- Nike responds to an incident at a California store, where an African-American couple says they were racially profiled when a white store manager accused them of stealing a $12 basketball they had just purchased.
He’s intimidating her???
She called people with guns.

If a cop makes a mistake I will sue the shit out of the Department and them if possible. If they put me in jail for something and made a mistake thats a payday for me. I have been stopped by cops plenty of times, especially for a car I used to drive, even when following all traffic laws, I used to have a fast and furious inspired Honda civic and I’m from the hood, and I’m brown.
Correction: I did have a gun drawn on me when I was around 9 or 10, I did have a knife on me and cops showed up at my house, I followed commands and put the knife down.

@@matthewwoodmansee that’s exactly it my friend. First they needed to gather evidence in order to make a case. In this case, no pun intended, the police only went by what a “witness” said. Once the guy told them he bought the ball they should have left him alone gone back to check the tapes if he actually stole it.
Instead of the cops saying “you’re intimidating her”
They could’ve said
“Please try to speak calmly, we understand your frustration and apologize, how can we help make this right”

I watched a video of a white guy get tackled in a Walmart and arrested by 4 cops in-front of his infant son for literally no reason (they thought he was a guy someone said was driving drunk). They put him in a cop car, threaten to have his child taken and him go to jail. Not one time did he call them names, disrespect them or even raise his voice. He calmly told them they were wrong like a civilized human being. When they realized they were, the let him go and apologized. He made sure to get all their badge numbers and quietly left. He didn’t yell and scream how he was going to sue them. He just did it. That’s how non-ignorant, respectable people act when something like this happens to them.

The whole point is that there is no reason for store personnel to behave in that kind of aggressive and malicious way to ANYONE! Especially in front of a child. And it's true that some security guards DO have a strong tendency to single out minorities for this kind of attack. All ordinary people deserve to be able to buy food and necessities with their own damned money!

I am a former State LEO, and worked Security for many years in retail and have Loss Prevention friends. You NEVER state that a person stole unless you’re 100% sure with clear view that it was that person and that the person actually stole, and with intentions of stealing. Also, you are NEVER REQUIRED to show a Receipt unless it’s like a Membership Store. It’s in the contract.
Wrong. You need a receipt as your proof you purchased an item. I worked in security and loss prevention. What is so bad asking someone for the receipt? Try leaving Walmart without showing your receipt. I have never been offended or felt disrespected because I was asked for my receipt. 🙄

When I worked at walmart for a short time (horrible experience, as anyone would expect,) one rule in the training website was literally don’t confront thieves. Tell a superior. And even then pretty sure a superior wouldn’t really chase them out the store.. like.

I love that they were able to say what they had to say but in a situation like this where you know you’re not at fault and you have proof, save your words and just present the proof. It was possible that they stole the ball but it was also possible that they paid for it.
So why would he berate for wasting his time. If an officer tells a citizen that they are a timewaster for misunderstanding a situation they risk that citizen not reporting a real crime next time because they might be worried that maybe they misunderstood again.

The fact that the woman even called the cops for a ball that probably wasn’t even worth more than $20 is absurd. There’s people dying, a $20 ball being stolen isn’t a travesty. The worst thing is that they DID pay for it and this is all for nothing.

I'm a white guy. I was in a hurry and briskly walked out of Target two weeks ago and I guess I looked suspicious. Loss prevention and another employee stepped in front of me and asked to see my receipt. I showed it to them. They apologized for the delay and said someone that looked like me was on camera stealing things in the past. I accepted their apology and went about my day.
Just show the receipt.... Nobody gets fired, everybody is happy...

I dont feel for him one bit. They could have avoided the situation all together by showing her the receipt. If I asked someone for a recipet and they refused I would think it was more suspicious. It happened to me to at Walmart fall apart That's what I call that place I put two childrens bicycles in layaway for my grandchildrens Christmas gifts and when I went to pick them up I had them and a fist full of paperwork I had to show I paid for them I showed the paperwork at the sporting goods desk and they handed it back to me When I went to their side door (it was right by the sporting goods checkout) I couldn't open the door because they had locked it on me I asked them to open the door and they just looked at me and stared I asked them what their problem was and someone finally spoke up and said We think you are trying to steal these bicycles WTF ! I had all the paperwork and showed it to them and they still tried to detain me ! I threw a forking fit ! I said call the cops or let me out this damn door ! You are being stupid and wasting my time and I'm going to laugh like hell when the cops show up and make you look as stupid as you are They didn't call the cops They opened that door What a bunch of losers at that checkout stand !
I had an African American concierge, he didn’t allow me to enter my own building without verifying I had the keys, whereas he allowed all white people to enter without one. Racial profiling exists everywhere, it hurts.
