I just acquired a 2021 Honda CT125 Trail in a bike trade. Due to multiple surgeries I have found that my days of riding the Harley-Davidsons and Honda CB1100s are over. I can’t hold them up now. So I put them up for sale and both sold quickly but the big Honda was sold with me accepting to take the small Trail and cash. I figured I would sell, themTrail but guess what….I think I may keep the thing. These are cool bikes I’ve learned. So far I’ve added auxiliary lighting, the center rack, the USB charger and a cigarette lighter receptacle for plugging in other accessories. I’m following your advice and turning it into a mini adv bike.Oh, and I raised the front fender too., having a ball getting it ready for my first trip in the thing.
Sorry to hear about your surgeries and forced retirement from riding bigger bikes. However, it's great that you've discovered the fun of the small-bore lifestyle! These mini-motos are great fun, and they offer back-to-basics riding without the dangerous speeds and weight of their larger brethren. They won't get anywhere fast, but they will go just about anywhere! It's all a matter of perspective and expectations. I'd rather take the slower back roads and soak up the scenery anyway! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
I am glad to see attitudes towards small displacement engines has changed. People used to not have a great attitude towards small displacement engines 35 years ago.
Well quasi I got me a new Honda Trail 125 today ❤😊 I just got home with it so I’ll put some miles on it and get it broke in some over the next few days and ordered me the center rack for it earlier this evening. We was doing paper work I forgot my drivers license and they forgot to give me the owners manual, but they will mail them to me in the morning lol
👏 Congrats on your new Trail 125! I hope you enjoy that little mule... it's great fun! I need to get mine out for another road trip sometime soon and do some proper adventure camping with it. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
@@QuasiMotard can’t wait I love all your videos, was telling my salesman of your channel and the adventures you guys have took on the trail 125 and the super cubs!!!
I love your videos and marvel at your ability to keep up a running verbal dialogue, very entertaining. I also marvel at the high speed reliability of these little Honda four strokes. After watching your videos I now have no fear of riding my little Japanese four strokes at high RPM'S for prolonged periods. They are really bullet proof. That first Grom with the high dual pipes looks really sweet, especially the seat. 👍👍 Anxiously awaiting that black VH pipe for my Navi. Guy said August, we’ll see.
I had a comment recently on one of my Baja videos where I was stuck on the side of a mountain with my R1200 and trailer "you should have ridden a smaller bike like a honda trail". I had to agree! Only thing is we still don’t have the Honda Trail in Canada yet and the only reason I bought the BMW was to develop the hitch kit because of all the BMW riders asking for it. The best part is I'm pretty sure you guys on the small bores have pulled them more miles than all the BMW guys combined! 😂
🤣 LOL! Ain't that the truth?! I've ridden large, small, and everything in between over the years. However, I've started to gravitate toward the small to mid displacement bikes almost exclusively over the past few years because they can go anywhere. Maybe they won't get there as fast or in as much comfort and glamor, but they'll go ANYWHERE! I took a 2000-mile trip on my little Yamaha XT250 a few years ago that had 350+ miles of off-road and single-track. I was in the Ozark mountains and passed scores of riders on BMW GSA's and UTV's that were stuck or just couldn't muster the hills and water crossings. The little XT tractored through all of it without a whimper. I was loaded down with big aluminum panniers, but I sure wish that I had the SherpaX back then! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
The number plate on that Motocompo at 28:35 is from Kobe! A city in Hyōgo Prefecture(prefecture is equivalent to States in America) located around South-West of Japan. If any of you ever eaten Kobe beef before, the cows originated from the farms around Hyōgo. Just some fun facts✌🏻 But actually the text on that plate is backwards for some reason😅. Kobe is drawn 神戸. 中(naka) means middle/inside.
Thanks for sharing your experience! I wish I could have gone and now I get to see what it was like. I picked up my CTX 700 D yesterday and it’s been amazing!
Congrats again on your CTX700D! Those are great cruisers. I missed a smoking deal on NOS (new old stock) units just before C19 hit a couple of years ago. My local dealer had a dozen or more of the CTX700, 700N, 700D, and 700ND that they picked up from one of Honda's warehouses. They were selling them BRAND NEW for $3699 to $4999. I nearly snagged a couple of them on an impulse... they were too cheap to pass up! Woulda, coulda, shoulda... D'OH! 🤦♂🤣👍 --QM

I haven't made a detailed video of my tool kit and full load-out for longer road trips. That's a good idea for a future video! Here is a brief (not comprehensive) list of the maintenance/emergency items that I take on all road trips (short or long): - flat kit (tire plugs, CO2 inflator w/ spare cartridges, manual pump, spare valve stem cores, valve core tool, etc) - tire pressure gauge - Leatherman or other multi-tool - metric hex keys (specific sizes needed for bike) - open-end metric wrenches (specific sizes needed for bike) - combination screwdriver - spare spark plug and dielectric grease - nitrile gloves and single-use handi-wipes - chain lube - spare chain master link - Gorilla tape (wrapped around wrench handles) - plastic zip ties (assorted lengths) - small roll of stainless-steel safety wire - minimal medical kit (bandages, gauze roll, cloth tape, antibiotic ointment, antihistimine, pain reliever, etc) If I'm riding one of my bikes that has spoked wheels & tubes, then I add: - tire irons - tube patch kit (and spare tube if space permits) - spoke wrench - trail stand for propping up the bike when the wheel is removed If I'm riding one of my scooters, then I add: - variator tool (need to hold variator still to remove center nut for belt maintenance) - socket and breaker bar to remove variator and clutch bolts - spare CVT belt - spare CVT rollers/sliders Longer road trips obviously require more logistics and materials if I intend to be self-sufficient on the road. Oil changes and other spares can become necessary depending on the length and location of the trip. Tires, drive chains (or CVT belt for scooters), replacement gaskets, and other items might not be available on the road (at least not in a short time period), so I pre-purchase those consumables and take them with me. Nothing sucks worse than being stranded on the side of the road when the motorcycle breaks down or has a flat tire that you can't fix. You generally can't (shouldn't) leave it unattended because it'll probably be gone when you come back for it. Most road service companies aren't equipped to handle motorcycles, so finding a good provider can be tricky or impossible. To mitigate those inevitable breakdowns, I make packing checklists for my bikes and my personal gear (e.g,. clothes, camping equipment, etc). If I follow my lists and update them to include/remove items as needed, then I'm usually self-sufficient and I don't end up stranded. However, I neglected to update my CT125's road kit with a SPARE TUBE! I ended up with an unpatchable flat tire on the return trip from Birmingham, so I had to call my son to rescue me with our pickup truck. That's the first time that I've had to quit a road trip in over 25 years! D'OH! 🤦♂️🤣👍 --QM
The telemetry is recorded by my GoPro camera and my Garmin Zumo GPS (when I'm riding with it). I use a third-party program called Telemetry Extractor ( goprotelemetryextractor.com/ ) to combine the GPS data and generate the gauge overlays. The telemetry is recorded on my GoPro Hero cameras and also on a Garmin Zumo GPS. I use a third-party program called Telemetry Extractor (goprotelemetryextractor.com/ ) to extract and combine the data for visualization. The gauges and layouts are completely customizable, and it allows you to combine multiple files and data sources. I generate a transparent MOV file with the gauge overlays and then stitch everything together with Adobe Premiere Pro. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
I see you enjoyed small bore, I was there and I passed you in the video. Small bore was fun but nothing like the Vintage Festival at Barber coming up in October.
Nice... which bike were you riding? The Barber festival was a lot of fun. I don't know if I'll be able to make it back up there in October, but the Vintage Festival sounds great. I'd love to ride my 1970 Honda CL175 Scrambler up there! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
No, this is a custom trailer from KipMoto: kipmoto.com/pages/sherpax The trailer is a universal application for off-road and adventure bikes, but the mounting hitch (hoop) is custom for each motorcycle application. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
That chopped Super Cub was a full custom job. They installed the 2022 Grom 125 engine into the Cub and converted it to a 5-speed Shifter Cub (notice the clutch on the left handlebar)! That would be a fun little bike, but I think the suspension might be chopped a little too short for comfort. 😉👍 --QM
That is the KipMoto SherpaX adventure trailer: kipmoto.com/pages/sherpax . KipMoto made a custom hitch for my Super Cub (also fit the CT125), so I'm not sure if that is a "production" item or not. We pulled these behind our Super Cubs for 10K miles around the USA for the 2021 Scooter Cannonball Run. During that trip, we had ZERO mechanical failures on the motorcycles or the trailers. These trailers are fantastic! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
Howdy, Joseph! The trailer behind my CT125 the KipMoto SherpaX trailer: kipmoto.com/pages/sherpax . You can find more details about in the previous video description here: th-cam.com/video/xItNMZ--qSc/w-d-xo.html . The trailer behind Neil's Yamaha SMAX is a custom-built unit made by the master fabricator himself... NEIL! That guy has amazing fabrication and welding skills. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
i'm still alittle mad. just guessing long after you came though my hometown. the VA called and canceled . now i wonder if i could have called you and maybe caught you. GRR oh well. things happen.
I am a Doordasher and I need this set up to survive…where do I find the trailer? I would like a custom so I can get 65-70 mph for short interstate drives.
That is the KipMoto SherpaX trailer: kipmoto.com/pages/sherpax . The trailer's empty weight (including the hitch) is only 35 pounds, so it hauls behind nearly any motorcycle like a dream! You'll probably need to make a bunch of mods to get any of the mini-moto's up to 70 MPH. This trailer was actually designed for larger adventure motorcycles, so there are plenty of fitments for full-sized bikes. I have hitches (hoops) to mount this trailer on my Yamaha XT250 and Honda CB500X as well. You barely notice the trailer's weight behind larger bikes. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
Ok.. I just gotta ask .. every state is different... In Ohio for example.. I don't need a title for a trailer,I just take it to a scale, weigh it,and the the state will give me a tag... Now, I've seen this trailer before on your bike, but, I see this more on bicycles than anything... How are you using this particular trailer legally? It's a bicycle trailer...
No, this is the KipMoto SherpaX trailer ( kipmoto.com/pages/sherpax ), and is made specifically for adventure motorcycles. The construction is much stronger than a typical bicycle trailer, and it has high-speed wheel bearings and a DOT-rated tire. Texas doesn't require a license plate or registration for the trailer because it's under the minimum weight. I hauled this trailer 10K miles around the USA during the 2021 Scooter Cannonball Run, and I never had a single problem... no mechanical issues, no legal issues. I had several state troopers and constables pull up and pace along side me on the road, so I was expecting some kind of admonishment. Nope! Every one of them waved or gave me a thumbs up. Of course, having proper lighting, safety tape, and the crazy-bright warning flasher on the back probably didn't hurt! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
28:39 that Japanese plate is fake and who ever did that can’t even read the Japanese character. Those two words “神戶“means “Kobe city”(yep ! Kobe Brain was named after that city name) and you can compare the differences between my reply here with in the video.😂
You can find all the details in the first video of this series: th-cam.com/video/xItNMZ--qSc/w-d-xo.html . This is the KipMoto SherpaX adevnture trailer: kipmoto.com/pages/sherpax . Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

D'OH! 🤦♂️🤣👍 --QM
how did you get all the speed and stuff on the recording ?
The telemetry is recorded by my GoPro camera and my Garmin Zumo GPS (when I'm riding with it). I use a third-party program called Telemetry Extractor ( goprotelemetryextractor.com/ ) to combine the GPS data and generate the gauge overlays. Everything is stitched together in Adobe Premiere Pro to create the final videos. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
What do you use to record the telemetry?
Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
Do Honda make trailers and tow bars for the honda trail bikes
No, this is a custom trailer from KipMoto: kipmoto.com/pages/sherpax
The trailer is a universal application for off-road and adventure bikes, but the mounting hitch (hoop) is custom for each motorcycle application. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
Is the Cub getting a new engine for 23 or was that a custom job only?
That chopped Super Cub was a full custom job. They installed the 2022 Grom 125 engine into the Cub and converted it to a 5-speed Shifter Cub (notice the clutch on the left handlebar)! That would be a fun little bike, but I think the suspension might be chopped a little too short for comfort. 😉👍 --QM
Just came across this video, Where do I get that trailer?
That is the KipMoto SherpaX adventure trailer: kipmoto.com/pages/sherpax . KipMoto made a custom hitch for my Super Cub (also fit the CT125), so I'm not sure if that is a "production" item or not. We pulled these behind our Super Cubs for 10K miles around the USA for the 2021 Scooter Cannonball Run. During that trip, we had ZERO mechanical failures on the motorcycles or the trailers. These trailers are fantastic! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
@@QuasiMotard thanks for the information!
Where do the trailers come from?
Howdy, Joseph! The trailer behind my CT125 the KipMoto SherpaX trailer: kipmoto.com/pages/sherpax . You can find more details about in the previous video description here: th-cam.com/video/xItNMZ--qSc/w-d-xo.html .
The trailer behind Neil's Yamaha SMAX is a custom-built unit made by the master fabricator himself... NEIL! That guy has amazing fabrication and welding skills. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
Thay also have a 125 Honda Forza
Did you make it to the Smoky Mountain Small Bore Rally also?
No, but I will try to do that next year! 😉👍 --QM
@@QuasiMotard Sorry. Yea just thought I saw your setup there.
i'm still alittle mad. just guessing long after you came though my hometown. the VA called and canceled . now i wonder if i could have called you and maybe caught you. GRR oh well. things happen.
On second thought maybe a 350cc adv.
Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
@@QuasiMotard ✝️hank Y🌅U ! I’ll look that up and I’ll have to figure out the right bike set up…I’ll keep you posted 🥳🌟🙏🏼
That’s a perfect trailer👍🏼
Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
@@QuasiMotard ahh.. right on... Going to check those out
did you wonder how you could take the honda cushion home lol
🤣 If I deflated it, then I probabaly could have stuffed into the trailer's box! 😉👍 --QM
A shame there isn't a 200cc version of that gutless wonder
The 2023 has a more powerful engine with higher compression
28:39 that Japanese plate is fake and who ever did that can’t even read the Japanese character.
Those two words “神戶“means “Kobe city”(yep ! Kobe Brain was named after that city name) and you can compare the differences between my reply here with in the video.😂
Where you staying at Oak Mountain Camprgrounds? Nice place. GREAT video!!
Yes, that's where we stayed for a couple of days! 😉👍 --QM
I'd like to know where you got that trailer I want to get one for my trail 125
You can find all the details in the first video of this series: th-cam.com/video/xItNMZ--qSc/w-d-xo.html . This is the KipMoto SherpaX adevnture trailer: kipmoto.com/pages/sherpax . Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
@@QuasiMotard thanks for the reply
What is Neal riding?
Neil is riding his 2016 Yamaha SMAX 155 in this video. He fabricates all of his touring accessories and trailers from scratch. He's an amazing dude! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
