Very cool man! I'm a welder by trade. Done it all over the last 20 years man, everything from pipeline stuff to fabricating in a shop. Seeing this level of calculated work is awesome man. Everyone has their spot, and everyone hits their marks over and over. Its truly beautiful. Thanks for the behind the scenes.. This is where the love is.. you can tell yall really enjoy what you're doing. I find myself looking for "mistakes" in everything I do, and when i see your guys make the little "mistakes" in the minutiae and immediately correct themselves on the next pass, it really hits home. Its beautiful seeing people doing things they love. The passion cannot be found anywhere else, a man and HIS work...

Luke the guy who's next to you. Omg!!! He never stops moving, get trap, empty, fill bait, drop in hot box, grab next trap & keep repeating. Then hook & drop, hook & drop. He's the man!!!! (FYI: he needs a raise!!!!)

What is the hot box used for? I can see there is water or somthing in it

@georgehutton6232 the hot box is very hot water and kills anything like barnacles, etc. from sticking to the trap so it can keep being used. Sometimes those traps can sit for a few days and collect all kinds of things from the bottom that can cause trap damage.

Does the bate need to go through the hot water?
Cause I would have the third guy do that. He stands around too much.

Only thing he could to do better with the trap is hold onto the rebar and half way up the crab trap on the corner. It won’t damage the welds on the trap and will make the trap last longer.

This is the only thing from MD I miss after moving to Florida. My steamed crab fix! Yeah, they do have Blue crabs down here but they don't know how to steam them. They BOIL everything! Plus they use them for BAIT! These people are savages. Savages I say.

Love it all. Sandy Point Light and the Bay Bridge. I grew up there in the 1970s. My best friend from high school lived just south of the Bridge and he spent some time as a waterman. My father-in-law was a lobsterman from Massachusetts and I spent a bunch of time as his sternman. You and your crew have it down pretty smooth.

Thats a well oil machine alright. Reminds me of my time on the west coast trollers. Setting out 6 mainlines, 60 to a hundred hooks per main. Pulling 2 mains at a time. One on slow retrieve, one on fast retrieve. Just as you got the first one hauled the second mains hooks would be coming up. Set the first main to slow return so you are Setting one while checking the second. As the first one hits the stoppers you start to retrieve the third at slow and set the second main back out. As it hits the stopper you start to retrieve the 4th main and then finish checking the third. And so on. Constant repeat from 4:30 am till 8:00 of 9:00 pm. Theres no way i could keep up now. Still loved it and should have kept with it. Things were good back then.

I see the first generation rail crabbing robot has very little glitches , invest in that guy, Captain robot will shine , together you will grow a larger business . A very successful business identifies the men and women that have the owners mentality, the ones that always have the companies best interest in mine , the ones that will grind it out . Promotes them into higher level jobs , building more success, more responsibilities. The company needs to be looking out to the future for more revenue and ways to grow. Training another person to fill his shoes is part of the process. Keep him oiled up and happy. I'm sure you don't have a line of people fighting for that job day in and day out, they all want to be door greeters at the dollar store.

Curious, you bait the pot before dunking them in the hot water that you use to "clean" the pots of algee and what not... does that not affect the "freshness" of the bait making it not as "areomatic" so to speak for the crabs? Have you any anecdota stories of before the practice was perormed or a/b testing?

    • @qtrfoil

No. This is the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in this video. It crosses the Bay near Annapolis, MD and is about 25 miles south of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which crossed the Patapsco River near Baltimore. Luke is fishing near Sandy Point, on the western side of the Bay. That's the Sandy Point Shoal Lighthouse you can see sticking up at the beginning of the vid, and the water's sometimes only about 5' deep there. It's hard to tell with the wide angle lens where she is, but the Southern Girl being a little smaller than some other boats means she can get into shallower ("skinnier") water and fish where some other boats can't get to. Luke did an amazing video about what the loss of the Key Bridge meant to him th-cam.com/video/FTocVCDbAqI/w-d-xo.html
