and thought they were going to be good and ended up beign bad, like the Disney's Atlantis game, I LOVE that movie, easily one of my favorite disney movies but every level felt the same, you can easily get lost on levels, also, some levels are long and dying makes you go back to the start of the level, thats not even mentioning that some levels are on a timer, it was just boring and I'm not that hard to impress.
It's insane to think Medal of Honor would actually be released when it looks like that. It's positively head ache inducing. I'm also shocked to hear Sega did such a rush job on the Sonic port. The GBA certainty had enough power to run it so that's pretty unexcusable.
I remember playing Mutant League Hockey on the Genesis back in the day, and I used to always think of Rock Em Sock Em Robots whenever a fight would break out. Just seeing that awful looking GBA game made me think of, and want to play Mutant League Hockey. Could use some Spew Puke and Bones Jackson right about now. Also, seeing that bad Sonic port makes me think of those old "Genesis Does" promos that Sega used to do. I guess in the case of that GBA Sonic port, Genesis was still doing what Nintendont lol.
Heh, I just would have picked a bunch of DSI and Midway games. Midway Arcade Classics and Mortal Kombat Advance are just the pits on Game Boy Advance. The GBA port of Comix Zone and the re-imagining of Revenge of Shinobi wasn't much better. We can't forget Mucha Lucha, which wasn't a great cartoon and is somehow an even worse beat 'em up. As for DSI? Heh, take your pick. There's a silver lining to Genesis Sonic, though! Some hobbyist programmers ported the first level of the original Sonic for the Game Boy Advance themselves and it runs very well; nearly on the level of the original Genesis game. I think one of these guys went on to greater fame with Sonic Mania.
outa do bad DS games, and there is Data Design Interactive on DS too Technically they're on ps2 as well but rare in the usa., But that's probably the best version (maybe the pc is better)
I remember my brother buying that Medal Of Honour game, i expect a certain amount of forgiveness with a handheld title but christ that was shockingly bad/borderline unplayable
Yeah, even before I picked up Sonic on the GBA, I knew good and well that it wouldn't be a 1:1 reproduction of the Genesis version, but I held out hope that it would still be decent. Man, what a slap in the face. The constant choppiness and slowdown were infuriating. Played that POS once and never touched it again. (Edit: And the sound is absolute GARBAGE.)
A lot of those overhead or 3/4 perspective platform/exploration games on the GBA were boring like that; even ones with strong franchise connections like Banjo-Kazooie and Spyro had really ho-hum installments on the Game Boy Advance using this type of game design. Basically run around bland environments with nothing noteworthy or remotely interesting to do or see.
007 Nightfire was another awful FPS on the GBA. The graphics were terrible but the main issue was that the stages have an arbitrary time limit that completely ruined it for me.
The GBA sucked, first the unlit screen was a punch in the face and then I was tricked into buying remakes of snes and other games that didn't really add anything and always gave me the feeling of "I already played enough of this"

3DO next. i know the 3DO Didn't have many good games but it had great ones like: Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo and Road Rash.

I remember having a gba Jurassic park game that was just insanely difficult and hard to get past the first level
I remember playing Mutant League Hockey on the Genesis back in the day, and I used to always think of Rock Em Sock Em Robots whenever a fight would break out. Just seeing that awful looking GBA game made me think of, and want to play Mutant League Hockey. Could use some Spew Puke and Bones Jackson right about now.
Also, seeing that bad Sonic port makes me think of those old "Genesis Does" promos that Sega used to do. I guess in the case of that GBA Sonic port, Genesis was still doing what Nintendont lol.
Heh, I just would have picked a bunch of DSI and Midway games. Midway Arcade Classics and Mortal Kombat Advance are just the pits on Game Boy Advance. The GBA port of Comix Zone and the re-imagining of Revenge of Shinobi wasn't much better. We can't forget Mucha Lucha, which wasn't a great cartoon and is somehow an even worse beat 'em up. As for DSI? Heh, take your pick.
There's a silver lining to Genesis Sonic, though! Some hobbyist programmers ported the first level of the original Sonic for the Game Boy Advance themselves and it runs very well; nearly on the level of the original Genesis game. I think one of these guys went on to greater fame with Sonic Mania.
Somehow your talking about the Rock 'em Sock 'em game has made me want to try it.
I had the GBA version of the original Sonic game. It sucked, compared to the Genesis version😩

outa do bad DS games, and there is Data Design Interactive on DS too Technically they're on ps2 as well but rare in the usa., But that's probably the best version (maybe the pc is better)
I remember my brother buying that Medal Of Honour game, i expect a certain amount of forgiveness with a handheld title but christ that was shockingly bad/borderline unplayable
Yeah, even before I picked up Sonic on the GBA, I knew good and well that it wouldn't be a 1:1 reproduction of the Genesis version, but I held out hope that it would still be decent. Man, what a slap in the face. The constant choppiness and slowdown were infuriating. Played that POS once and never touched it again. (Edit: And the sound is absolute GARBAGE.)
A lot of those overhead or 3/4 perspective platform/exploration games on the GBA were boring like that; even ones with strong franchise connections like Banjo-Kazooie and Spyro had really ho-hum installments on the Game Boy Advance using this type of game design. Basically run around bland environments with nothing noteworthy or remotely interesting to do or see.
That GBA port if DEFENDER was terrible. The PS2 port was a way different yet familiar funner experience.
007 Nightfire was another awful FPS on the GBA. The graphics were terrible but the main issue was that the stages have an arbitrary time limit that completely ruined it for me.

The GBA sucked, first the unlit screen was a punch in the face and then I was tricked into buying remakes of snes and other games that didn't really add anything and always gave me the feeling of "I already played enough of this"
