Ryan Coogler is a multimillionaire, what he should've done straight afterwards was to inform the bank he was closing his account with them and moving his money elsewhere.
@Derek Craig you ever worked at a bank before? Things like this happens all the time. @@stevenstevenson3705 With large sums of money you can do that, but what he did was ask the teller if that was ok to do, they might of assumed something because they saw the amount in the bank account... A problem most people don’t understand is that when someone doesn’t act as calm and collected as Ryan then they are viewed as aggressive and in the wrong. But it is very hard to act civil when you are blatantly being unfairly treated.

When the director explained what he did - he wrote the amount, gave his own card, put in his pin, gave his ID - but the teller still decided to call the cops on him. The teller should definitely be fired for profiling. What else could a person provide so he/she would not be suspected? Passing a note, almost completely covered, is a huge red flag. The teller shouldn't be fired. The dumb customer who is drawing a large cash amount should have been called the branch or spoke to a manager. He is mostly to blame.
You’re right! He should have said, “it’s in my pocket, officer. Do you want me to reach into my pocket to get it?” You have to know how to speak to police officers when being stopped and when being detained. Obviously, many people do not. I will give him an “A” for remaining calm, though.

That makes absolutely 0 sense. As someone who dealt with large sums of cash at one point in my life, HAD ANYONE, white, black, Hispanic, From Mars, I don't care, slipped me a note asking for cash I would have been concerned and the fact the sees NOTHING WRONG with slipping a note to a bank teller that's asking for a large sum of cash absolutely blows my mind.

He sounded reasonable and cooperative. Also he put his bank card into the reader for the teller, entered his pin# and showed i.d. So this is the bank's mistake. If a person asks to withdraw money from their account and the money is there in the account then......

When a bank teller counts my $100, I’m already nervous. Can’t imagine $12,000 being counted in front of everyone. The bank owes him more than an apology. If you listen to the 911 call, the teller said she didn’t even check his ID to see if it matches the person.
I've literally worked at bank of America for more than 5yrs. This was definitely profiling. Their policies doesn't warrent calling officers unless a crime is being committed. Not to mention this was definitely O.K.'d by the management there because the manager would have to be filled in immediately and Bank of America's corporate security called after the police were called. So the manager had every chance to get the details and descalate the situation Before & After the officers arrived. The policies due state if you are suspicious of a transaction you have all right to call the fraud team and have them review the account but never. So this was wrong in so many level on the banks side. Teller definitely should be fired and law suit against BOA

Once they realized who he was they were busy trying to explain/justify why they pulled guns on him. Also Ryan is a very humble, low-key person. Obviously he didn't want this info to go public or he would have made it known back in January when it happened. Now he has to relive it all over again. He wrote Fruitvale Station because he was deeply affected by the Oscar Grant killing so to have this interaction with the police happen, must have been even more traumatic for him.
They were justified to pull guns you don’t go to a possible bank robbery or robbery period unarmed, they don’t know if the person has a gun or not they have to react with the little information they are given
I actually have no issue with detaining at gunpoint for a call in of a bank robbery. That seems reasonable to me to assume a bank robber may be armed and once safely detained the details can be sorted without risk. This is why responding to direct orders in this situation is good, Ryan listened and let them detain him calmly and THEN worked on what was going on. I think the only failure here is the cops should have removed his cuffs FAR faster it was very clear this was a misunderstanding early on into this detainment and the BANK is a major WTF failure. I’m sure he never said I’m trying to rob the bank, give me all the funds? Ppl watch too many movies and let their imaginations take them away too far instead of dealing with what’s being proposed in front of them. It’s common sense. The guy entered his bank info. What else was he supposed to do? I agree the problem is with the teller. And though the cops were very respectful of him, they are still cops that he doesn’t know who have guns. And with everything that has happened to many innocent black men making so called suspicious movements and getting killed for it, he’s is rightfully anxious. I work alongside cops everyday, I see the way they handle ppl under arrest. It can be very intimidating. And he’s just one person. I saw at least 4 cops in that clip. It takes just one of them being a jackass claiming he sees something that is black and looks like a gun, for them all to react too quickly and hurt someone. And this poor guy is just trying to hold it together after being surrounded by authorities. That’s what I see.
I do. that's why you remain calm cause they don't have shit on you.
@@gilbertoarellano8711 Yea, but did you see the video with the guy from the military who was sprayed in the face with mace. The guy was calm. He was only asking what he did wrong. And all these ppl have one thing in common, the color of their skin, because apparently being black in America is seen as a threat. Even little black children are a threat. Sad 😞 But on the flip side, I see plenty videos of white ppl stealing cop cars, beating cops and even drawing guns on them, but they definitely lived to see another day, while unarmed black ppl get hurt in situations like these where they have done nothing wrong. Cops do the explaining thing because they don't believe they did anything wrong in the slightest, nor do they care about the people they effect. Note how once they KNEW he wasn't wrong, they still had him in handcuffs trying to explain things to him, and it was Ryan Coogler who had to initiate the topic of them taking the handcuffs off of him. This wasn't a misstep on the officers part, it was purposeful. They would've kept him in handcuffs as long as possible. White supremacist police are scum, which means ALL cops are scum.

You know the system is fucked up when I get anxiety every time an officer says "calm down".
They were called to a bank robbery in progress, they were about as gentle as you will ever see in that situation. They absolutely were, usually with that kind of call, its alot of screaming and orders and guns drawn and a knee in the suspects back and we apologize later if we have to, it's about safety for everyone including the suspect. I hear quite often, people telling me how LEOs give them anxiety and 90% of the time its because they have been arrested before. I get it, I do but the best way to not have stressful contact with law enforcement is to not break the law. In this case they employee who called this in needed to be fired. That seems reasonable to me to assume a bank robber may be armed and once safely detained the details can be sorted without risk. This is why responding to direct orders in this situation is good, Ryan listened and let them detain him calmly and THEN worked on what was going on.
