I love that the designers and engineers are recognizing what you are doing to preserve and pass along the knowledge that went into these cars. Great to see the old guys getting involved. Sincerely warms my heart.
Greetings from UK 🇬🇧 I've been silently enjoying what you and the lads are accomplishing at Genius Garage for a while now but I would really like to express my appreciation for what you do. You're not only providing a unique and worthwhile opportunity to learn engineering skills but it's obvious you are instilling a sense of pride and purpose in your students and making the whole process fun. That's quite an achievement, not something everyone can do but it's very enjoyable to watch. I also really appreciate your tips on better shifting. I've driven manual (stick shift) for over 30 years but learned more about how transmissions work and better shifting from you recently than at any point since I was a teenager learning to drive. Youre a good guy Casey, keep doing what you do and I shall continue enjoying it 👍🏻
Mexican beer livery sounds like a terrific idea. If I may make a recommendation: Corona And I can hear the rich old farts at the track now- "I would have gotten away with it if it hadn't been for those meddling kids!"
no sombreros, no corona beer, put a Quetzalcoat livery, the Feathered Serpent, the wisest of men', the aztec god wing, one thof the representation is like and aztec dragon, is cool. ps also de 240sx got a variant of that engine
I would love to be at Mid-Ohio to watch the car put through it’s paces. Good content, good work and good luck. I’m glad our friends in Lakeville, IN are hooking you up with racing tires.
Freddy was the guy with the idea and the money. A a gringo, an Italian, an Englishman, and 2 Argentinians did all the design work for him. Scores of Mexicans were involved including a brilliant engineer who cast all the aluminum parts for the car who went to engineering school in the US. The Englishman who did the carbon fiber chassis and bodies had to make 2 and 3 sets of molds for all the different parts before he could even start to produce 22 sets of tubs and bodywork. It was a massive project.
That KA24E was used for 1989-1990 240SX's as well, I have one in my '89! crazy to see this in a full blown racecar, especially still NA. Stock they only make around 140hp. 250hp is insane for one of these without any forced induction.
The fact that it is an Iron block and not as wide as a DOHC KA make it ideal for a partially stressed member, and these blocks were readily available in mexico around the time these machines were being conceptualized! early 240sx's are cool and good on you for keeping the KA and not swapping it.
Love your videos, would be good to see you get a mic upgrade. Maybe just zip tie what you have to a wrench for a makeshift handheld mic like Gingium? Great content, keep it coming! very cool car and great story!
ka24 is something a friend of mine had in his 240SX. A durable engine, one that survived all the torture we threw at it while we expected it to blow and get replaced. That's a lot of tech and performance for what you said was cheap. With this weight it doesn't even need any more power, it feels insane as it is. Such a nice vehicle.
The TwinCam brothers! Best nickname ever. Keep up the good work guys. I'm amazed by Genius Garage, such opportunity and practice available to young guys to learn and acquire new skill . If only there were such thing in Europe...
Years ago was thinking to get one here in Mexico, but they are really rare to find, so I bought the formula one of the same years and sharing some racing dates (same 90's when Mexico create really nice race car serials), got me a Formula 2 Copa Marlboro Chrysler (a formula that was a copy of a formula rt4 atlantic with some upgrades), rally nice to see a prototype with you guys!
I wish I had your shop when I was young...I love to work on stuff..its an addiction...even if there was a shop /school like yours here just to stop and see the unique cars...oh man so jealous.
this car is awesome, wish i had something to work on like that when i was a student. I have been looking at buying an Ultima which has 500bhp and weighs 2161lb. I imagine this mexican racecar will perform just as quickly round a track as that Ultima.
When you drive it for the first time, could you do a "first drive" video? Since I have a car in pieces right now I'd love some pointers on taking an essentially rebuilt car out for the first time.
It seems like there should be more bracing to the monocoque to drive-train connections. Are there 4 more pickup points further outboard to the monocoque to reduce flex between the two halves?
The K24 was also found in the Nissan 240sx and largely ignored because of the JDM cult status of the sr20det but honestly the K24 is a stouter bottom end and responds very well to mods. 400 hp with a good turbo setup isn’t unheard of.
I've gotta ask, I've been staring at it for 10 minutes now and can't work it out, what's the linkage coming off the back of the cantilever for the rear suspension, it looks to me as if it would imobilize the movement of the suspension but that can't be right?
Wow thats cool. The only problem with the KA is its long stroke, and side loading the piston and wear from it. I'm a former 240SX owner (moved on to Z cars) and I've done research on ka's. The trucks that used to run the SOHC KA you have there I think went up to 13-14:1 and got some more power out of it. Im sure a more radical cam and all that, but they lived their lives in the 20-40 hour range if I remember right. But you guys have direct contact with the designer of the car, he'll know more about how long that setup will last. Other than that it'll be awesome! Oh and if it explodes, and takes out expensive bits, you can always put a VQ30DE in its place. Aluminum block, cheap and similar power stock....Not bolt in but nothing else is other than a dohc ka.
Back in its day, this car was raced by future CART stars Mario Dominguez, Michel Jourdain, Carlos Guerrero and even Juan Pablo Montoya. The original name of the championship was Copa Tecate.
Speaking of motorsport south of the boarder, I'd love to know more about Turismo Carretera in Argentina. It's really hard to find tech information on the engines, but they basically take classic American inline 6s and build them to insane levels with one off heads, screaming redlines etc. Essentially it's NASCAR if NASCAR used inline 6 engines built from production blocks rather than V8s. I just want a Argentinian DOHC head on my AMC!
Not really a fan of these quick music timelapses. I prefer the slower style, with maximum banter. Excited to see this and the other cars on track though!
hey casey if you need help with the translation for the manual let me know, the tecate livery looked good in this car, you should check that one out, just make sure you put a mexican stig nameplate somewhere
Kinda makes me wonder if the guy who designed this has any background in aviation, the way it's built, i mean. Totally Mexican Beer livery on this babe if he's ok with it. AND AND AND, put his name on the rear, the guy built what looks to be a great racer, he deserves the recognition outside of Mexico.
Keep it red, call it El Diablo Rojo. With that p/w ratio that thing is going to be an absolute devil on the track. I hope the students working on it get a chance to drive it so they fully understand and appreciate what that car is capable of.
The engine looks like a Nissan 2.4 Liter KA24E like out of a 1989-1990 240SX or Hard body Pickup if they got an extra 100Hp out of it NA that would be fairly impressive.
Best car content on TH-cam. Not about crazy HP or high price tags. Pure engineering and art!
Couldn’t agree more
Very well said!
Put them on a ladder and they could be dual overhead cam
"Twin Cam" I love it, they need to run with that!
Now they just need to get a twin cam motor to go with the theme
I love that the designers and engineers are recognizing what you are doing to preserve and pass along the knowledge that went into these cars. Great to see the old guys getting involved. Sincerely warms my heart.
How awesome to have the original designer contact you good luck gentleman Bravo
First W Motors and now this. Here's to hoping the momentum keeps going forward.

If the livery is going to be a Mexican beer, I may have an idea... you've just gotta, uh, Find Your Beach hahaha
Corona Racing
Dude Corona beer livery lol
@@1erickf50 Too sonn.
@@mexicanspec that was my joke, it's topical
Tecate' all Corona totally sucks.
Hardbody and early 240sx for that ka24e
Look for the Tecate livery in Indycar, it looks awesome
Wow nice video Casey! Cheers from Mexico🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽
Awesome 👍 glad to see my people's product is being appreciated
Mexican beer livery sounds like a terrific idea. If I may make a recommendation: Corona

Tecate...Already matches the (red) color of the car...js
Tecate I think would fit better given the car is already red and they had a relationship with indy a few years ago
or mogello
The best Mexican beer is Pacifico. The funniest livery, though, would for sure be Corona.
Modello especial gets my vote
Looks like a group c car
Edit did some quick research and this car raced in the 1993 mexican prototype championship
...there was a 1993 mexican prototype championship?
@@TheRCTAddict yes I know I didn't know before looking
Group C2 or GTP Camel Lights.
1994

Thanks for the update Ive been curious about this car we haven't seen it since you took it apart.
That thing is sick you guy's, can't wait to here that thing run ,way to go genius garage.
I would love to be at Mid-Ohio to watch the car put through it’s paces. Good content, good work and good luck. I’m glad our friends in Lakeville, IN are hooking you up with racing tires.
That car is going to be a ROCKET. It is just a tiny bit heavier than my Gold Wing, with 2 1/2 times the horsepower! Amazing....
I think you're underestimating the power of a rocket :-P

Nissan used KA24E was used in the '89-90 240SX, and Hardbody Pickups in the RWD configuration. KA24E: 2.4L SOHC engine (this engine)

Casey mentions painting in Mexican beer livery. I immediately think ... CORONA!! Naah, maybe not.
or the number inside the corona virus to be extra funny
That N/A engine is crazy for KA24 and these motors can do wonders when boosted too, surprisingly.
Man they get to have so much fun! What awesome cars to learn with.
Hardcastle and McCormick had a car in the show that looked just like this called the Cody coyote.

I’m from Argentina, Spanish is my mother tounge. Also I study car industry engeneering I just wished I lived there to take part of that project

35 +/- year old race car, full on buyer beware . But seller fibbing sux.
If it's news to you that Mexico has a history in motor sport you should try searching "1953 Carrera Panamericana" and see how long that race was!

Looks like it has active aero on the front end?
It reminds me of the car from hardcastle and McCormick
Is the engine a stressed part of the chassis or is there a frame around the engine
The engine is a stressed member of the chassis, as well as a frame that goes around the engine and connects to the transaxle as well.
If you get to test at Mid Ohio on the 16th announce it early and I will drive down to see it.
Dude the title had me dying 😂😂
I want one! How many were built?
Kewl, I'm curious about the monocoque to drive-train connections (male to female with bolt and nut(s), safety wired)? ;-)
